Mothfire is a great spot to grab a drink and hang out with friends in Ann Arbor! We stopped in with some friends on a recent summer Friday and Mothfire definitely met our expectations -- great ambiance and you can tell people really enjoy being here! The service is great, and there's a ton of seating. I will say that since so many people enjoy it, I could see it being harder to find a table during peak hours, but it didn't take us much time even at 8pm on a Friday. The only real downside is that it can get a bit loud when it's packed, but I think it's worth that trade off. Parking is easy and there's extra parking around the back of the building as well. The beer menu is pretty straightforward and offers a good selection (especially IPAs), along with good prices. Overall, I'd definitely recommend checking out Mothfire! read more

Big fan of Mothfire! I particularly love their Mists, which is what they name their sours. The dragon mist, guava mist, and especially the Osborn mist (aged in Mammoth gin barrels, then blended it with jalapeño, lime, ginger, and pineapple). The vibe of the place is also awesome - especially during the summer with all the picnic tables out (doggo friendly too). While they have a couple salads from El Harissa Market, the food trucks always hit. I've had Blue Dog and Carozzo pizza there. I honestly need to come here more. The staff is always super friendly, they have great brews AND they do flights (my favorite). I did end up meeting one of the co-owners and main brewers at a Mothfire x Sava's beer pairing dinner event which was pretty epic! Mothfire is a gem here! read more

It has been a few years since I visited Mothfire and I was really impressed with their taproom. They had a great beer selection with friendly bartenders. I didnt get food there but was tempted by the food truck. They also had a very large patio. Plenty of parking spots close to the brewery as well. read more

Came here after going to Costco across the street and saw they were in the Hop Passport. The Hop Passport is an app or printed book you can buy that get you 2 for 1 beers from local breweries, but not all. I highly recommend the app version because it stays current as far as added breweries, and if you don't have the printed version with you. Anyways, the beers I tried were excellent. I had the Batch M hazy and it was sooooo good. Very light and creamy, if that is such a thing for an IPA. I also tried the Win Willow which was good for an American wheat, but it was my Hefeweizen. Atmosphere was cool, typical Ann Arbit. You have hippies and modern day preppies, and your U of M people, fans, and doctors. Looks light a repurposed light industrial building, and it works. Service is simple, order at the bar and take your drink to a table. They had 2 food trucks that you can order from your QR code at your table. If you like microbrews give them a try. read more

Everytime I drive by, it looks so busy! I came here on a Saturday afternoon. We got a flight and a hard seltzer. My dad enjoyed all the beers he got in his flight. I enjoyed the Mountain Berry Fizz hard seltzer I got! People brought card games to play. There are tables inside, in a sunroom, and outside in the grass. I would definitely come back! read more

