So this is actually a review after the fact, I came to have my coverup in my arm a while ago, my artist was Emily, I did love the tattoo she did as a cover up, this tattoo meaning was very special to me, once she was done with the tattoos in the right arm she told me to comeback and she will have the retouching for free, as we both saw that the green details were not there and the stone designs was not as I wanted it, but it was supersore so we stopped there, I came a week later to have my left arm tattoo done, I wasn't feeling the vibe? But once again she told me, "- I know you aren't happy with this tattoo, just let it heal a bit and I will fix it" I wasn't happy, but she wasn't feeling good so I let it go and told her I was coming back... Unfortunately she passed, I was heartbroken, she was the sweetest.... Few days later I did mentioned the situation about my tattoos to the Janae, they girl at the front desk, my arm tattoos, right and left weren't healing the way it supposed too, I was told that they were going to fix my tattoos, they did stated that they had to fix several pieces done by her.... I said ok!!! Then I had another piece done by another artist at this same location, I wanted to cover a tattoo in my left leg, I had it done and I stated that I would love for him to fix my other tattoos, when I came back 2 weeks later to have it finished I was told that he wasn't going to be able to do it and that the manager had to do it... I was like hummm ok, I wasn't sold to the idea honestly, but I did wanted to know how was doing to cost me to have the other artist fix it "as he said, my tattoo looked like a butthole" but I tried to call him and text him but he never answered... Now when I tried to have them fix my tattoos by Michele, the manager, I was sent an email saying that they weren't going to fix it because I didn't want Michele to do it, I had to have her do it or nobody, I spoke to Jane's on the phone prior to this email and actually when I was there finishing my tatto and told them ok, I trust her saying that Michelle was good and she could do it.. But now they won't fix this tattoos, the one in my left arm look soooo bad!!! Specially after they referred to it as a butthole.. I know funny but now I just try to cover it all the time. They says that it was over the time limit to fix it, I didn't even know was a time limit.. they were aware I couldn't come a week because I had my son coming to visit for10 days, and then the storm... besides!! I had to let my arm tattoos heal!! Specially when they had bad scaring on the details it took forever to heal! Every time I touch my tattoo stone design, it turns white and red!!! Never the color I wanted to begin with... now I'm stuck with this horrible tattoos (most the left arm one) and the bad colors on the one in the right... I just want this tattoos fixed, I paid over $1500 and I'm not happy with the results!!!! read more

I really wish I could give this place a good review. The first time I came here was with my Mom who got a tattoo that she loved and the person who did it was great (unfortunately he moved). The second time, my roommate and I planned for weeks to get one. I chose MotorCity over Blue Gorilla or anywhere else because of that first experience. We went in to set our appointment and talked to the guys who were going to do them. The guy who did my roommate's did an amazing job- took his time and made sure everything was perfect. Unfortunately, the guy that did mine did not. I asked for a song quote in my dad's handwriting. I brought examples of his handwriting and after being told they "couldn't piece the letters together", they figured it out. After writing down and verbally spelling exactly what I wanted and multiple text AND email exchanges, I went in for the appointment. The stencil looked just like my dad's handwriting and I was SO excited. The experience itself was great, he was funny and outgoing and I really had put a lot of trust in him. I wasn't super pleased with the immediate outcome, he definitely took some creative liberties with the letters while actually doing the tattoo, but it was alright. Now keep in mind the tattoo is on my rib cage and I can only see it so well in a mirror. When I got home I ran up to my dad to show him and the first thing out of his mouth was "Its spelled wrong..." I was in total shock. After thinking "there's no way!" I took a picture to see it better (its the last word and pretty far back) and sure enough, it was spelled wrong. I went to the shop the next day that they were open and told whoever was up front. The guy that did my tattoo wasn't there so they called him. He, the trained professional, tried to put the blame on me, the young 19 year old girl who had zero tattoo experience, for not noticing (even though I wrote, texted, emailed and verbally spelled the word out for him). After informing me that they could not give me a refund, he offered to "fix" it and give me another small tattoo for free. I figured that was better than nothing so I agreed to it. I came back a few days later only for him to not show up. He said he was on his way so I waited at least in hour for him to show up- never did. So I came back AGAIN. Obviously shouldn't have. He "filled in the gap" between the extra letter and the one next to it and then proceeded to go back through and make all of the letters thick and dark- the opposite of what I asked for. For the oh-so-generous free one, I went with a heart- how hard is that to mess up? I guess it's pretty easy... He free-handed it and it is just awful. He went over it twice and the lines don't overlap and it is so far up under my boob that you can't see it. Turns out that was for the best, but still, isn't it your job to know good placements? So now I have one thick, muddy, ugly, crooked, misspelled quote and one sharp, straight-lined heart on me forever and for the last 2 years I have been coming to terms with having not one but two god awful tattoos on my body forever. It totally ruined getting tattoo's for me and I cringe every time I see them in the mirror. The only "good" thing that came from it is having my own "NO REGERTS" story to tell. I don't expect anything from this company or him as I have been let down so many times already, I just hope the person that did this to my body learned his lesson. read more

Stopped in to motor city on a whim yesterday with two friends. Was greeted by a nice woman at the desk and someone was out to consult with us within just a few minutes. The man we first spoke with was super honest and said that another artist, Megan, was better at teeny detail work than he was. Right off the bat, major bonus points for honesty. Megan came out and was so sweet and helpful. She explained to the three of us what she would do with our inspiration and led one of my friends to Dave for her tattoo. Meghan did two small and simple black pieces for me and a small floral piece on the back of my friend's arm. Her lines were super clean and all three turned out better than we could have hoped. Dave was awesome and the piece he did turned out amazing as well. The shop was clean, the prices were reasonable, and the staff was friendly, talented, and educated. If I could I would give this entire establishment less than zero stars. I made an appointment with David Winge at this place a month ago. I paid him for the "design" of my tattoo and scheduled a day to come in. Showed up for my appointment that has been on the calendar for a month and.....nothing. No design, no communication, and get this, no tattoo artist. That's right, not only did this "artist" take my money and not design a tattoo, he didn't even show up for the scheduled tattoo appointment. I waited for an hour past our scheduled time and left when nobody else in the shop wanted to help either. I thought the other artists in the shop would maybe pick up the phone and call David to tell him he should think about showing up for the client he had standing in the building with the appointment card with the date and time for the tattoo on it....nah.....nobody else gave a shit either. Evidently this guy has no phone number to call. Really?!?!? I call back later and get some bullshit story about how, "we're all independent contractors so we can't give you your money back blah, blah, blah..." I'm telling you people.....think twice before you walk through the door here. And whatever you do, under no circumstances would I advise doing any sort of business with David Winge. Save yourself the headache. He'll take your money and run. No design and no tattoo. Don't say I didn't warn you. Summerville and surrounding area, if you want a tattoo I would suggest you drive right on past this place. Two words....Bush League. I don't care what line of business you're in be it healthcare, banking, or tattooing, if you can't show up and don't really care if your clients get taken care of you won't be in that business for long. There are several other tattoo shops in the surrounding area that are more than happy to have your business. read more
