Excellent machine shop! I took in my head in for my Volkswagen golf to get check out...after cleaning the head and changing out 4 valves plus the head kit..it came out to $350. Plus the guy at the desk was very nice, he explain what they were going to do and how much it would cost. Excellent quality work and excellent guest service!!!! The best part I dropped it off at 12pm and it was ready the next day by 3pm;-)

Chris does great machine work. Parking is challenging, shop is tucked in the back. Fair pricing and honest work.

They did my 1991 Corvette aluminum heads. Had a crack repair & valve job done. Price was very reasonable & repair was flawless.

To make matters worse, I'm currently dealing with a custody battle after catching my girlfriend cheating with my cousin, so my stress level was already at about a 12 out of 10. Finally got my car back and started driving home. The car started shaking. At first, I figured it was just my stomach because I'd been battling diarrhea all day. A few minutes later I realized it wasn't my stomach--my car was dripping fluids everywhere like it had just signed a sponsorship deal with Tuli Drip. Then the dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree. Every warning light imaginable was on. At that point, I was convinced my Envista was preparing for liftoff. I couldn't drive it, so I called a tow truck and got hauled back to the dealership. Of course, by the time I got there, the shop was closed. The next morning they inspected it and delivered the shocking diagnosis: "It was just your gas cap." Apparently, I didn't have it on properly when I started driving. So after 5 hours at the shop, a panic attack, a tow truck ride, an overnight stay, and enough dashboard lights to decorate a neighborhood, the culprit was... a gas cap.

He did a quick preliminary diagnosis and gave me a fair quote for the alternator parts and labor. A few hours later, instead of just doing the expensive repair, he called me and explained that the alternator was actually fine -- the real problem was a wire that was shorting out and causing the symptoms. The repair ended up costing significantly less than expected because they were honest enough to fix the actual issue instead of replacing parts I didn't need. I also had them change the fluids and filters while it was there. He said it looked like my spark plugs needed changing as well. Everything was completed quickly and professionally. It's hard to find shops that are this honest and transparent these days. Highly recommend Total Care Transmissions for their integrity, communication, and quality work.

Oh-oh, it showed Throttle Position Sensor. The part listed for $350 at O'Reilly, and I requested a referral to a repair shop. It was Formula Auto Repair, nearby on Highland Avenue, right next to KFC. They charged me over $100 to do the same test, then told me exactly what I had told them, it needs a new TPS. I authorized the repair after determining they would charge me $359 for the part, a fair price. The waiting room is dismal. Unmatched, uncomfortable chairs placed around the perimeter of the room, up against plate glass windows. Months old automotive industry magazines, and one several year old AARP magazine, very well thumbed. No vending machines, nothing. A star off for the total lack of customer amenities. The repair was completed, but the car did not perform to my expectation. After a phone call, I returned several days later to have a different new TPS installed. The car ran better, perhaps the ECU was communicating with it better. Bottom line, it was a successful repair. The service manager was very patient with me, and the new replacement part was installed as a customer service. Except for the waiting room, it was a good experience.

He also works on classic cars, so my hopes are high in him doing a good job. However it's been a month since he's had my car and I'm starting to get nervous since the crash did not require mechanical labor. It was a cosmetic job. I will update my review when I get my car back. Update#1: Two weeks after I posted my first review Louie confirmed my car was ready for pick up. Immediately, you can tell that no frame work was done on the car despite having had a front end accident which usually expands the frame. There were huge gaps between the bumper, hood, and fenders. I told him I would not be taking the car and expected him to fix the frame. The purpose of having insurance is so that any frame damage is repaired. I also received a $6000+ invoice from the insurance with an itemized list of all the the work Louie did NOT do! He claimed to have completely replaced the hood, the headlights, the radiator, and all sorts of things that he did not do. This was so disappointing and discouraging. He made an already stressful situation worse but since he agreed to fix the frame I was going to give him another chance. Update #2: Two weeks after the above incident my car was ready for pick up again. I could see that there were attempts to fix the frame because the gaps between the hood, bumper, and fenders were not as large as before but still noticeable in some areas, like the left headlight still had a gap between the bumper and the headlight. Tired of this shops carelessness, I was scared that if I left it longer, they would screw me over more, so I just took my car. Update#3: I've had my car for a month now and I noticed the bumper wasn't sticking well to the car. Not falling off but not secure and snug, so I took it to an autobody shop to get it looked at and they showed me all the places my bumper had glue! And explained to me that the person who installed it didn't even screw it on right. They want me to replace the entire bumper, again! I'm going to get another opinion elsewhere but Louies really screwed my once beautiful car. I hope all the money he claimed on my insurance was worth it. Lesson learned, though! Louies was an out of network body shop and I will never do that to myself again.