My friends and I went to Mothfire on 2/1/26 around 1:30pm. It was my first time there. Previously, I had met one of the owners who is one of the most down to earth guys out there!! There was a small amount of people in there at the time and that number grew! The staff there is super cordial and willing to guide you through the drink options. I had the bourbon barreled stout which was yummie! One of my buddy's ordered a pizza from one of the food trucks parked in the lot. The pizza was as spot on!! The bartenders are friendly and quick, and you can always find room to squeeze in even when it's really busy on the patio. The ambience is clean and friendly. Love the vibe here. If it's busy it can be tricky to find a table but you just roll with it. They have awesome imaginative beers and a nice lil N/A drink menu. The two trucks I've tried, Carozza Pizza and Blue Dog, offer a nice mix of options. The pizzas take a while but it's incredible what the produce out of a little truck. The White Potato and Bacon pizza is legit one of the best pizzas I've ever had. They add honey or something into the mix and it just makes magic. Blue Dog's tots absolutely slap. I enjoyed the KBBQ sausage I had, but it didn't blow me away. I think the dogs need more toppings to be worth the price, either more quantity for the two you choose, or you should be able to choose a third. Intend to explore the dog menu more in the future. Nice place with a few tables inside and several outside. They had an awesome jazz trio playing on the patio when we were there. They were really, really good. My friends took me to this cool, hip place for locally brewed beers and wood fired pizza. Great space, very modern and industrial aesthetic with ample outdoor seating and an awning to shield from the sun. The crew loved the steeps and sour ales. I opted for the watermelon mock tail, several, in fact. For pizza we had: meatball, green curry, capicola and margherita. They were all excellent, with very thin crust and quality toppings. If you have a large appetite like me, you should split a second pizza with a buddy. The crew is already planning our next tasting here. The sour beer was quite delicious. But if you don't like sours or IPAs, then probably best to head elsewhere. Also, if you don't like being comfortable, this is the place for you. The bar is the most uncomfortable I've ever sat at - there is no lip, so you have to turn sideways to get at your drink/food. There isn't much seating inside, so best to go there on a nice day and sit outside. Also, the decor is very unwelcoming and cold. They do have a food truck, and it was just okay. The risotto was dry; the pizza more tasty. But I don't like eating out of tinfoil and using plastic utensils. I would certainly return on a nice day, but otherwise, it isn't a top choice. It's so great to have a brewery around this side of Ann Arbor! I live close by so was excited to check them out. Have been back multiple times. Good craft beer, always something new rolling out, and really good food. They have a rotating cast of food trucks and pop ups, with primarily Carozza Pizza and Tacos El Mariachi Loco as consistent ones. The pizza is seriously fantastic. I also really enjoyed when they brought Slow's BBQ in as a pop up. Beer is mostly IPAs, but they also have a handful of others (fruited sours, lights, and amber/darker options this time of year), plus cocktails. They do flights too - 4 5oz pours. Beware - ABVs are generally strong! They have N/A options and mocktails too. Easy parking with plenty of spots. Friendly bartenders. Indoor/outdoor spaces. It's not huge but I haven't had an issue getting a seat/table in the handful of times I've been. Heat lamps are out now as it's gotten colder, not sure if the outdoor space will be fully open through the winter or not. There's a fridge to purchase beer to go as well. read more

Fantastic time at Mothfire! This is our first time having their brews. I was not aware that they already had a following but seemed to move to a new location with a gorgeous inside and outside tasting room. I believe it just opened less than a month ago in July but it was quite busy on a random August afternoon. While they serve mostly alcoholic beverages, it brought out a lot of families and people with pets. They have a pizza bus (food truck) with a wood fire oven and mocktails for those who are not drinking the beer. The people working here were very nice and knowledgeable. They also mixed a good cocktail. We got the fruit sour, a dry dark beer, and a Paloma with the seltzer. Both beers were very good but the Paloma was excellent. We sat outdoors on the patio, such a beautiful day. This was such an ideal spot to hang with friends. I would definitely visit again and get some flights but for sure try more cocktails. Perhaps we will try their pizza too some time. read more

We have been here several times and love to see how the place has evolved into a great indoor outdoor brewery! The staff was great and we love the location. The food truck is a great plus to stay longer and enjoy some drinks with friends. We enjoy that it is not loud and can have conversations with friends and family. I enjoyed using the app to order from the food truck and they bring it right to your table so no waiting in line. The fire stone pizza was awesome and the crust is amazing must try the white pizza and pepperoni. The pepperoni is loaded on so each bite is loaded with pepperoni which is amazing! I never share my pizza. Trust me and get your own! Only con: I'm not a fan of having dogs on leash inside the dining/drink area. The place becomes very crowded and end up on top of each other. Mothfire Brewing proved to be the perfect setting to catch up with friends recently. It had been a while since we had all gotten together, and one of the group suggested Mothfire. I was intrigued - I had seen the place go up but had not yet been. As I walked up, a food truck was outside, baking up delicious-smelling pizzas. I made a mental note to skip dinner the next time I came so I could take advantage of whatever food truck was there. I ordered a lavender lemonade, and it came in a simple glass with an aluminum straw - love the reusable component! As we chatted, a friendly employee offered to let us move to a larger table to accommodate our group. She chatted for a bit with us, making us feel all the more welcome. I loved the laid back vibe of this place and the friendly staff. Not to mention the food truck outside! I'll be back and bring some new people next time so they can see what all of the fuss is about. read more

