The MVA opens promptly at 8:30 am and most people know to show up at around 8ish to form a line and wait for the doors to open. They close at 4:30 pm on weekdays, 12 noon on weekends and closed on Sundays. Normally, it is minimally busy but most things get processed in a somewhat timely manner. I enjoy being here at the most 2 hours, though it hasn't ever been that long for me. Most licensing items can be taken care of in about an hour. The staff is helpful if you have questions about what to do, where to wait in line or what documents to have available. When driving down the boulevard to find this MVA you could miss it. If you see signs for the MD state police, you've found the place. I guess they figure have the MVA next to the police station in case angry people that failed a driving test or can't get the proper documentation may need some reassurance of the law. Anyhoooo...like any other MVA, you go to the front desk and state your reason for being there. The clerk gives you a letter/number and you wait for you're ticket to be called over the loud speaker or the monitor for the hearing impaired. I'm not going to guarantee that everyone will have a quick and enjoyable experience at the MVA, but I know for sure the earlier you get there the better off you'll be. Lunch time and after may be a hassle for some. The following link will tell you the location, services of the MVA, hours of operation and more: http://www.mva.maryland.gov/Hours-Locations/carrollcounty.htm Go get that documentation baby!

I knew not to go on Monday because the PA DOT Driver's License Center in Enola is closed. It gets hectic on Thursday, Friday, and weekends. I opted for today, a Wednesday. I was in and out within one hour, thanks to Craig, who processed my Real ID documents, and Stacey, the photo lady.

So here's the facts: I entered the line at 11:15am. I left…read moreat 4:15pm. The crowd was crazy! So many people there for real ID. I'm not sure if it would be different on a weekday but it was crazy. If you're going on a Saturday or Sunday, I would get there as SOON as the doors open, or else you will be waiting for literal hours. It's not that the staff isn't working, but surely there's a more efficient way to handle things? Aside from that, the staff was nice! The woman at the end of the first line was checking everyone's documents to make sure they had everything they needed before they took a ticket for the larger waiting room. The process itself to get my real ID took five minutes. I'd recommend going with a full stomach, a book, or taking a friend to chat with/ befriend some other people in line or else it'll move at a snail's pace. Don't be miserable and you'll be fine.

This place is hopping! I was later told by my partner that his is somewhat of the MVA headquarters…read more That explains it. I saw cars in line to take driver's tests and accidentally ran across the CDL driving test parking lot. Doh! I was here for my TSA interview. And I was totally confused. For one, you can't enter via the front door so, park in the back. Secondly, all the one-way streets had me going in circles. I understand the safety aspect of it, but I wish they would identify the direction on the backside of the parking lanes. It took me three times circling the parking lot to finally be able to park. There's a lot of handicap parking so, if you're coming from the back side, look for non-handicap parking on the lanes to your left. Once you enter the building, there's a lot to decipher so, come early. There are a lot of police so they might be able to point you in the right direction. If you're coming for your TSA Interview, you'll see the sign. The room is to the left when you enter. It looks like a small office, which it is. The representative was quick. I just wish those in customer service would remember the field they chose to work in. Communicate, engage, smile or something. I felt like I was intruding on her time and she was just going through the process. But hey, like I said, it was relatively painless. She took my fingerprints, took a picture, I paid and was out the door in approximately 20 minutes.

Despite this being in another county, they have the quickest appointment for the next day. I arrived, checked in a couple minutes before my appointment and was in my car five minutes after my scheduled appointment! I don't even waste time on reviews for fast food spots or government-operated shops like the MVA…read more But this is totally worth it. Why is it always so difficult to complete tasks at organizations such as the MVA? Why? One needs a damn drink after dealing with the inconsistencies, the inaccuracies, the crap, the lack of attention to detail, the different training levels, piss poor customer service -- throw it all away and start over. On my FOURTH (4th) visit to the MVA to handle titling issues, I was told I NOW needed additional documentation. On my THIRD visit, I was told I needed ONE additional document, which I brought to my FOURTH visit. So, MVA, Governor Wes Moore and all public servants of the friggin MVA, why is there an additional requirement when it was not identified on the initial or even third visit for that matter? I really don't like to call anyone incompetent, but the level of service, incompetence inadequacy and inefficiency is nothing short of PISS POOR. Why does every window at the damn MVA have different requirements? Containing frustration when dealing with the MVA is an understatement.
