Deplorable conditions here at this motel, attempted to get a refund after being here for less than an hour because there was absolutely no way we're spending a night in this and was turned away because the building is just "old". Enjoyed my stay here so much! Perfect location if you're taking sailing or want to be near the water. Price is right, location is central, place is very clean. I wasn't too happy about it brought it to her attention she checked the bed could have been anything but I got bit. Then she had the audacity to tell me keep the room clean wasn't me was the bugs. I want to like this place for the '50s motor court vibe, for the price and for not being a cookie-cutter replica of every chain motel on the planet but it takes some forgiving... --minimal hot water in the shower. It ran for 10 minutes just to get cool. I never saw warm. --no housekeeping. Been here 3 nights, towels are soggy and i haven't seen an employee. --sheets are just laid on the bed, not tucked in. I woke up in a cocoon. --no reading lights by the bed. Thank amazon for Kindle. --insufficient wiring for the charger age. Too few places to plug in. --stupid, confusing, incomprehensible TV cable system. It's so bad it's tempting to believe they did it on purpose. --obviously being run as cheaply as possible, with no amenities at all. Even the bath soap sucks. Having said that, it's clean enough, perfectly located for what I need to do and quieter than I expected given its proximity to the highway. But it takes me back to the days when Motel 6 actually cost 6 dollars. read more

My husband and I had a great stay at Tamalpais Motel. We came from Sacramento and wanted a cheaper place to stay for the weekend to get away from the summer heat. To be honest, before checking in, my major concern was that old cheap motels are often gross dumpy places -- so very glad to report this was not the case here! The owners are a very nice couple who live onsite, and were really friendly when we checked in. They offered housekeeping every day if we wanted it, I was grateful for the option. We rented room 107 with the single queen bed, fridge and microwave, and private bathroom with a stall shower. First thing I noticed once we entered the room was how clean it looked and the faint smell of bleach cleanser, which made me super happy to know it was cleaned well!! And the bedding was super clean, the bed was tidy and made very well. There was a nice flat screen tv on the wall with DirectTV, a table and two chairs, clean fridge and microwave, a fabulous warm wall heater, an oscillating fan, and free samples of soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion in the bathroom. The door was very secure with a deadbolt and chain (surprisingly this isn't common in cheap old motels!) which made me feel so much safer. Also, there were zero creepy people in the parking lot, it was a super quiet place at night and we were super grateful! It was a no muss no fuss place -- no blow dryer nor a fancy lamp with a charging station on the bedside table -- but hey, if that's important to you, go pay a fortune and stay at the Marriott. If you're looking for a clean place at a deal in Marin and don't need all the bells and whistles this is a fabulous, clean, safe place to stay! We spent two nights, enjoyed ourselves, and would certainly stay again! Definitely recommend! read more

This hotel is so close to Sausalito and yet so reasonably priced and well as in a WONDERFUL location! Also it has NO TWO NIGHT MINIMUM as almost every place in Sausalito has. I was in Rm 116 and it had a very quiet alcove with a bed in it - I'd asked for the quietest room available. I slept very well! The hotel is conveniently located off of the highway and there are plenty of inexpensive or higher end restaurants around to suit whatever you're dining needs may be. The hostess was gracious enough to upgrade my room to a suite And it was spacious, comfortable clean with an easy to use heating system as well as plenty of fans for warmer weather. There were plenty of fresh clean towels as well as the other amenities you would expect in a fine establishment. I rate this place a 12 out of 10 and recommend it for singles, couples, families and anyone who wants a nice, comfortable place to stay with reasonable rates. read more

I loved staying here. Very close to Sausalito to explore and the option to jump on the ferry without having to drive into the city. The staff was so lovely and had no problem extending my stay without having booked more than a day. There is a lovely walking path just a few blocks away to Seminary Drive that has amazing views of Richardson Bay. read more

