After spending a night with friends at the hotel three nights ago--and over a thousand dollars on dinner and drinks--we politely asked two days later if we could leave one small bag at the hotel for just two hours before driving back to Manhattan so we could walk around town. A Magical Stay at The Maker Our stay at The Maker was nothing short of magical. From the moment we walked in, we felt something special. The entrance was inviting and scenic, setting the tone immediately. Every detail was thoughtfully considered -- even the signage gently guided us in the right direction, allowing us to enjoy the journey instead of feeling lost. The check-in room was a charming little nook -- tucked away but still visible. Intimate, intentionally curated, and just big enough for a couple of team members to offer a warm welcome. And warm is exactly how we felt the moment we met our host. She was polite, gracious, and genuinely present -- not just doing a job, but truly part of the experience. She took our bags, led us to the living area, and offered us a glass of bubbles. We were able to settle in, soak up the design, and take in the art. As we sipped, she shared the history of the hotel and its founders, adding real depth to our stay. Then she walked us to our suite -- the "Artist" room. Now let me tell you: I'm an artist, my wife is in fashion, and we're both unapologetic hotel snobs. We love great hotels -- and I have never, in my life, walked into a room and had my jaw literally drop. Until now. OMG. The room was stunning. Every detail -- the textiles, the artwork, the objects -- was so intentionally chosen. We instantly fell in love with a piece by Kader B. and found ourselves on his website that night, searching for something to bring home. The mini bar featured local spirits, which we loved. The lighting was dimmable and perfectly positioned to showcase the art and set the mood. The bed? So comfortable, we ended up looking up the brand to see about upgrading our own. And when we walked in, Sam Cooke was playing -- soft jazz vibes in the background -- it was like stepping into a movie scene. Pure perfection. Then there was the bathroom. Heated floors. Custom tile. A soaking tub. Great water pressure. An oversized mirror. Everything about it was luxurious, design-forward, and just plain beautiful. The scent library in the hallway was an unexpected and brilliant touch. Before dinner, we stopped by that cozy corner to spritz on something special. It made us feel like the evening was an occasion -- and it was. Dinner in the conservatory was unforgettable. Simon, our server, was phenomenal. I told my wife: if I owned a restaurant, Simon would be on my team. Attentive, honest, funny, warm -- he made us feel truly cared for. The conservatory itself felt like a floral sunroom tucked away in the European countryside. Since my wife is pregnant, we passed on cocktails, but Simon brought her a non-alcoholic champagne tea that was out of this world. The next day, we had lunch in the café. Jules was our server -- and once again, the service and recommendations were flawless. As a vegan, it's often hard to find standout dishes, but the house-smoked carrot sandwich was a symphony in my mouth. The chai tea latte? Incredible. They brew their own chai -- no syrup shortcuts here. My wife had the waffles, and judging by the empty plate, they were a clear winner. In the morning, a custom-crafted bag was waiting for us on the door -- filled with the New York Times, thermoses of hot water for tea and coffee, and everything else we could need: utensils, creams, sugars, the works. It was such a thoughtful touch. And the fireplace? The icing on the cake. We sat beneath dim lighting, sipping tea in front of the fire -- just beautiful. But here's the part that truly stayed with us: The Maker captured time. It didn't just look good -- it felt good. We felt like we were stepping into a perfectly curated space that had soul, not just staged furniture. This wasn't just a place to stay -- it was an experience. A feeling. A memory. Very disappointing experience at the bar. The staff was surprisingly rude and condescending to our group, even though we had just finished dinner at the hotel. We were told we couldn't sit at the bar after our meal because we didn't have a reservation -- something we were never informed about beforehand. Overall, not worth the time or money. I have made mistakes. While in Hudson NY I did not go inside. If I had, it would have revealed a really exceptional decor that photos can even capture. It would have been the understanding that a place can have a mood that instantly both eases and awakens the senses. And I would have had access to the most BRILLIANT (yep all caps because it merits it) corn brulee. I feel sadness having not been here before but it will be a standard stop from now on. read more

