This house was great for a weekend getaway with family, friends or couples. Everyone had their own room and en-suite bathroom, so we were all comfortable in the amount of privacy we had and in the communal spaces we shared. It was a pleasure to discover that hiking trails for Olana were across the road- a great daytime activity for a large group of people. This amazing stay made for lifetime memories. We weren't able to arrive until 8pm on a Friday night, but the owner was nice enough to leave the key in an envelope for when we arrived. This is as nice as a bed and breakfast could get. I felt like I was in a hotel just from how beautiful the bathroom was, but the rest of the furniture definitely had a b+b feel with antique, unique decor. We got the master suite which was huge and had a perfect view of these beautiful 2 tall trees, then with the mountains out in the distance. I loved the little nook by the window; just staring at that view and reading during any free time we had in the room. Like I said, the bathroom was pristine white and definitely updated- as a bonus, they had bath salt (sooo nice because we regretted not bringing ours during our car ride there) and cozy robes! (really only expect robes at nice hotels).The communal floor's kitchen had wine glasses which was helpful since we bought a bottle of wine, and it also had some fruit, a coffee machine and (best of all) cookies! They had a selection of board games and movies in their living room. We wish they had real fire places in the room and living room instead of gas/candles - would have made it way more cozy. Besides the fireplaces, we always wish b+b's have the option to rent bikes just as an extra activity, but we were able to entertain ourselves with the spa, museums, and winery nearby. The breakfasts were such a surprise. I didn't realize they had service; our last b+b had buffet style so kind of assumed it'd be the same here - so this was a nice treat. The servers were very sweet and prompt with refills for coffee/drinks (ps the apple cider is delicious). They only had one option which I don't blame them - but luckily I've become more adventurous in my eating and was willing to try whatever. We had an omelette the first morning and pancakes the second day, and both were very tasty. Love the view from the breakfast dining room (similar to our suite's view). The owner came out to introduce herself the first day of breakfast, but besides that stayed kind of behind-the-scenes, and the guests kind of stayed to themselves since they have separate tables. I'd say there were probably 6 other couples staying there at a time, which makes it very peaceful and quiet while you're on your own. I definitely recommend if you want a relaxing weekend getaway. It is more upscale than other b+b's but worth it if an occasion for sure. read more

I wish I could give this 4.5 stars but its more 5 than 4. The room/bathroom/bed and linens are all 5 stars. The breakfast has no additional options other than what they are serving but their breakfast was 5 stars so didn't need any other options. I want the pancake recipe - they were so fluffy. Where does this drop to 4 stars? The room didn't have an actual fireplace, nor did the main seating are downstairs, not even a gas fireplace. Just some standard candles. The main seating room, didn't really offer a coziness that we have seen in other bed and breakfasts. Location was right off a main road, up a dirt hill Aprox 8-10 min from any main towns. We recommend this place as an upscale B&B and if ever in town again we would stay here again. read more

My gf and I managed to book the rip room at Mount Merino just in time for the Fourth of July weekend. We've never been to Hudson and just wanted to spend some time in a cute town at a comfortable BnB. This manor was a 5 minute drive outside of the town which was great because we quickly got bored of Hudson to be honest.. far too many "antique" shops. But I must say that the management here was phenomenal. We were so well accommodated here and it felt great. Even before arriving, I had plenty of questions about the area and Melinda, the inn keeper was prompt and polite. When we arrived, she already knew who we were and greeted us at the front door. She showed us around the space and left us at our room along with our own set of keys to the room and some brochures for us to take a look at. We spent two nights here and had two breakfasts at the manor. WOW. This really blew me away. These meals were probably the best meals we had in Hudson. The dining room was laid out for each party that was staying that weekend so we had our own little table which was great. I could go on and on about the breakfast because it was just that great but I really just recommend that you come here and see for yourself! Beautiful grounds with an amazing view of the Catskills. Thanks for an amazing weekend guys! Hope to be back soon! Only recommendation is that you should change the name of "rips room" to something else? I know it's named after the view of the bridge but I think such a great room deserves a more accommodating name. :) read more