My wife and our oldest son came up to Mill Valley for a funeral this weekend. I checked into this hotel in the late afternoon. We rented this room because of the cost and we were not going to spend much time there. Anyways, the room was a joke. Smallest bathroom I have ever seen. Shower was disgusting, as were the sink and toilet. Frankly I don't know how anyone would give this place more than 1 star. My search for a hotel was specifically for a pet friendly hotel. This one came up second on the list. We have two small under 10 lbs. Dogs. By the way both are in their own cages while in a hotel room. Neither of them bark or bother anyone. Upon our return to the hotel on our first night the manager rushed me when I was crossing the street after walking the dogs and said how could we check in with a dog. I said I googled it and it came up as pet friendly.. I showed him the cages for the dogs and that they are very quite.. He proceeded to scold me and told me that they normally charge $100 per dog for a cleaning fee. But that we could not stay after tonight. However he would refund the second nights stay in full. Well that was a joke, by the time I returned the following afternoon they had never issued a refund and the manager said he was not going to issue the refund in full and he was charging us an additional $40 because there was dog hair in the room. I took so many pictures of the room and the condition we left it in, absolutely a blatant lie. Highly recommend that if you are looking for lodging in Mill Valley keep as far away from this place as possible. Rude staff, small room, filthy bathroom, shower and tub were antiquated with 3 different types of tile. Spiders above the sink, I can go on and on. Again stay clear of this place. read more

This is a simple motel that is conveniently located just North of SF and Sausalito. It's very well maintained inside and out. I would much rather stay here than those higher priced places I've been paying for on my vacation. I saved at least $100 here. The room is quaint and very clean. I also prefer supporting a local business owner rather than a price gouging corporate hotel chain. I would do this every night of my trip if I could. The pride in ownership is apparent. Checked in, and checked out immediately upon seeing the conditions of the room. We booked a two night stay as we have construction going on at home and needed a spot to stay locally close to work. What we saw online via Hotels.com and what we were given room-wise was a complete joke and a definite bait and switch. FILTHY doesn't begin to describe the room we paid $150.00 a night to stay in. We were given a room with no assigned parking and were told we couldn't park more than one car in the "lot", yet there is no legal street parking near the motel after 10 PM. That turned out to be the *least* of the issues we encountered... Walking into the room we discovered fans that had extension cords running everywhere across the room, a broken fire alarm, bedspread had a big white stain in the middle (lovely), there was a massive HOLE in the wall of the "kitchenette" filled with cigarette butts and debris, complete with an exposed gas line. The floors were covered in dirt and scuff marks, the window in our bathroom was broken as was the widow in the kitchenette and neither seemed to lock. The room smelled sour and had a bad chemical air freshener smell that seemed like it was trying to cover over the scent of mildew or rot; the room's linoleum had holes in it and it was lifting in multiple places, there was only one bedside table which was so badly scratched and dinged that it looked like it had been salvaged from the local dump and the electrical wall outlets moved/were so shoddy, that you could see the wiring behind the outlet plate when attempting to plug in something to charge. Smears of brownish mystery substances covered the the bedroom and bathroom wall, and the sticky floors made us fearful to take our shoes off or even place our luggage on the floor of the room. Our hotel room door didn't even close snugly, and we knew we couldn't sleep here. We immediately requested a refund and if we wouldn't have had photos to prove what a derelict, foul place this was, I doubt we would have been given our money back as the front desk flatly refused a refund until we got Hotels.com involved. Had to involve my credit card company as well, and now we have to wait 10 days to make sure the charge for our "stay" is refunded. If this is the last hotel room in the Bay Area available, skip it--you'd be better off sleeping in your car. read more

This bungalow style Motel is a really cute and charming place that looks like it was built in the 30s or 40s but I'm not sure. The original and quite beautiful neon signs on the outside are still there. The room was small, but very clean and very comfortable. Actually, it was meticulously clean.. Clean sheets and blankets, Spotless sink, shower and tub, No dust, no filth, no bad smells. This place was a very welcome relief for my girlfriend and I after having spent an almost sleepless night in San Francisco's notorious "Surf Motel" (Really, please read my review of that place) When I called to make a reservation, the woman on the phone was polite and accommodating. She held a room for us and it was ready and clean when we arrived. The next morning, we awoke after having slept in, refreshed and thankful to have found this place. When we checked out, the woman at the desk, (probably the one I spoke with in the phone) was very polite and helpful.. we were looking for a good place to eat lunch, and she sent us to a good Indian restaurant across the freeway. She also have us directions to the nearest park where we could see the redwoods. It isn't so far from the Golden Gate Bridge so you can stay here and drive into the city. It is also close to the highway that leads to the redwoods so it is a convenient location for vacation travelers. I highly, highly recommend this motel. I wish I could take one star away from the Surf Motel, leaving them with zero, and give this place six. :) Thank You! read more