What a wonderful day and night we had at The Maker. Travelled with our kids and our 2 bedroom apartment was spectacular. The entire property was just procured so beautifully. This has been one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever encountered. I purchased a perfume from this store, and from the moment I attempted to return it, the staff has been consistently rude, unhelpful, and intentionally delayed refunding my money. It took two weeks after they received the return before I had to follow up with them. Despite presenting themselves as an upscale, luxurious brand, their subpar customer service reveals they fall far short of the high standards they claim to uphold. read more

This hotel is a literal transition into opulence and history. From the outside The Maker Hotel resembles your standard 3 story frame house with a commercial space on the ground floor. We walked into this buzzing restaurant with several patrons having what seemed to be a great time. We were quickly helped by the concierge, who has a small check-in area beyond the restaurant. They informed us our room came with parking and were directed to the parking lot with our assigned parking spot. Through the door that lead from the restaurant to the hotel area is a complete transition. One flight up we arrived to our breathtaking 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom suite with with an oversized living room, kitchenette with sink, fridge and even a dining table plus a little study area with desk, lamp and chair. The artwork in the suite is not only original but very noteworthy. Someone took time, research, and a whole lot of financial investment to make this place what it is. The master suite even have a small lockable cabinet from France 1790, I know this because the in-room iPad has an "about your suite" section that describes and explains all the artwork, linen and furniture throughout the suite. I was intrigued! Super comfortable king size bed with en-suite bathroom in one of the rooms. Closets with sensor lighting so they shut off when you close the door. All lights in the suite are on dimmers so it's super cozy and romantic. Concierge was super responsive and we must've called on them ten times during our weekend stay, and each time they showed up in record timing with a smile (wearing a mask but you can tell by the eyes :)). The guest only lounge has two fireplaces and a library's worth book collection. Off the lounge is a small restaurant for guests of the hotel. That space was so light filled and bright, made of steel and glass like the perfect sunroom. Thoroughly enjoyed our weekend getaway in Hudson Valley, even if it kinda felt like being back in Brooklyn (so many hipsters!) haha. read more

What a lovely renovation - we spent three nights at The Maker in November and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Architect suite. The bed was really comfortable, the blackout drapes completely darkened the room, and the shower on the non-rain shower side was really powerful. We used the fireplace all three nights; it quickly warms the room. Room lighting was on the dimmer side due to use of the Edison type light bulbs. Not a big deal if you do most of your reading on an electronic device. Coffee delivered to our room in the morning was a nice touch. The library has a great selection of books which we were told had been curated by The Strand. The sure to check out the lounge - it's a stunning space. Other guests and hotel personnel were really good about social distancing and mask use. The Maker is a short walk from the train station, so a very easy getaway from NYC. read more

This hotel has hipster vibes but it was cool. There aren't a ton of rooms and the whole place has a vintage vibe. No tv's in the room but they give you an ipad to watch netflix. Wish there were more lights in the room. The bed wasn't the most comfortable but I still slept. The staff were pleasant. They give you a newspaper in the morning and tea twice a day. Plenty to do in the hotel and so many good dining options in Hudson. Most places close early in Hudson NY just an fyi. Glad we checked it out. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Maker Hotel over MLK weekend to celebrate my birthday. contrary to what online reviews may say, we do not have one single complaint about our stay. From the minute we arrived on the premises to the time of checkout, the service provided to us was impeccable! We were welcomed with a glass of bubbles and immediately brought into the library to unwind. John was great in consulting with us on our preferences for coffee in the morning and tea during the evening turndown. The entire staff was super friendly and went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable. Even on the day we were checking out, the staff was kind enough to brush the snow off our car. Our room was cozy and clean. The lounge area was a perfect place to stay warm and enjoy the perfume-themed cocktails. The dining experience was second to none. Both my husband and I are very much into perfumery/fragrances. It was great to be able to test out all the Maker fragrances over the course of the weekend. They are all great in their own right, making it hard to choose which fragrance(s) to buy. We had an amazing stay! read more

