We popped in for a quick afternoon coffee one weekend and there was a local singer/songwriter providing free entertainment for diners. The building is a beautiful heritage cottage that has been tastefully renovated inside. There is a substantial garden out the back for outdoor dining. We had one soy cappucino and a doppio (double piccolo latte) and they were fine, a bit milky but filled a need. The folk in the annexed dining room sounded like they were having a great time. The staff are attentive and they made insanely good coffees (in addicted to their chai lattes). The menu has something for most tastes- big platters featuring locally sourced meats and cheeses, focaccias, salads and cakes to name a few. Prices are pretty standard, some may think the platters a bit overpriced but they are actually very filling. These guys are very passionate about supporting businesses on the Fleurieu Peninsula and in SA. So many of my favourite producers feature on the menu- say cheese, Four winds chocolate, swell beer, dawn patrol coffee roasters, spice girlz and fine and dandy Teahouse. It's the perfect place to kick back with a coffee, have a long lunch or a sneaky wine (because it's attached to Wirra Wirra, one of the best wineries going around). No charge for soy milk. What? And they don't use So Good. They use Silk, the choice of Bar 9, Pollen, et al. I ordered the Eggs Benny. Nicely poached eggs, sautéed spinach, and ham, on sourdough. The hollandaise didn't taste house made but was zesty enough. Often when travelling to regional places you end up sampling food that tries to emulate that of the city, without quite getting there. The menu boasted a large breakfast menu on the front page with things like bacon and egg dishes, signature Eggs Benedict "Benny" and Eggs Florentine "Florry" dishes, vegetarian breakfasts, croissants and a large variety. My friend ordered a basic breakfast plate with bacon, eggs, mushrooms, avocado, spinach and tomato. The one think I noticed was that the spinach wasn't sautéed, it was almost more garnish style. Never mind. What caught my attention more was the burger menu which was another page devoted to. I should have make some notes because I can't really remember- but I'm sure I saw a vegetarian patty burger, Chicken schnitzel burger- which is what I settled with. It was delicious! Absolutely amazing. Tasted very fresh with a decent amount of fresh leafy lettuce and tomato. The schnitzel with thick, juicy and tasty, and fit the burger perfectly. I ordered a side of chips which are an optional extra for those after something more with their meal. I thoroughly enjoyed this meal and was well and truly filled up after consuming every crumb. One small thing that stayed in my mind was the fact that the waitress asked if I'd like any sauce with my dish, and then in-fact brought out a sauce bottle for the table at no extra charge. I'm not a real saucy person, but for those who'd love extra sauce with their meal this is a great bonus! And I know a few who do every time. I did really like this place and enjoyed their patronage throughly. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. When we first arrived there was one free table which needed clearing, which the staff tended to straight away, as well as wiping it over. The atmosphere was cosy and relaxing, with a great view of the park area and beaches nearby. Next time I'm down this way I'll definitely be coming back here for a burger or 2 with a group of friends.

Dad had a coffee and a slice of carrot cake, while mum and I chose to have something more substantial. (Dessert is substantial right?) Mum ordered the three cheese souffle which was served with what I can only describe as a beetroot terrine. The souffle was yum and now I'm tempted to try and make it at home, as well as the beetroot terrine. Layers of beetroot and beetroot jelly. I ordered the shiraz poached pear served with vanilla ice cream. This dish was also yum but seeing as the menu seemed to be favouring local produce I was expecting more. I felt that the dish was served with too much of the poaching liquid I would have liked it to be strained as biting into a bay leaf wasn't all the appetising. That said the pear was yummy and a I enjoyed the meal. I just would have liked the pear to have been cored so I didn't have to eat around the pips and I would have prefered home made ice cream. Some of the best milk in the area could really be utilised here. Would I come back? Absolutely! Would I expect less than the menu seems to promote? Yes, and it will be enjoyable.
