I took my 350 sbc motor here a few years ago after my cam crapped out on me . They rebuilt my motor to 383ci. Within the first 6 months break in , the cam wiped out again. They supposedly rebuilt my motor again using a stronger cam of their recommendation, now the motor was running ok until smoke clouds were randomly coming out of my exhaust. Polo couldn't tell me what the issue was . He just insisted on me continuing to break in the motor . Months later , my motor started idling too easy . My oil looked like mush even after a fresh oil change . So I ripped apart the block to discover my #2 piston rings never sat right and the piston was charred . My cam was on the verge of wiping out a lobe, and my oil pump was stock after they told me it was a high volume pump . I paid over $3300 for the job just to rebuilt it again myself . I brought my 99 Tacoma here for a full motor re- manufacturing. It had a blown head gasket. I also had them do my clutch and replace my radiator. When I got my truck back, it had a really bad exhaust leak, and they reluctantly took it back to fix it. After that, the truck ran but always felt a little unhealthy, less healthy than before it blew a head gasket. I got 13,000 miles out of it before it blew a head gasket again, just months after having the work done. The warranty was 12000 miles or one year, whichever came first. Obviously the 12,000 miles came first as I drive a lot for work. I talked to Polo about it and he said it's out of warranty, I said yeah but what's the deal? You guys did something wrong? He agreed to do the head gaskets again if I paid for parts. I reluctantly did so, they acted like they were doing me a favor. Got it back and drove 6,000 miles before it blew a head gasket again. I had asked Polo what was a reasonable expectation about how much life i should get out of the truck after the initial rebuild- he said the warranty is only one year/12000 miles but that realistically I should get another 100k miles out of it, as far as the engine goes. He couldn't guarantee that, and I understood, but I expected to have a working truck again for at least a few years. He didn't want to help me out after the 2nd failure. I also paid for a clutch kit, but my clutch still felt like it was "gone" if you know what I mean. In the end he said " these trucks are known for having head gasket issues"- well what does that mean? You'll take my money and then afterward tell me you knew it wouldn't work out? This was the biggest waste of money I've ever spent in my life. $5,100 to get less than 20,000 miles out of a vehicle. I could have bought a different used truck for that much money. My truck has now been sitting in my side yard rotting while I try to figure out what to do. I have so much money in it now that I have to fix it again. ABSOLUTELY DISAPPOINTING. read more

I brought my truck in two months ago (that's right, right before the pandemic really got started). Paolo took me around his shop explaining the process from the engine removal to machining (sp?) to reinstallation. The engine had 190k miles to it and was failing compression tests, etc. None of this troubled Paolo as his technicians apparently had the years of experience. Now, this is why I give 5 stars - it was how Paolo handled the truck when it experienced some problems afterward. With his standard warranty, he took the truck right in, serviced it, and got it working again. Since then I have brought the truck in for engine tune-ups and he has continued to standby his warranty. And engine with that many miles on it is bound to require to follow up maintenance and Paolo, without begrudging, has taken it in every time. Thanks Paolo! read more

I called early before they get busy to inquire if my Cylinder Head is completed as it's been five days since I dropped it off to get a valve job and they just ignore the phone. I highly recommend this place! I have a 2002 Dodge Ram 4.7L with 106,000 miles, and for those that know about that year's engine build, it had problems. It took me about 2 months of web searching to find a place. I was even ready to take it as far as L.A. to have the work done. I found out that the place in L.A. has a joint company in San Diego that does the same thing. These guys had the most competivitve price. My truck's engine was cleaned, and rebuilt. The engine is running like it was rolled right off the dealer's lot. It was deffinetley better than having to buy another engine, or a getting a new truck for that matter. My truck has taken care of me for the past 9 years, it was time to return the favor. Also it is my first vehicle. read more

Excellent machine shop! I took in my head in for my Volkswagen golf to get check out...after cleaning the head and changing out 4 valves plus the head kit..it came out to $350. Plus the guy at the desk was very nice, he explain what they were going to do and how much it would cost. Excellent quality work and excellent guest service!!!! They picked up the engine from curbside, did the work in about 1 week, and their work and parts were flawless - all for about $950. Work included: 3-angle valve job, new valve stems, redecking head, welding & remachining crank, oversized rebore, redecking, new pistons, rings, bearings, conrods, oil pump, gasket set, and probably more I am forgetting. What a great bunch of guys to deal with. My T Bird is my baby, so finding someone I can trust to do any work on her is tough. A friend of mine said he knew a shop that might be able to mill my exhaust manifolds and do a valve job on the heads. I had them out of the car already so a regular mechanic wasn't what I needed. I was bit nervous when I saw all the heads stacked by the front door. There was a ton of them in various states of repair and I was sure mine were going to get lost in the bunch. I was given a reasonable quote and a receipt and was off. A few days later I got a call saying the valves replaced too. The cynical voice in my head said, "here we go. this is how they get you." But before I could get annoyed Sergio told me the price. It was so cheap I asked him to check again. The work was done on time, at the newly quoted price and the heads and valves look brand new. I may have to rewrite this review if they don't work once I get them on the car. But from everything I can see and feel, the guys did a great job and didn't mind me calling to ask questions. I hope I never have to tear my motor down to the block again, but if I do, I'll go back to the Motor Machine for sure. read more

I had an exhaust manifold bolt that was stuck spinning off my Explorer. A mechanic I had met strongly recommended these guys if I needed anything done. Also another guys from Southland Clutch recommended them as well. I took there and they had it taken out and re-threaded in less than 2 hours. They gave me a upfront price which he honored and it was fair. I'm going to be bringing some more exhaust parts down there soon. First impression when you walk in might seem like they are unorganized with heads all over the place and other parts but they are very professional and I recommend them just based on customer service. read more

It would agree it were an excellent shop if they were timely with the repairs. Estimating that an engine would be ready at a certain date and then blowing off the date by a whole 7 days seems a little ridiculous to me. Their excuses seemed understandable, but saying it would be ready the following day knowing they wouldn't have it ready, or better yet knowing their shop IS CLOSED and therefore won't answer any phone calls shows their lack of professionalism. One asks for time estimates for a reason. I came in based off the great reviews, but left disappointed by their poor management. read more