The hotel and the Gardner suite are spectacular! Everything in the hotel and rooms is well thought out! The bed is comfortable and having a fireplace in the room is amazing! The cafe has delicious breakfast and dinner. I wanted so bad to give this place 5 stars but they dropped the ball on a few things. 1. Every room has assigned parking but unfortunately if someone else parks in your spot (clearly labeled) your out of luck. After alerting the front desk someone was in our spot we got a shoulder shrug and a sorry people don't read the signs. So we had to park 4 blocks away in the freezing cold. 2. The restaurant is completely booked but again John from the front desk told us not to worry he could get us in as guests take priority. Again never heard back from them until we complained and only then did they say we can get you in at 8:15 but we were already at dinner. So all in all great experience but after spending $700 per night for two nights I probably would not stay here again. read more

In terms of design, every detail seems to have been considered and the heated bathroom floor in the Corner Studio was a great touch. My family recently had a two night stay at The Maker Hotel. My rating is based on a mix of wonderful and disappointing experiences during our stay. On the bright side, the hotel inside is stunning with spacious rooms decorated with art work, beautiful furniture and colorful carpets. Each room has a different motif, as pointed out more thoroughly in Architectural Digest magazine. We chose to stay in "The Apartment", a lovely two bed, two bath suite with a large sitting and dining area. It was beautifully furnished, and the size of a small condo. An eye opener coffee, tea and biscotti with the NYT was placed at our door each morning, and chocolates were delivered with a turn- down service each night. Also, the food in the hotel restaurant was fabulous, and the service impeccable. There were several large rooms where guests could dine, ranging from the cafe dining area, the lounge, and the conservatory. It was a spectacular culinary experience both for the palate and the soul. The food servers were helpful and efficient. So this sounds like 'heaven on earth". There is a catch, however. For the extremely high room rate, one would expect to be able to get a peaceful night's sleep. Unfortunately this was not the case for two reasons: 1) Several of the rooms are positioned along side a major truck route at the corner of 3rd street and Warren street, and 2) The utility company chose the two nights we stayed there to dig up the street to replace aging gas lines. The combination of trucks passing by our windows throughout the night and concrete jack-hammering of the street early in the morning caused sleepless nights. We appealed to the management for a partial credit to compensate our sleepless nights and were granted a free breakfast instead. This was a nice gesture, however with the price of what we paid for the room, the free breakfast was insignificant. The hotel management stated that they were responsible only for the inside of the hotel, but not for the outside, so would not accommodate us for the noise. But how about placing rooms directly on a truck route, and not notifying guests in these rooms in advance that they would both hear and feel vibrations from large trucks driving by, and stopping at the light near our window? Well, we had no idea that a $900-$1300 per night hotel would be built on a truck route. As we departed quite fatigued, we were encouraged to revisit the hotel and stay in a room on the other side of the premises that was not on the truck route where we were guaranteed a peaceful night's sleep. In summary, The Maker is a beautiful, clean, artsy, unique and very spacious hotel with wonderful food and a hospitable staff. It offers a truly unique experience. However, if you know in advance that truck noise throughout the night will keep you awake, I advise that you ask for a room away from the truck route or choose another hotel. One final comment on location: Why would the owners choose to build an outstanding hotel in such a noisy location? If they don't know that this is the case, I hope that they will read this review and find out. read more

On a whim we decided to stay at The Marker Hotel and we were pleasantly surprised! The staff, food, and ambiance have been spot on! We stayed in both the Writer room as well as the Architect room and both have been clean and stunning. The vibes are unique and this hotel is located in the best area. Just walking distance to great shops, resturants, and cafes. We would love to come back and couldn't recommend this hotel more! read more

