The front desk staff speaks excellent English. The rooms are nice, the bed comfortable, plenty of English channels on the TV and free wifi. Also, the onsite restaurant is very good and when it's raining that's a big plus. Finally, they were very accommodating to those us who arrive on a motorcycle. It was raining so they let me park under the portico in front and let me leave the bike there so they could watch it during my stay. You can see that I can't say enough good things about the hotel and staff and it's well deserved.

Previously I had stayed here in January 2014 and most recently in August. What's great about the hotel: - Very large spacious and lots of spaces to lounge around - Bar and restaurant available in the hotel - great location right across the street from the Rimouski boardwalk with great walking/running/bike trails. - pool, hot tub, - ample parking both front and back - lots of meeting room space for functions. What's so so: -decor is dated and a tad old in lobby and hotel rooms - feels like the hotel could use a good refresh into the year 2000 to modernize - WIFI is spotty at times. Put a code on it to prevent freeloaders moochers off the WIFI. What is on the poor side: - when you open the bathroom door it hits the toilet - bathrooms are small Overall it's not a bad experience but definitely could be better.

Everything in the room seemed to have been updated a bit. However this hotel is nothing short of creepy. You can get in the front door without a key up until 9 PM and there is no one who can see you from the front desk which is around the corner. The lobby is small, dark and there are people sort of hanging around at the door who could easily follow someone in the front door and up the elevator. The hallways are bleak. They are darkly lit and made of concrete block. The exterior of the hotel looks like a warehouse. The parking lot is gravel and we had to leave in the rain which was really a mess. After nine there's no one in the hotel although they give you a number to call if you have problems. There is a passcode to get in the door which I'm going to bet they never change. I would definitely not stay here as a single woman. The area around the hotel is OK but not great and this just seems like a very sketchy hotel. This might be OK if you were on a business trip or maybe out with the boys doing a little hunting, but I wouldn't come here with my family and I'm sorry I came here with my wife.

Normally it wouldn't be an issue, but multiple instances came up where our children were just running through the halls and screaming and there was absolutely no parenting. If you value your sleep, and if you value your money, avoid this place and go somewhere maybe cheaper but a bit better quality. Staff also made a mistake and opened my room at about 8:30 in the morning while I was in the bathroom. I had to get up abruptly and ask them to close the door. Apparently they didn't check whether or not I was staying a couple of nights or one night. As I was heading out, they didn't even ask if my stay was good because obviously it wasn't and I think they were a little bit embarrassed. The restaurant is all right, but the quality of the food is average. I ordered the lamb for about $50 which in Montreal would be served cut properly so that you can actually eat the meat, but I literally had to carve it out myself but at least it was frenched. Drinks are light on alcohol and be warned that the bar as well as the restaurant are filled with locals and all types of people. If you're from a large city where different types of people go to different types of restaurants, you're out of luck. Shout out to B&B that I should've stayed at which is just across the street a little south. I encourage you to go there and spend your money there instead.

The Riotel added to my impression that Matane is a cool place! The hotel is under construction now and it appears it has been going through a renovation of sorts. The hotel rooms feel nice and recently renovated with quite comfortable beds. We ate in the restaurant which was really good and they have a really nice lounge and what looks to be a nice deck (for summer) all looks out onto the Ocean/St Lawrence. I'm definitely putting this on my hotel list to come back to as it served it's purpose and was a nice pleasant surprise!
