Brasserie Cote is the sibling restaurant to Cote De Boeuf and Union along the Ossington Strip…read more Having been to both Cote De Boeuf and Union many times throughout the years, it was nice to hear that finally, there would be another location in the city to grab some delicious French food. Located along Bloor St. W. and Brunswick Ave, this restaurant in the Annex has become quite popular since they opened in early March. They are currently in their soft opening (open for lunch and dinner on select days with breakfast soon to be added) and just like their other restaurants, it is walk in only. I decided to dine at Brasserie Cote on a Friday for a late lunch. The place wasn't as busy but there were still people finishing lunch as well as coming in. As a solo diner I opted to sit at the bar. There was no paper menu for food for lunch but everything was written on a board that was displayed facing the street. When I inquired about the food menu, the staff personally brought the board to me and went through the entire menu with me (there were about 8-10 items). He then put the board near the bar so other people could see. I was expecting that the lunch menu would be the same as the dinner menu but I guess not (some items for lunch are included in the dinner menu though from what I can see). There was also an extensive drink menu with a nice selection of wines as well as some alcoholic beverages (no mocktails unfortunately). Service wise, this could be improved upon. Service was a bit slow and just average. Unfortunately I didn't feel like drinking alcohol mid-day and the bartender didn't really have any mocktails that he could come up with and gave me a list of other beverages like soda and sparkling water. Understand that this is their soft opening phase so hopefully service wise things can feel more personable and friendly. Food wise, I opted for the onglet de boeuf a l'echalote & frites maison ($44), which was a grilled 7oz hanger steak, shallot and red wine sauce. Drink wise I opted for a non-alcoholic option as I didn't feel like having wine mid-day where I had the Goodlot ginger fizz (sparkling flavoured water). Food and drink were prepared and came to me at a reasonable time. In terms of the the steak frites, it was delicious! The steak was cooked more to a medium instead of a medium rare as I had ordered but it was tender. The fries were like the ones you'd get at Cote De Boeuf, slightly salty and crispy, where it came with a side of aioli. I had worked up an appetite so I was able to finish most of the steak frites. Glancing at what other people ordered, the salad looked super great as well. And as always, the steak tartare cannot be missed (this is my usual order at Cote De Boeuf). Overall, a great new addition to the Annex. Brasserie Cote is already popular for dinner so do come early if you'd like to dine here (they do not take reservations). The ingredients are carefully chosen for premium quality and taste. They soft-opened on 2026-03-05. During the soft-opening, it is walk-in only (no reservations), and they are only open Thu-Sat for dinner. Next week, 2026-03-19, they will open Thu-Sun for lunch and dinner. We ordered the following: 1. Assiette de Bresaola Maison ($24). 2. Halibut et Coquillages au Beurre Blanc ($43). 3. Choux à la Creme ($12). The service was excellent. The Halibut was very flakey and tasty (for a white fish). It was topped with Fried Capers, providing a salty umami flavour. It is also topped with Pangrattato, which is an Italian condiment made from coarse, stale breadcrumbs, fried in olive oil. The Halibut was 5 oz. The Venere Rice (Black Venus Rice) was surprisingly superb! This Italian rice has a deep purple/black colour with an intense nutty aroma. The clams were very good. Bresaola is a type of Italian salami made from air-dried, salted beef. This restaurant uses house cured Ribeye Cap Steak, known as "king of steaks", known for its rich marbling. It wasn't too salty. It was accompanied with Anchoix de Cantabrie (Cantabrian Anchovey Fillets), which are a premium type of anchovy, harvested within the Bay of Biscay. Of course it was salty, but this type is less intensely salty. Good thing the dish came with Duck Fat Toast so that I could put the bresaola amd anchovies on the toast to the balance the taste. The Choux à la Creme translates to Cream Puffs. It is light and hollow , filled with a nice white cream, which was light and delicious. It comes with a chocolate sauce, pour at the table. This dessert was chilled. There is a kitchen in that back where they prepare the base of the dishes. There is a small open kitchen in the front where the main chefs grill meats and fish, completing the dishes. There is a full bar. There are a small tables (seating about 20) and counter seating (seating 6-8) for indoor dining. During warm weather, there is a covered patio seating. The patio might finish renovations by May 2026, with an additional 30 seats. There is no free WiFi. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. The washroom is downstairs (hence no wheelchair accessible) with three gender-neutral stalls and two common wash basins. There is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2026-046

Service was done in unison from when the plates are presented and removed. Exquisite precision from every member from how the address you, to how they notice what you are doing without even looking at you. Dishes were fantastic with an incredible twist of Japanese freshness and French complexity. Standouts were the signature tomato dish, the sweet shrimp, mushroom soup and the bouillabaisse. But really it was all fantastic. Wine pairing was amazing and well chosen for the meal. The Germany Riesling was a standout for us. Special for us was that this was a week before Le Squer's birthday so there was a surprise birthday celebration for him that included gifts for him and cake and champagne all around. To put a final nice touch. Chef Leroy himself stood at the door to thank us as we left and he even escorted us to our car with an umbrella outside since it was raining. I've only had chefs escort us to the door a handful of times and only twice have they gone outside with us. None have ever held an umbrella for us as we went to our car. I ordered their salade de lyonnaise, lamb sirloin and chocolate torte. All were good. Though my friend couldn't have any alcohol and the lamb had a red wine sauce, instead they gave her some kind of reduction or au jus sauce with her lamb and it was absolutely delicious, way better than the actual sauce that came with our lamb and beef mains. We ended up using some of her sauce for our dishes too. I also tried the leek soup and pork terrine appetizers, which was also good though I especially liked the salad with the egg on top. The desserts are probably the highlight of my meal. I love the chocolate torte I had at the end and also tasted the apple tarte which was also great. I think for the Winterlicious menu, the quality of desserts are certainly better than other spots I've had. We also enjoyed the drinks, I had a lychee mocktail and my table had some wine and spanish coffee and decaf cappuccino which was also good. The staff was very attentive though my friend, while she told the staff she doesn't have a shrimp allergy she just didn't want shrimp in her soup. The atmosphere is quite warm and casual, and is ideal for date nights and special occasions. They offer a Prix Fixe menu and can choose between 2-course and 3-course meal. Service is amazing and our server is very kind to answer our MANY questions about the menu. He also gave us a few recommendations, which was greatly appreciated. Food is excellent! For appetizers, the mussels were HUGE and very fresh. For entrees, duck breast was our favorite - meat was very tender, perfectly cooked, and went well with the carrot puree. In addition, the sauce is very flavorful which really elevates the dish! Overall rating for our experience was a solid 4.5-star, and I ended up giving them a 4 (on the Yelp scale) probably related to the desserts.