Okay so look, you get what you pay for. This is essentially a cheap motel in a not cheap area. If you need a place to stay for the night, it is clean enough and friendly enough. Don't stay here otherwise. There is a lot of traffic noise and the rooms leave much to be desired. But, if you need a place to sleep before a big event or just driving through, it will work. I love to travel, and use motels because they are more affordable, I'm not super picky, but I do take safety into consideration. They have camera throughout the parking lot and lots of lighting, which is great. Some light comes through the shutters, but it more of a "night light" effect which is great. The shutters are nice provide privacy, no ones looking in at you. The bed is comfortable, the room is clean, and the bathroom is good. Used this place for an overnight trip, and will be doing this again. Walking distance to fast food and gas stations. read more

Interesting how prior to my stay I saw many positive reviews. Including one specifying how clean it was. After my stay I am now seeing many one star reviews which is far more accurate representation to this abysmal motel. The rate of $150/night was highway robbery. I considered just sleeping in my car. The entire room was absolutely filthy even though the cleaning agents used (who knows where) had a fragrance so noxious I had an allergic reaction to them and woke feeling as if I had a cold. The kitchenette had a hole in the wall that appeared to be made by a fist. There was a gas pipe sticking out of the wall where I assume a stove once was along with another large hole that appeared to be a vent hole or something. Obviously both holes had no attempt to cover or fix. I stuffed them with towels from the bathroom to ease my mind. Even though there is a kitchenette with a door the mini fridge and microwave are located in the main room. The fridge was annoying to have to listen to. The bathroom was obviously not cleaned well as there was layered soap scum on sink. There is nowhere for soap in shower so the nearby window ledge also had layered soap scum and peeling paint to accompany the filthy window area complete with a clogged and ill fitting screen. There was also a hair tie in corner showing that the floor was not swept either. The shower is so tiny that anytime I moved I was caressed by the disgusting shower curtain. Thankfully I had flip flops so I never had to step anywhere in room or shower barefoot. The two chairs were the only place one could place luggage off the floor, save the kitchen counters, and one of them had obviously been used hold something for a craft project as it was dusted with a layer of gold spray paint. The room was so sketchy that I borrowed a sheet and pillow from a friend so I could sleep better and I also wore socks, underwear, and a t shirt to help. I liberated a cockroach from the room to also get a little more peace of mind. Yes, there was even a cockroach in the room. Honestly, it was no surprise. I could go on but at this point why even bother. If you're still reading just move on. I could mention the porno movie I accidentally witnessed (and had to listen to) being filmed next door, or the huge handicap parking space taking up most the parking lot yet no handicap accessibility through whole building, or more holes in walls in room, the filthy carpet, and so forth. But like I said, just move on. Do yourself a favor and do not book a stay here. I wish there was a rating system like in restaurants so you could quickly see the truth. This place would definitely earn a C, D, or even F rating. read more

We find this place, for a good price in SF Area just half an hour north on weekend at the very last minute using an iPhone app called "On Our Way". Our final destination was San Francisco, all the hotels we called were sold out, and we wanted to stay somewhere close to SF but along the route. We call and find this place, check-in experience was ok, just like a transaction neither good nor bad. We get into the room, and the room was clean, nice fresh paint, a tiny TV that is wall mounted and another device hung with zip ties. Bath room was very clean with Marble flooring, and marble walls in the shower. My friend was very happy with the place. I just feel and found a lot of hack jobs. But then again, not everybody thinks like an engineer, if things work and looks clean and nice, they will be happy. read more