Tried several times to book a few days here because a few days is the most we can get away, but very frustrated and disappointed to find that I am unable to book a weekend here because there is a 3 night minimum stay for weekends (yes, you read that right, a weekend, which when I last checked was 2 days, Saturday and Sunday, requires a 3 night minimum stay?!) Try wrapping your head around that. For weekdays it gets even worse, a 3 night minimum for weekdays. The Wake which was 3 blocks away was much more accommodating and much less obnoxious. We were really looking forward to making this our get away place for a few days when we could but they make it impossible for people with busy schedules. Sad. read more

Loved our stay, with the hotel having a bit of everything! Charming with a bohemian vibe, the hotel offers such great variety of ways to relax within its walls that we could have spent a week inside without leaving. Entering to a cafe open to the community, we were welcomed to a side room straight from the 19th century with big, comfy couches and offered a glass of bubbly as we checked in. Off to the side was a private library for guests, along with a solarium where we enjoyed breakfast each morning. Around the back, the pool and patio were an oasis by day while the secluded bar made for a great spot to hide out in the evenings. The rooms themselves were very comfortable; televisions were replaced by in-room iPads loaded with streaming options, though we found ourselves only playing music through the excellent sound system, tuning into the house radio channel (a very on-brand mix of jazz and standards!) The food and service were also great, and made the stay very enjoyable. We'd go out of our way to return! read more

I can't say enough nice things about the staff who go above and beyond to help guests during their stay. 5 stars for the hotel and two stars for the restaurant. We dined on a Saturday a few weeks ago fairly early and the restaurant was already out of a few things on the menu. There were plenty of open tables and they seemed to be a bit disorganized and understaffed. Perhaps this was due to reopening after Covid. There were lots of glasses and unused things left on the table that should have been removed. For the price of the food I expected excellence. Perhaps they could have scaled down the menu if they weren't able to fulfill to the fullest. Unfortunately the food was mediocre. The dessert was exceptional. I will try a second time and hope for a better dining experience. read more

A gorgeous and meticulously decorated small/boutique hotel. Staff is very professional and also friendly. Parking is super easy and convenient. The entire property is stunningly beautiful and the cafe/bakery are top notch. Reason for 4 stars is that the common areas(not the restaurant) and my room were so poorly lit. The room was so dark and proper lighting non existent. We chose a smaller room because the larger units are extremely expensive but there is no way you can unpack because there is nowhere to put your clothes or an empty travel bag. We had to lay out our bags in front of the entry to room & walk over/around them. Not in a huge rush to go back to Hudson, but if necessary we'd try the Hudson again. read more

We had the best time at the Maker! Stephen, the bartender was so sweet and made the most delicious drinks. Our favorites were the naked and famous and mezcal margaritas. Then Bobby was super helpful when we moved for dinner at the cafe. He advised us to get the chicken pot pie and it was delicious! Shelby and Benjamin were so helpful over in the cafe and made sure we always had drinks and great food recommendations! We will definitely be back to visit The Maker! My girlfriend and I were excited to book a stay at the hotel. Upon walking into the hotel we were stopped and asked what we were doing there. We said we were interested in booking a room at the hotel. Rather than show us around or offer us a place to buy a drink or tell us more about the hotel they told us no one was allowed in this area. They instructed us to go outside and after 4pm we could maybe get a drink in the outside courtyard if it wasn't too cold outside. It was 40 degrees. Terrible attitudes. Lack of any customer service. Word gets around pretty fast and as I've seen from reviews this place is already gaining a reputation for awful customer service. read more

I have stopped coming to the Cafe here. Every single time I come I am met with the most terrible service. Sat at a table and forgotten about. I always have to flag down staff to get any kind of service. The staff change frequently and always look miserable and frequently avoid eye contact with customers. I just watched a table of 4 people wait 15 minutes for the check! I have never had an apology despite politely pointing out to the staff that I've had no service or that they have delivered the wrong menu item . This is my first Yelp review in years. read more