If you venture to Mothfire, do so on a nice day and with no plans to eat food while there. We made the mistake of going on a cold, rainy night. The place was packed, because Ann Arbor is in desperate need of more spaces like this. Our only option was to settle into their outdoor seating. They've tried to make it weather resistant, but overall sitting in the cold on the side of a busy ride just wasn't a vibe. The beer was fine - I'd consider coming back for a beer if the weather was nice. But the pizza menu was shockingly expensive. $13 for what is essentially a cracker with sauce on it was so disappointing. I wasn't a fan of the crust texture - but mostly we found the price absurd. Good wood fired pizza in the States is just hard to find. Eating out is a luxury these days, so I'm not sure we can justify coming back for a full dining experience. TLDR: 3.5/5 for beer. 2/5 for food. read more

Finally tried Mothfire and loved it! Love the modern space and setup they have with indoor/ourdoor "dining". They patio have picnic tables and it's covered so if it's raining you can still enjoy. We were able to bring our dog (dogs welcome on a leash on the patio!). We enjoyed the pizza from the pizza truck and two sour beers. The staff was super nice and friendly to both us and our dog. A no-frills brewpub. Just a bar, some tables and chairs, and all the brewing vats, tuns, and lines arrayed around you as you sip (albeit tastefully concealed behind frosted screens). And that's fine. Lots of great breweries started that way and I wish more of them stayed like that. We got a 4-brew tasting flight to start. All were winners. Mothfire's menu is heavy on hazy IPAs, and we got two in our flight, a red hazy and a double. Both were good, with the double being remarkably light. But the stars were the stout and the alt. The stout had a very nice hop bite and just a hint of sweetness. The alt was rich, and smooth without being bland. We got a follow up pint of it. If you get hungry while at Mothfire there are usually food trucks on site--it was a Mexican operation while we were there, though we didn't partake. But we will definitely return for a dinner date. read more

We stopped by Mothfire while visiting A2 on the recommendation of a friend (and it was within walking distance of our hotel!)! The brewery itself does not serve food inside, but often has a food truck (rotating options) parked on the lot. While we were there, Carrozza Woodfire Pizza was available. It's a cute pizza bus with amazing pizza, served Wed-Sun. We tried their Carrozza Bianco and Marinara and both were delicious. Lots of fresh, melted cheese on a light crust. The garlic cream and tomato sauces were gooey, flavorful, and a perfect pairing with a woodfired crust. Food was ordered online and delivered to the tables fresh from the oven. The brewery offers a nice selection of IPA, Light, Dark, and Fruited Sour options. The servers at the bar were very helpful and offered several samples to get us started. My husband ultimately chose their Glow IPA and said it was a knockout. They also offer hard seltzer cocktails and mocktails- their lavender lemonade is addictive! The entire front of the restaurant opens up into patio seating, but there is a section that's more closed off if you prefer to sit inside. It was a gorgeous night while we were there, so everything was open and the tables were full of people enjoying the weather. Gorgeous venue in a great location. read more

Our friends recommended this spot to us because we are hazy IPA lovers.... INCREDIBLE RECOMMENDATION! There hazy collection is great and did not disappoint. Miles was taking care of us and gave us some insight on the history of the business and provided some great personal recommendations. We left with 3 - 4 packs and look forward to our next visit. We came on a Sunday and the vibe was not something I would write home about. Their stainless steel esthetic is BEAUTIFUL and they kept it looking clean and polished which I respect! This was a stop on a brewery crawl. One thing we loved was the atmosphere. They have both indoor and outdoor (with heaters) seating. What we liked most is that there weren't a bunch of tv's blaring or super loud music. We were there with friends and really wanted to be able to chat and catch up and Mothfire was the perfect vibe for that. We also liked they have hard seltzer in addition to beer since some in our group aren't beer fans. Both their beer and seltzer were very good. We were a bit concerned about the long line when we arrived but it went super quick, so don't be deterred. They also have food trucks if you want some grub. read more

They tried to cover up the lack of flavor, tofu, and veggies with too much crushed red pepper and bland white rice. Didn't work. Could barely taste any basil. Happened to be in Ann Arbor and this was really close to the event we went to. This place goes heavy on the IPAs which I hate, but they did have a killer sour. The patio is nice but it was 90 degrees (pass) so we sat inside. Not sure what they're going for, looks like a hotel indoors. Staff are friendly. Like most places around here, people turn it into Chuck E. Cheese and insist on bringing their 7 kids and taking up all of the space. read more

