I saw Stoney Lake Brewing on Untappd and decided to stop in and check them out. They are located in a strip mall with a very large lot so parking is not an issue. There was plenty of seating inside and I ended up sitting at the bar. Great menu and the beers were pretty good. It seems like a great neighborhood bar. Stony Lake Brewing is a sleepy little spot with top notch Brews and a great vibe. We tried several different beers and were pleasantly surprised by all of them. Lighted by Edison bulbs, stony lake brewing feels like a cozy cabin on the lake. Large TV on the wall playing local sports, super clean private bathrooms, and plenty of space to spread out. A little off the beaten path but, completely worth the stop. Really hope they have merch for our next visit!! read more

Made our way out here on a foggy night to see what the new kid on the Washtenaw County beer block had to offer. Found a spare but pleasant space in a strip mall with a wide range of brews. To explore it, we got a four beer sample flight--a french style pale ale, a brown ale, the IPA, and a porter. None were exactly stunning but most were decent. Our favorites were the french pale and the brown, and we got pints of these to go with our take-in meal. They both had good body; my pale was mildy bitter with just a touch of sourness, the brown my wife got very smooth and rich with a nice little spark of hops. The porter was also very good, sweeter than most. As IPAs go, Stony Lake's is a bit of a wallflower. Not really enough hoppiness or fruit/floral notes to give it some personality. Their site described some other very interesting beers that were not on tap but due to appear soon and probably we will come back for those. Food is whatever you want to bring or have delivered--always an arrangement I appreciate in a brewpub. While I wouldn't say Stony Lake is the best in the business locally, my view on breweries is that you can never have too many in your neighborhood (and I'm construing my neighborhood very broadly here, being a half hour away), so I'm glad they're around. read more

Super little brewery. Great people behind the bar and a super brewer. Lots of great beer here. God's Wrath is a wonderful Imperial IPA, just like the Russian Imperial Stout is awesome. Pros: live music, owners are very nice Cons: there was some pretty meh beer So I had a blast listening to the music here. Its not a very big spot but it was great to see a really talented artist I follow. Stony lake gets some good artists to flow through their brewery. For this alone Id give them 4 stars. Ill definitely be back to watch live music in such an intimate setting. The cons for me were some of the beers. Most were lackluster. there was an ipa that I didnt even bother finishing. My favorite beer was the russian imperial stout. The ciders were pretty tasty though and they had a great cyser. Its a cool small town spot but definitely not a place that will be pumping out any crazy innovative beers or gathering lots of hype. In closing, I will definitely be back for the music. The owners are also so nice that I'd probably continue to give them my patronage if Im in the area. I wish them the best of luck and look forward to trying some more brews in the future. read more

Very nice small local brewery. The hoppy God's Wrath is my favorite, but I've never had a bad beer. The happy hour is the best deal!! Sipping on a Moses Staff (American IPA 8.2%) and it is delicious. The Dirty Deacon is another solid Scottish ale that you should try. The apple mead at 11% is wonderful. No food, cajun place right up the hill too. If it is on, The Big French Girl (Strong Saison), is well worth yhe trouble-so good! read more

We've been to this place on 3 separate occasions. The first experience was horrid. We think there was something funky in their lines. The beers tasted so bad that I couldn't even finish any of my samples. The second experience the beer definitely was better than the first time but still slightly below mediocre. Quite disappointing for a place with such high ratings? We hoped that it was just the beers they chose to brew that time around which is why we went the third and final time. Sadly the beers were mediocre and nothing special. It's definitely not something we would ever buy a growler for or even a flight. The staff is always incredibly friendly and the ambiance is nice. We also were going to go on a Friday and they were charging a $10 cover. We promptly turned around a left... live music or not your beer better on point if you're going to charge a cover like that. read more