We stayed in the Isabel room, and it was amazing. A beautiful room with a huge separate sitting room, private deck, and jacuzzi tub. I was so surprised to be treated like a princess for the price that we paid. The breakfast was DELICIOUS, they served coffee, tea, juice, a fruit plate, warm lemon muffins, and challah french toast with bananas and cinnamon sugar butter. The parlor was really nice, we stayed up and drank tea and played board games. They even went above and beyond with in room amenities. Make up remover towels, toothpaste.... I didn't end up having to bring anything. This might sound silly but they were just so detail oriented. My tip would be to go on a weekday. It was such a good price! We stayed on a Thursday. This has to be my all-time favorite B&B in many decades of travel around the world. It's a gorgeous old Victorian home, built for artist Frederic Edwin Church's wife's doctor, on a high hill with sweeping views. The rooms are period-perfect and immaculate, and even our modest-sized one on the third floor -- "Rip's Room" -- was very comfortable, with a window nook and a bathroom with a huge shower. And the breakfast was just stunning -- fresh local fruit cup, followed by perfectly-done moist scrambled eggs on a slide of buttery Italian bread, and they were happy to substitute veggie sausages for the bacon. The host and wait staff were courteous and warm, and I can't think of any other stay at any B&B or hotel which left me with a warner, more contented feeling after my stay. We arrived to a gracious welcome from staff who led us up to our LOVELY room, and showed us the room we had reserved for my brother - both very clean, well appointed with beautiful Victorian/Persian furnishings, and loaded with charm as was the entire manor! The grounds are inviting, with adironack chairs and hammocks and gardens that can be seen along with expansive views of the valley from the wrap around porch; the food was really fresh, delicious and there was plenty of it. Every staff member we met - including the owner - was warm, helpful and cared about our experience. We stayed in the Eagles Crest room for one night. The room is clean and overall comfortable. The mattress was a bit old, but still firm. The highlights of the stay were the breakfast, the large porch and sitting area, and the grounds, which are beautiful. Our stay was a surpise to my wife and overall she loved it. We had a 2 night stay the first weekend of June and we loved it! My husband and I have never stayed at a B&B so it was a new experience for us. We stayed in "Rips Room" for the charming decor, but really everything about the room was just wonderful. Our bathroom was always bright and sunny and gave us that spa feeling when being in there. We arrived on a Friday evening, and even the next morning I had a hard time adjusting to being 'away'. By Sunday morning I felt completely rejuvenated, relaxed, happier and had more energy than I've had in weeks! Oh and breakfast....lets just say I got used to being pampered and would return just for that alone! Wendy who manages the house was such a great help with informing us about the area, local restaurants and even her experience working at Mt. Merino. She recommended Ca Mea restaurant and advised us to tell them where we were staying. We went, and not only was the food delicious, but they gave us a discount off of our bill for being Mt. Merino guests. I noticed that one review I read prior to staying at Mt. Merino was that there was very little interaction with others at the B&B and not feeling that warm friendly feel as at other B&B's. As I am not an experienced B&B traveler, I didn't know what to expect or if I would even want a lot of interaction. Our experience for the whole weekend though was just perfect. We both work long hours and live in Manhattan, so being around people is something we deal with whether we like it or not. At Mt. Merino we had all the time in the world to ourselves. We came and went as we pleased easily and not once did we feel that we were in any way ignored because of it. It was just what we needed. It was the perfect balance for us. And the few times we did speak with Wendy it was nice because she was always extremely friendly and helpful if we had a question or needed something. We already know that we will be returning but next time with family or friends so that they can enjoy the experience too! I wish I could leave the same positive response that other people have left. We paid and intended to stay two nights but unfortunately only stayed one due to a family emergency. While the linens were nice and the room well appointed the heat have been put on and it was very hot that night. We had to open all the windows and unfortunately you can hear the trucks going up and down State Road. Well I probably could have tolerated that, (given we were supposed to be at a wedding the following night and I'm sure that would have enabled us to sleep very well ), I was disappointed that the owner never followed up with us. The manager had been very sweet and gave us water and muffins for the road as we didn't even have breakfast. She indicated that the owner would probably accommodate us some other time, given that we paid over $900. I wasn't looking for a freebie but had been hoping for the courtesy of a response after I contacted them twice. I just wasn't expecting that. read more

My colleagues and I have been up in Hudson, NY on business since May 1st, 2016 and have made a home away from home at Mount Merino. Wendy, Rita and their crew up at Mount Merino have made these last two months away from home bearable and pleasant. Wendy's hospitality and her delicious and elegant breakfasts make waking up early worth while. The rooms are beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable and homey. The views from MM of the beautiful Catskills is breathtaking. The Mount Merino grounds are beautifully maintained and usher in a sense of calm and well being. Merino Manor is a beautiful inn on a hill on beautiful land. The view of the trees and the mountains is stunning from every direction. The wrap around terrace is shaded with comfortable chairs for relaxing with a good book or quietly chatting with a friend. An inviting hammock rests on the lawn. The owner has spared no expense. The bedrooms are spotless, sunlit, spacious, and charming with antique furnishings and gorgeous rugs. The beds have soft sheets, large pillows, and are very comfortable. My husband and I slept well. The bathrooms are clean, contemporary, and appointed with cozy bathrobes. Wendy, the inn keeper, welcomed us, showed us around, and made us feel at home immediately. She was wonderfully friendly and ever ready with helpful tips about sightseeing and restaurants. The dining area is sunny and cheerful. Wendy prepared breakfast for us each morning which was incredible. It turns out Wendy is a gourmet chef. She doesn't just make pancakes, for example. She makes lemon-infused pancakes with cinnamon butter, home-made strawberry muffins, and so on. We were there for three mornings, and each breakfast was a delectable surprise, everything home-made and delicious. One caveat if you are used to hotels and new to inns: This is a luxury inn, but there are no bellhops to carry your luggage up the stairs and there is no elevator. The inn has 3 floors. Be prepared to haul your luggage yourself. If that is not a deterrent for you, reserve a room as soon as possible. Merino Manor gets booked up. My husband and I felt lucky to be there. We felt so pampered, refreshed, and relaxed after our 3-day stay, it was very hard to leave. read more
