This place is located in Glenmont Plaza at the corner of Layhill Road and Georgia Avenue. Parking is free as it is in a plaza, but more of the storefronts in this plaza seems to be closed (for a long while too as they look dusty). I only came to this location for convenience as I knew what I wanted done was going to be a quick in and out service. There are 2 doors to this location - you can enter in either door. As you enter, to your left is a screen (waist level) and you go to select what service you are there to do or get done. Once you select an item, a ticket is produced (to the right of the screen). Grab your ticket and wait. It has a letter & number on the ticket. As you sit and wait, if you don't see your number on the screen above (like I did), not to worry as it will eventually appear. The screen to see your number is not very big, but an automated voice will call it out and let you know which desk number to sit at. As you sit, the employee will then take your number and assist you with what you are there for. The person I had was very helpful and even assisted me with an additional question that was different from what I originally went to her desk for. She provided the best assistance and directed me to which location to get a better answer for my question. That was it. My entire visit took about 10 minutes. There were only about 10 customers in the place and the place looked fully staffed. read more

We all know that The MVA not only gets a bad Rap but most of the time is a nightmare. My son and I went into this location to get an issue resolved. The forms we had were very unclear and confusing. We came in around 3:00 PM and found "Barbara" who was the most pleasant and patient person. We explained our situation to her, Barbara took all the time we needed to sit and explain the form to us and what we needed to do. It was actually a real pleasure coming here and speaking with Barbara. Other MVA locations could learn from Barbara, we are not just numbers but we are people needing help, great job and thank you. read more

A little hole in the wall in the corner of the shopping center, easy to miss Brightly lit, clean, two rows of molded plastic chairs. Fortunately, I wasn't in them long, as the automated kiosk at the entrance gave me the next number and in a couple of minutes the previous client was done. The process of renewing my license was stress free, and the agent was efficient and polite, quite the opposite of all the MVA stereotypes. Heartily recommended if you can do what you need here rather than the zoo at the big offices. My only complaint is the slow computer system. read more

MVA Express needs a better process for Marylanders to change their current driver's license. I was there 2 hours. There was not enough seating; there were more guys sitting than women with children; and people that physically had disabilities. There were more women giving up their seat for the persons with disabilities & matured in age. They wanted my current driver's license, birth certificate, social security card, passport, two (2) forms of additional paperwork with my current address (like bills). I asked and had no more questions than I received answers from MVA. What will MVA do with our scanned paperwork? Will we wake up one morning to find someone stole our identity? Is the government kicking people off the island? Why are we paying for another license prior to the expiration? What difference it makes whether you are a veteran? Will veterans get perks being pulled over by police? This is irate. I spoke to other friends and associates in other U.S. states who stated, they are all going through the same process. Did our country just figure out this had to happen? Why did we (taxpayers) have to pay for it? Is the border wall $$$? I did have a very friendly employee who assisted me. Even though she had no answers to "why" this was happening, per our conversation. read more

I had to renew my license this morning. This mva opened at 8:30am and I arrived at 8:50am. I had pretty low expectations and had planned to be there all day because ya know that's just what people say...it takes forever. So yes, this was express and I had hoped I would be in and out quicker than my 4 hour expectation. I went inside and there were about 50 people there. I took my ticket number and waited and within one hour I was out! It was quick and easy. Painless and the service was excellent all of the people working there seemed really kind and happy. Again, not what I expected. I am only 25 and don't go to the mva often so this was a true adult experience that I innately was set up to dread and it was actually awesome! I was blown away by how efficient this place is now. Service by appointment only is by far the best way to go moving forward. We walked right in a little before our appointment time. We established a REAL ID DL and got a car titled and registered in less than 20 minutes. The folks behind the counters seem way less stressed out and and were super helpful...again...probably because they aren't dealing with a lobby full of angry people 9 hours a day. Five stars for MVA's Glenmont location! I decided to go to this "express office" yesterday to get my license renewed (Happy birthday to me!) and walked in with my favorite book under my arm, ready to wait in a long line that would move an inch a minute. But what did I find? At 4:00pm, 30 minutes before closing, there was NO line. When I went up to station #4, the woman behind the counter handled my transaction so efficiently that I was in and out in five minutes. The short wait was one thing, but what really took the cake was how unreasonably friendly the staff was! I really couldn't believe it! The woman who worked with me let me take my picture a few times and had a great sense of humor about it. As I waited all of two minutes for my license to be printed, I was watching the other employees, and they all seemed to be having a grand old time. I talked to my parents about this unusual experience, and they both noticed the same thing in their recent experiences at this office...which means that this kind of friendliness and efficiency could possibly be a regular thing! This is convenient but small. Depending what time you go you can either expect short lines or lines coming out of your forehead from frustration. You are able to return tags here, renew licenses, and get photo IDs. They also have most MVA forms available even if they don't offer the services. One time I went I saw a nice Chinese guy who I had seen work in the Gaithersburg MVA. It's nice because I know there are Chinese folks who struggle when there aren't translators with them. I'm pretty sure the dialect he speaks is Cantonese though. There's always plenty of parking and with the variety of other businesses, you can kill two birds with one trip. There's a Staples, Korean restaurant, a Chinese Buffet, another Chinese joint (carryout), Social Security administration?, Pizza hut, Florest, Shoppers, Sunoco, McDonald's, a gardening supply store, jewelry shop, Chevy Chase Bank, CVS, and a couple of other stops. read more