RUDE. OBSTINATE. My wife, my toddler, and I recently moved to Saline from Ann Arbor and have been looking for a local place to enjoy, and decided to give Stony Lake a try. First off, there was a mix up with our beer order, which I can take responsibility for. I grabbed my wife's beer on accident. However, that beer, her beer (the session ipa) was off. We both agreed there was something definitely wrong with it. So, when I went to get a different one, they actually poured the same beer (gross session IPA), on accident. So, two poured (gross) beers went to waste. We figured it out though, got the 11th hour IPA, and it was good. Until I got my bill and they charged for the 2 returned beers. After bringing this up to the brew master, not only did he REFUSE to test his own beer, but he made it seem like we just didn't' like it. After I tried to explain something was off, he pulled a 10 dollar bill out of his wallet and says "I Get it, times are tough" and tosses it on the bar YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING. So I obviously just walked out after that. Feeling majorly insulted, I needed to call this guy and explain what he did was wrong. At which point he tells me they were pushing the last half of a 2 month old keg, ADMITTING WHY THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG, but still he can't get over his ego and just say sorry for being an ass. I could care less about the 10 bucks he tried to give me (which didn't actually refund the amount we paid for those beers btw), I just wanted a sincere apology and an acknowledgment of the issue we brought up. But nope, "We don't give away free beers" is what he says. So, my wife hops on the phone with the guy and explained to him that he just lost weekly customers going forward, he expresses a little remorse, expresses how they are going through tough times, but then ends the call with "We do things differently in Saline" and then laughs at her. GET REAL. This isn't about a refund, it's about being a respectable business owner. Check your product if somebody points out an issue. Don't gaslight your customers. And don't pull the whole "We do things differently" card. I'm honestly still wrapping my head around this experience. This was not just a bad look for his business, but a bad look for Saline in general. The other beer was actually pretty good, but whatever, we won't be drinking it. Good luck with this place. You reap what you sow. read more

Nice, clean tap room and a variety of good quality beer. Can't get much better than that. We visited on a Friday night and were surprised it was pretty quiet here. Perhaps we were just ahead of the crowd? In any case, we received great service and enjoyed some flights. I really enjoyed the Break Your Fast Stout. Chocolate and coffee flavor in my beer is a personal favorite, but they have a very good variety of beers including some hard ciders, wines and soda. No food here, but you can bring food in yourself. Definitely take the time to talk to them! -You can bring food! -Plenty of parking Beer is delicious, but maybe not quite consistent yet. Best craft brewery in Washtenaw County. I love almost all of the beers they make and have on tap. Not a lot of weird stuff like you see at some of the bigger places, just a good variety of great IPAs, stouts, porters, ambers, and the occasional pilsner. There are at least 10 beers on tap at all times and the styles will suit anyone. They have every style of beer, wine, cider, and even non-alcoholic soda for anyone underage. The prices are very reasonable and the owners work here 5 nights a week. Its a great place to come play some games and hang with friends. Im not the beer drinker, so i sampled the cherry hard cider and the apple mead. I was having a hard time deciding and the bartender recommended the cy-mosa..fresh orange juice with mead...OMG..love it!!! They have snacks, like nuts, popcorn and pub mix. Its a few dollars for each. Boyfriend is a big IPA fan. He tried the 2 apostle ale, on golden blonde, hops flash, cascade amber and Gods wrath IPA. He said all were good, but the cascade amber stood out far above the others. He really liked that one. Service was great. Chatted with the bartender and he was great. I think the personality of bartenders in these local breweries can make or break the experience, and he was great. Overall, we recommend stopping in for some great drinks and light snacks. After I drink here, I tend to go on long walks along which I brood and sulk and contemplate the meaning of life and the origins of the universe. They don't have a food menu, but you're welcome to bring in a sack lunch or hot food from any of the many local eateries. Food trucks often swing by, though, with many mouth-watering treats. Flights are reasonably priced and the beer is solid. God's Wrath at 13.2% tastes great without being overpowered by the alcohol content. The ESB was also fantastic. Atmosphere was plain but enjoyable. Sounds like trivia will be coming here very soon. Only food offered is chips and popcorn for 75c but outside food is allowed. This is my 28th Michigan microbrewery review, and I travel for work and have reviewed microbreweries in IN, IL, TN, VA, and WI. I also know that there are too many places that can both make good beer, and be accommodating, to worry about those that can't, or won't. I arrived by bike and found no bike rack at this strip mall location. The interior was dark, and had a feel like a former generic Italian restaurant. I ordered the Feeling Smiley IPA, which has an outstanding "fruit-forward" hopiness, as advertised, as well as a nice balance, and I do recommend it. Go ahead and stop by, get a Feeling Smiley, outside and count cars in Papa John's parking lot or chat up people buying insurance next door. read more
