Dry erase board which is missing DISCHARGE!

I have not seen the bill yet - so that would probably drop the rating down to 3 stars as I know hospital and medical are insane - especially with a high deductible plan. DEEP SIGH. Anyways, everything was great except the food and the doctors. The food was barely edible but hunger made a little of it acceptable. Fortunately, I'm OK with decaf (tea and coffee) but in the AM I sure could have used high test. But back to the beginning of the story. In the middle of the night, my husband found me on the floor unresponsive and having trouble breathing. He called the squad and they transported me via ambulance to the ER. I don't know what really happened then - although my husband said the chaplain scared the snot out of him - making it sound like I would die. Granted, when I came to some hours later, I was on a ventilator. I did not want to be on a ventilator and felt I could breath on my own. They had me tied down so I couldn't pull it out. However, I managed to get the tube stuck further down my throat which caused me to choke and gasp for breath - so they HAD to take it out rather than wait the hour + they wanted to. THANK GOD. I could not have laid there tubed for another 60 minutes. I was able to breath fine and was moved to ICU. That's pretty much next thing I remember. Except the nurses being HORRIBLE at needle sticks. I give blood every 8 weeks at Red Cross and I know I have tough yet huge veins. They rarely have to stick me more than once. However, after repeatedly being stuck in the arm and having grown a huge hematoma, they gave up and I got an IV in my other forearm and another IV in my neck. Lovely. This was in addition to seemingly hourly blood glucose tests and regular blood draws. I know now what a voodoo dolls like (or pin cushion). I also had an Q2 tube and monitor going on. Anytime my breathing rate dropped/deepened - an alarm went off. I have very slow, deep respiration after years of yoga. SO - I was up all night with the alarm going off - as well as cuffs on my legs repeatedly inflating/deflating as well as a blood pressure cuff. If I would have had to stay longer hooked to that stuff, I would have suffered serious sleep deprivation. As it was, I felt OK once the tube was out. An ongoing headache and swings between fever and chills. Granted, I had received the COVID booster the day before. But they felt this was unrelated. They wanted to point to stroke or seizure - but no evidence. As a result, they were satisfied with medicine interaction/overdose. Although the squad shot me with narban (or the thing to stop ODs) and it did nothing. So they know it wasn't drugs. I concede to booster reaction + possible overmedication on RX - but that doesn't explain my body temp dropping to 91. I normally run 97.1 - but 91 is insane. So the nurses and staff were splendid. The rooms (ICU and step down) were great. The food would keep me alive but I wouldn't eat it if given any alternative. Except the sherbet and choc. pudding. So the doctors. They were idiots. I wanted to leave the same day I arrived and was stabilized after the ventilator. I proved I could walk and my biological systems were working out (could use the restroom). They just wanted to MONITOR me. And they didn't do an MRI they wanted (which I didn't need) until 3:30 in the AM. That was after moving my room at 1:30 AM. I honestly believe they just wanted to run up my bill - and too much CYA. To the 3 docs - the one who actually looked after me, the one who would only speak to me on the phone when I insisted on being discharged and who told me I'd go AMA - and the other one who I don't even know who she was but she was trying to mess with and stop meds I'm on that she had never heard of. WHAT makes her QUALIFIED to change my RX when it is ordered by a specialist who has been treating me 16 years with no problems and regular office visits/check ups. STAY IN YOUR LANE and LISTEN TO THE PATIENT. So in the end, I feel blessed that m husband found me and got me help. I feel grateful to the HELPFUL staff who looked after me and treated me with respect and dignity and listened to me. To them, I offered the same kindness and respect. But for the doctors - go pound sand. I have no respect for you. I thank you for doing the obviously needed and helping me during my time of trauma, but learn when to listen to the patient and defer to their specialists. The last time I was at this hospital was for a 5 day stay. Equally traumatic but with both awesome staff and doctors. Not sure if I would choose to ever come back here again. My docs are with OhioHealth and OSU. I've had decent experience with OhioHealth and not much to judge on with OSU. My advice, when at this facility, stand your ground and question everything.

Of course, there is always room for improvement with anything. Everybody did the best they could with ever-dwindling resources. That means a lot! Every member of the nursing staff, dietary staff, medical staff, and billing dept should be applauded for their genuine efforts to make the best of a bad situation. Of course, there are ALWAYS things they could do better. Instead of focusing on what they did wrong, try magnifying what they did RIGHT! Proverbs 16:24 "Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body." Proverbs 15:1 "A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." The highest award a nurse can receive is the Florence Nightingale medal. No positive change was ever effectuated by hateful rhetoric. Just remember that a diamond is coal that survived the pressure...

Wildly unethical billing practices. They regularly bill "establishing care" visits (i.e. your first…read morewellness visit with a new primary care doctor) as non-preventative care, so that you have to pay your insurance a co-pay or co-insurance, rather than as preventative care. I called to dispute this coding and was informed that this is indeed how they bill your first annual physical. They also suggested that this was partly due to my reporting pre-existing conditions. This means that every first annual physical you do at this practice gets billed as non-preventative care if you mention pre-existing conditions. I have had multiple "establishing care" appointments with new primary care doctors and this is the first one that billed my insurance as non-preventative care. I don't understand why they would do this when they are getting paid by my insurance either way, the only difference is that I, the patient, have to pay almost $200 myself, instead of my insurance covering all the costs. It shows how little this medical practice actually cares about their patients. Note: This pertains to the primary care clinic in Hilliard, but I assume the practices are the same across locations.