My room doesn't remotely mirror the bad reviews. The room is very clean and appears to be recently updated. Very comfortable bed. Microwave and refrigerator. A challenge for some would be that the closet is removed and becomes a nook for a large TV and two chairs. (Love it: creates much more space.) Excellent restaurants within a minute plus a 7-11. A few minute drive to the GG Bridge. BUT ASK: Is your room a remodeled room or an old room. read more

Had to make a quick reservation and this place was nearby. The front desk were very kind, and let me have a room with two beds for the price of one since I was alone. The room was very nice, clean, and each bed is separated. The only downside is that it is right next to the highway so it can get noisy when you are trying to get some sleep. The only reason I did not leave a mediately when I saw the place was that I had pre-booked and the cancellation fee was higher than I was willing to sacrifice. The place is mostly lived in by migrant families so the parking lot was full even though we were supposed to have free parking. The picture does not show on the website that it is directly next to a 7-Eleven a freeway on ramp a very large intersection and Highway 101 on the east side of the freeway not on any of the nice side of Millvalley. It was a $12 Uber ride to get to Sweetwater music hall that was only 2 1/2 miles away but to get there you have to get over the freeway which is a pain in the butt. The room was $138 and although it was Marin County I would never pay $138 for a room like this except under extreme pressure or need. I was unable to drive this night that I stayed so I was stuck if I had any idea how gross the hotel actually was going to be I would've made plans in any other way. I give them one extra starbecause they did provide us with some extra pillows and check out and check in were very quick. Their ad on booking.com did not say they had air-conditioning and if I would have read that I would've notreserved a room so that was on me. But not having an air conditioner in a room into place just like that made it gross and hot and muggy. If you open the window the freeway noise was deafening and you had multiple people looking directly into your windows either bathroom or front window it made it awkward and uncomfortable as a guest in a hotel as I'm sure I made the migrant families feel uncomfortable staying right in between them all as a stranger. I was told by one of them that the hotel except cash and doesn't take ID if you pay extra so if that's your bag this is your place read more

They get one star for being there. I would consider literally any other place to stay if I had to stay up here again. Seriously. It wasn't the pitter patter of rats scurrying behind the walls in the middle of the night. It was not the vaguely worn and sticky carpet or non-functioning fan, tv, wall heater or the collection of dead bugs in the bathroom light fixture. It could have been the constant dripping faucet but compared to the rat feet scrapping in the wall behind or above your head, the dripping was minor. So yeah thanks for a bed. No complaints on this cute little motel. We called ahead to let them know we'd be arriving around 1am. When we arrived they checked us in and we're very nice. Don't come here if you're expecting a high end hotel with room service and a spa. It's a motel people! The room was very clean. The bed had a bunch of comfy pillows making it look so comfy. Now the test, pulling back the covers and getting in...ahhhh so nice! I've been in motels where I've slept in my clothes due to the bed being gross, not this place. Thick, crisp white linens. We slept like babies in our king size bed. Is the hotel old? Yeah, but not run down by any means. We recommend this motel for a comfortable, safe and clean place to rest your head. It's by the highway but closing the windows makes it just fine. We'll be back if we come through again! BTW, parking is easy and FREE!! read more

Very easy to get to from the city. Clean and comfortable enough. Manager is strict about number of guests (we had 3) in a two bed suite-ish room. In the pictures it looks like the second bed is in a little cove but actually it's shut off by a door. The TV is old but has dish, the highway is a little loud.. We had ear plugs so it was okay. Coffee and danish's in the morning and overall nice guests staying around us. No one partying or being obnoxious.. Bathroom has two entrances to each room. I really like this little motel even though it's a little bates-y lol. Will stay again. read more

It is a very simple clean Motel. Nothing fancy, but well taken care of. Everything worked, the staff was pleasant. We just stayed overnight, going from a SF concert on a Saturday night to catch a show Sunday at Sweetwater Music hall. Altho the motel is next to 101, it was quiet and was a nice night of sleep. I would book again if we are staying up there. read more