This was our second time visiting and we came for their one year anniversary celebration (aka REVOLVE). We had also come once in the past and had a great experience then too, hence our return. Their drinks are great. As a predominantly seltzer/cocktail drinker, I am a huge fan of their hard seltzer cocktails (and they have NA mocktails as well). They have very limited snacks/food items on their menu but always have a food truck on site (usually artisan pizzas or Mexican). They have plenty of bartenders so ordering at the bar is usually quick and easy. There is indoor and outdoor seating and while it's been busy both times we've come, we have never had trouble finding an open table or sharing a partially open table with another small group. Their outdoor area is pet friendly and there's often a few dogs with their owners. The ambiance is open, busy, and social. For their anniversary celebration there was also a DJ, extra tables, cornhole bags, and some additional food truck vendors. Overall it was another great experience and we look forward to returning soon. read more

One of the big questions I had before moving to Michigan was, "What are some of the region's specialty foods?" My local Ann Arbor expert had to think about the question for a minute or two, because nothing was coming immediately to mind. After a bit more contemplation, he shared his answer: Beer. I've been having fun trying all the local and regional breweries. But recently I discovered there's a new one that opened up right in my neighborhood during the middle of this pandemic. Hellooooo Mothfire! Most people don't share my thoughts on beer. But I get particular pleasure from beers that celebrate a taste of place. And that means using not just locally grown hops, but also locally produced malts. Amazingly, Mothfire is doing just that, and they are just down the street, a stone's throw away from RoosRoast. It's hard to drink more local than the brewery that's walking distance from home. They are also cooking up a bunch of experimental beers. Today, in fact, brings a particularly enticing porter at 5pm when Mothfire opens to sell cans from the open doorway in the brewery's parking lot. The place itself is tucked away off industrial in a building that's somewhere in between a strip mall and an office park. But I don't hold that against them. Nor do I care about the limited hours. Businesses these days have to be very creative in order to survive the pandemic. Most of the beers are the cloudy hazy sort that people are still gobbling up these days. I've done the whole Tree House thing a bunch, so I get what they are going for. But personally I've begun to long for crisper cleaner lagers, and flavors beyond juicy tropical fruit. I am cautiously optimistic that as the brewery grows and as consumer tastes change, their beers will become more diverse in taste and body. What I do particularly enjoy about these fruit bombs, is that the team at Mothfire doesn't shy away from the balancing bitterness hops can also bring to the party. This is a brewery in its infancy, and I'm thrilled to keep buying all of the beers they keep making. Really, right now, in my book it's a four star brewery. But I expect Mothfire to gain its fifth star over time. And, since it's my local, I'm giving them a bonus star. read more

After going out to Ann Arbor for the art fair and having a quick bite to eat, we were on a mission to find and sample a local brewery. Mothfire caught my immediate attention. When I reviewing their beers online they had a wide selection of IPA's, sours, lagers, and stouts. I lean heavy towards sours and IPA's. Mothfire is in a converted industrial strip mall near the back. The brewery is quaint and cozy with bourbon barrel and seats up front and small tables and chairs throughout. We grabbed a spot outside around bourbon barrel. It was than fitting that our first beer was the newly released Ruby Mist that was barrel aged finished. Immediately with the first sip, you can taste the quality of the beer. It was refreshing, tangy, rich in the strawberry rhubarb flavor, and had that deep round finish that only a bourbon barrel can produce. We got talking to one of the owners and after finding out we enjoyed the Ruby mist, suggested and brought over a sample of the Jamming mist. At first glance, a Berliner Weiss with 3.5% appears like it'll be too light for my taste. I was pleasantly surprised. Again, it delivered a light sour note followed by a note I identified as blackberries. This was a really satisfying beer on a late summer evening. We stocked up on the Ruby Mist and purchased a Pilot IPA that was highly recommended based on our tastes. Come check out this spot! It won't be long before word gets out how good their beer is. read more

I came here for the beer and the beer is very good. The atmosphere was a bit cold and whoever designed the bar has clearly never tried to sit there- no place for your knees - very uncomfortable. The beertenders were somewhat disengaged, but overall okay. Diverse customer base including several families with young kids (on a Sunday afternoon). Parking is one long line of spaces, so you could be a long way from the door on a bad weather day. All the beers were also available in cans to go - singles or 4-packs. read more
