Once you've been in here, seen the inventory, and met the team and owner, you won't be able to walk by without going in! There isn't likely anything you'd want in your own kitchen, or to gift someone, that Mothers Cupboard doesn't have. Among my favorites are the array of spice packets. This place is amaaaazing! First of all, it smells absolutely incredible like an exotic spice market in India. The shop owner is a doll and so much fun to chat with. She's so knowledgeable on all the different types of teas and spices. Her selection of spices, herbs, mushrooms, teas, and kitchen items is huge and the prices are even better. I love tea but can't have any caffeine so I was stoked to find a huge variety of a couple dozen different types of decaf and herbal teas. Furthermore, I have a condition called POTS which requires eating copious amounts of salt every day to maintain my blood pressure. That gets pretty boring after a while. Well, no more! I purchased several different salt blends and immediately tried them on different snacks and dishes at home. So much fun! I even found a decaf mango green tea that tastes just like my favorite decaf tropical green tea that had been discontinued a few years back. It's delicious! Can't wait to return for more fun culinary treats! read more

What a great little shop! If you love cooking and/or eating, this is a terrific place to go. They have spices, but SO much more, a lot of things so handy you don't know how you managed without it - one of my items was a cute ceramic covered butter dish that holds only 1/2 a stick - perfect for my household of 2 and limited space. I found the woman running the place today to be very helpful. We discovered this shop by accident and already have plans to take others there next time I'm in town. I felt there was a need to get back to basics in a chemically enhanced society. Real taste, real food, and the social interaction that follows families cooking together is and important aspect of everyday living..Our blends are proprietary to our shoppe, with no added chemicals or flowing agents. The one-on-one recipe advice and kitchen tips are priceless! Using this philosophy, Mothers Cupboard was born! Through steady growth and the greatest customers in the universe, we are here to stay. I am dedicated to serving our community with knowledge based principles that will will make cooking as easy as getting out of bed in the morning.

Meet the Business Owner: Suzanne A.

Originally from Milwaukee Wisconsin, I worked for a local factory full time when the kids were growing up. My passion for cooking was a sideline event, doing parties and catering for small events. It was always my dream to open a catering company, so when my husband, Kenny, retired in 2008, we moved to Florida, and my dream became a reality. Clients were always asking me for the recipe, or why their dish didn't taste like mine, etc; so from that, we created cooking classes and sold spices and seasoning blends at a flea market and farmers markets. Three years later, we out grew our mobile kitchen and opened a storefront in Venice Florida in order to accommodate the growing need for education and the demand for small samplets of spices. Suzanne and Kenny have a blended family of 6 children, 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, and reside in Venice , Florida

The sales rep did open the box to check the product for any defects and did find a few but stated they will remove by washing them with a little soap. After taking the product out of the product and following her advice I noticed not only did the spots not come off I found scratches on the interior of the pan as well. At this point I decided to return the item and purchase the updated version of the pan from another retailer since they did not carry the Signature stainless steel collection. The woman who handled the return was not apologetic and in fact made comments suggesting it wouldn't interfere with the functionality of the pan. Considering their self proclaimed propaganda, they are one of the finest so why should I accept this especially considering the price you pay? If this is what occurs during the manufacturing process I can only imagine how the pan will behave once I begin to cook with it. If the price reflected the damage than maybe that would be acceptable but it didn't. I purchased new in the box and expected the condition to be as described. May not have written this review if it wasn't for how the return was handled. I was considering returning to the store the following week because there were a few other items that caught my eye but I will now shop at the Orlando retailer or possibly online but I prefer to support local brick and mortar stores whenever possible so Orlando traffic here I come!

What cannot be overlooked... Black Gold restricts use of their seating and tables to 30 minutes. At a coffee shop!! In an historic building owned by the taxpayers!! They DON'T WANT people to hangout and meet up. There are signs on every table declaring the time limit. The restriction is in place even when no one is waiting to sit. It's ridiculous - major negative stars for not welcoming folks who want to hangout to read and work and people-watch; for folks who want to gather in a non-alcoholic environment; for wasting valuable community-owned (albeit privately leased) space.