Arrived 15 mins. before opening time (8:30am) one Saturday morning. There was already a line of about 20 people waiting outside. It was pretty painless to get my license renewed. I think the $30 charge just to renew your license is bogus, but all MVA's charge this amount. All in all it was a good experience. Employees were friendly and efficient. Make sure to arrive very early on Saturday if that's the day you're planning on stopping by. I went two different Saturdays: once at around noon (close to closing), and it was a mad house. I tried it again the following week at 9:30am and it was still a mad house. Finally, I said to myself, "I'm going a little before they open! People like to sleep in on Saturdays." Like I said above, 20 people were in front of me so it looks like others had the same idea. But it was much, much better than the previous two attempts. read more

I always hate visiting the MVA, as most of us do: long lines; chaos everywhere; the police officer "helping" keep order by sitting at a plastic desk in the corner; screaming children; the inevitable token individual who's problem is too complicated for the "H" category or "G" category, who must spend ten minutes at the ticket counter. Well, folks, this MVA is nothing like that. Small, organized, and generally quiet, this is the MVA I always drop tags off at (for our insurance clients). The process, even if you need a receipt, is speedy and the workers here are much more pleasant than other MVA locations I have been to. I highly recommend this location, but suggest checking online to be sure they do whatever you need since it is an express. read more

I arrived at 4:00 pm to renew my drivers license. I was greeted at the door by a very nice gentleman who walked me over to the ticket machine and gave me a number. I did have all my paperwork ready, so there was no problem there. I had my passport, W2 form and bank statement. I was headed to my car at 4:30 !! Was very pleased. Very friendly staff. Needed to come in today to turn in tags and change Address. Typically in the past the MVA workers were rude nasty and didn't want to answer questions. pretty much everyone who's had to walk into an MVA dreaded it until express came along ! I think staff got some new training because they were friendly from the start ! There was someone at the kiosk ready to give you a correct ticket . The shady grove check in staff wasn't as friendly but whatever . I did have to wait awhile but that's a given , not as long as the regular places Staff member who helped me he was kind amazing and explained everything and my options. They smiled alot and wished me a good day it felt genuine. I thanked them for their service and complimented them, they seemed surprised ha ha ! I will come back if need be. read more

I came in on a 12:40 Tuesday afternoon. The wait was one hour exactly until I got called up. I expected the wait time to be shorter by 15 or 20 minutes But all of the seats were filled, so I am impressed by even an hour. The regular MVA everywhere else would have took 5 hours so I'm giving it 5 stars however because I had to get a new license and the entire process once I got called up was less than 10 minutes. The employee who helped me, quickly wrote down my information and wrote me up for a new license. There was no hassle and the wait was tolerable considering regular MVA are always a nightmare to navigate and use. read more

This is the BEST MVA in the area. Sure, the chairs are old and stained but the wait here is short, workers are not rude, and there's ample parking. Do yourself a favor and go to this MVA even if it's further away than that other horrible MVA (cough, White Oak, cough). Never thought I'd be giving a 5 star review to a govt agency, but wow! Had been dreading the line, and yep, there were a bunch of people in the waiting area when I arrived at 4pm. Immediately greeted by a woman at the self-serve station, and she handed me the correct ticket. I didn't even push the button. Sat down, got called 1-2 minutes later, and my issue was handled quickly and courteously. In and out in 5 minutes! Can't all dmvs be like this?! read more

Came in today to renew my license. I was in and out in under 30 minutes. The staff was friendly and nice and the facility was pretty clean. Considering how much of a pain going to the MVA usually is, this was a great experience. They even had decorations up which was cute. If you need to get something done, check this location out. I will say come early though, I came in around 10:30 Monday and the place was packed. Luckily, there were only 10 people in front of me in my category. Good luck! read more

Like other reviewers----the seating is insufficient. And---I can say,..it's dangerous. Not everyone can use molded plastic seats. At all. The pierced-metal benches are too low and don't have arm rests. State offices of all kinds are guilty of this, we have to demand better. Is MVA monitoring sites to get an idea of what customers think? If MVA doesn't have a mechanism for Feedback, it should---seating is insufficient and atrocious. Customers can look online to gauge the Office wait time. Do people know the feature exists? Abbreviated hours on Saturday, but, oh, it's open half an hour early on Saturday. Doesn't that cause confusion? We work for a living....stay open until 4:00. Some nerve when you think of it. Do you knock off early one day a week?Normal height chairs and benches...with armrests. It's not that hard. And...lose the name. Since so many people have a wait of over an hour, "Express" is inaccurate. MVA needs feedback. Written material and websites are far too wordy, people miss stuff. Example...a waiver exists for emission inspection if driver is over age 70, and drives fewer than 5K. Certainly wasn't an express experience. Most of the comments were dead on. Basically standing room. Site is too small to accommodate the flow of people. However, once my number was called things went pretty smooth. The teller was polite, informative and fast. Had I walked into an express site all would have been seamless. If you have 3 hour to waste and you're looking for a Great teller experience. This is you the site. If not, find another site. read more

Waited 30-45 minutes to learn that they don't do out of state license transfers. This would have been nice to know when I took a ticket and seems easily corrected with a sign or an announcement on any one of the 10 tvs they have. Seriously, I don't know how they have such good reviews! Given the guy seemed to be helpful when he tried to make sure I would be able to take care of my issue. He confirmed that I would be able to, but turned out to be wrong. Also, I literally walked out of the door for a second to get my family member to tell them it was going to be a while. There was a cop who literally locked the door behind me when I stepped out and it wasn't even noon yet, when they're supposed to close. He would not let me back in, nor did he warn me as I stepped outside the door for literally a minute. All just to pay 20 dollars that the MVA wouldn't accept through the mail - wow. read more

*3.5 stars* I can't say that the Glenmont MVA office is a model of American efficiency...at least not on Saturdays. Yes, I did expect to wait in line. Yes, I did expect there to be a lot of people taking care of business on their day off. However, I was certainly not expecting these people to be as unobservant as they were. At certain times one can marvel at the ingenuity and intelligence of the American people. At other times - such as standing in line at the MVA - one can only be surprised at how unobservant our fellow citizens are. We've been standing in this line for ONLY 35 minutes, in plain sight of the counter and the MVA folks helping people take the vision exam, take their photo, etc. That's enough time to see about 15 - 20 people get their driver's license or ID. So, when you sit down at the counter, why is it suddenly a surprising mystery when the MVA woman tells you to sit in front of the big blue panel so she can take your photo? You obviously just passed the vision test -- did you really not see the electric blue panel that measures only about 4 feet by 5 feet, nor the black box across from it - which happens to be the camera? Anyway, other than having problems with my fellow license renewal seekers, this was not a bad process. The guy who helped me, however, was surprised when I asked to see my photo. And thank God I did, because it looked like a mug shot. He did let me retake it, and now I've got a pretty decent photo on my renewed license, and luckily I don't have to do this for another 5 years. * *(Yes, one can now renew a MD driver's license via mail, if certain conditions apply. This means your old photo gets reused. However, my previous license photo was less than flattering--although not as bad as a mugshot--so, out of vanity reasons, I did seek out an MVA office for my renewal.) read more

There was a very short line here! It was so easy to get my license renewed. You don't have to take a number or anything. It took me maybe a half an hour, probably less. It is worth going a bit out of your way to go here as its so much easier than sitting for two hours at the regular MVA office. read more

So pissed! I'm from out of state and knowing this was an express I called ahead of time to see if I could get my license changed from NC to MD. I called ahead and the lady told me they offered the service and told me exactly what to bring! I spend $20 to Uber from work on my lunch break only for the lady to tell me that they don't do the service. When I asked her who was picking up the phone that told me it's a service they offer, she literally said "that was a call center they don't know what they are talking about" unacceptable!!
