Wow! I'm definitely staying here again. Vibe: Um, these folks thought of it all. The design of the entire space was excellent. It was simple and almost felt like a cozy Scandinavian cottage. Down to the ceramic toilet paper holder and fancy light switches, everything was beautiful. Oh, and definitely have a drink in the lobby and enjoy the two fireplaces. Staff: All very nice! And on it. There was always hot coffee in the morning and all the milks one might need. Cleanliness: Super clean! Amazing, cozy stay at RTL. Warm staff, boutique decor with thoughtfully designed rooms & essential amenities. The room beds are a bit small but not uncomfortable. Overall vibes are chill. Brunch was nice too - a concise yet interesting, inclusive menu of unconventional dishes. Hotel is right at the end of Warren street with ample parking making it convenient to walk, dine, shop & return in no time. The lobby is open till midnight which is also better compared to other small town lodges that typically close at 9-10. While RTL maybe listed as a 2-star hotel, it's still an expensive option. However, it doesn't compromise on your experience & I'd recommend a stay here when in Hudson. read more

The people at the front desk were so nice, helpful and professional. The main lobby is welcoming and comfortable to hang out in. Loved the decor all around and that many things had been thought out for the guests. We were on a road trip and just stumbled upon it, but wish we could have stayed more than 1 night. We also were traveling with a 42 lb. dog, and it was roomy enough for her bed and for us. No tripping over furniture and they had places to put your bags, etc. Everything was clean and felt new. We arrived for a quick brunch for outside seating. we had a server for the first 10 minutes of the experience. The four of us ordered the chicken hash dish, and when all of our plates came out, there was barely any chicken at all in the dish. We thought it was absurd. Our server then went missing and we sat there waiting for someone to check in on us. Finally another server came by and we were able to leave after waiting for 20 min. Such a pleasant experience! The lodge was very clean and modern. The staff was very welcoming. The bedsheets were super soft (the bed does make noise when moved. I'll let you do what you want with that information) hehe. There was an error made with our dinner reservation and they were beyond accommodating. We were still able to be seated and the food was great! We really enjoyed the crudo, ribs, steak, and dessert. I'd like to say thank you to Valerie for being extremely patient with us. My boyfriend and I didn't set an alarm and ended up sleeping past checkout. I have a small case of PTSD with late checkout issues and she definitely made up for past experiences. On top of that, she helped me with some printing I had to while I was checking out which was very helpful considering I slept in and was on a time crunch. In a world where everyone is short staffed and customer service seems to be a dying art form, Valerie definitely gave me hope and put my day off to a great start. It was our first time in Hudson and if we return (probably for some furniture shopping) we'll definitely look forward to staying here again. read more

Review is for the restaurant only. A delightfully cozy spot, tucked behind the main lobby of Rivertown Lodge. Though technically called the Tavern (and it does feel more like a bar than a restaurant), the food here is anything but typical pub fare. Easily one of the best meals I've had in Hudson. A great venue for a jolly friends dinner or for date night. A rather small space (especially compared to most other establishments on Warren St.) so you'll want to email for a reservation to be safe. And if you're just going for drinks, the cocktails are creative and the wine pours are generous. A wonderful addition to the Hudson scene, far more than just your average hotel restaurant. The bf and I were in Hudson for our three-year anniversary so we needed a spot that fit the occasion. It was our second time visiting, so I wanted to make sure we found something new. Though Fish and Game might be more suitable to some, I wanted to make sure we were getting our money's worth, so I opted for the new guy in town. The Tavern only takes reservations via email, so I reached out a few weeks prior. It's a deceptively small space, so I highly recommend calling or emailing if you want to secure a table. We came in at around 8:30pm on Sunday night and the place was pretty full. Mostly couples with one large birthday table in back. Much celebration to be had! Our hostess/server offered us a choice between two tables and we opted for one in the center of the space, with a nice view of the bar and the other parties inside. The service overall was great (elaboration to come)--our server was as accommodating and friendly as they come. Sad to say I can't remember her name but she had great energy and helped to make our night special. I'll start with drinks first. The drink menu isn't online, so I'll do my best to recount what we tried. The list of cocktails is short but formidable, a couple of very original drinks on there. Between the two of us, I think we tried all but one of them. I tried an apple brandy/campari/black pepper shrub drink first, which was funky/different but still delicious. Never seen anything like it. I also tried a rye/turmeric drink which wasn't quite as noteworthy but still solid. As for the wine, the options are all of the organic/biodynamic/skin contact varieties--very on-brand for Hudson. Though all pretty unusual, the wines manage to pair very well with the food. I tried a skin contact wine for the first time here, and it was delicious. And as I mentioned, they give you a good pour here. So be careful! Food-wise, it's hard to go wrong. I'd say virtually everything is local, seasonal, organic, all of that good stuff. As fresh as it gets, particularly the veggies. When things are farmed correctly and with care, even simple preparations can be outstanding. Such was the case at the Tavern. We tried a variety of dishes, all excellent. Our eats, below: Spring Veg, Wood Sorrel Aioli: A So simple yet so magical. Veggies served raw, seems like they came straight from the farm and were plopped on our plate. As fresh as they come. The aioli was light but still flavorful, a fantastic accompaniment. Some of the best endive I've ever had. Duck Confit, Preserved Citrus, Chile Honey: A+ A total 180 from the previous dish but just as amazing, if not more so. Perfectly cooked, super flavorful, the skin a thing of the deities. Served piping hot, juicy and rich, all you'd hope for with a dish like this. Scallop Crudo, Kumquat: A- For whatever reason scallops don't agree with me but I took one for the team because the bf loves them. I enjoy the taste, I just know I'll pay for it later. Light and fresh, the scallop paired beautifully with the kumquat, a new pairing for me and one I appreciated mucho. Blackened Carrot, Turnips, Cultured Cream: A Rich and earthy, topped/doused with fresh herbs. Typically I think that's a bit extra, but in this case I quite literally ate up the opportunity to revel in the freshly-picked, local verdure. The turnips were yummy too, and the cream balanced out the flavor/texture profile nicely. Striped Bass, White Asparagus, Spring Onions: A Well-cooked, solid piece of fish, crispy skin and all. And oh how I love when white asparagus is in season! A beautiful entree, sophisticated and tasty. The night was already a resounding success, but it ended on an even better note. Free stuff! The bartender offered us drinks on the house, either because it was our anniversary or that we were one of the last parties standing. I went with the Bees Knees and I ordered my bf a rum-based bartender's choice. Both were fantastic, as expected. I ended up chatting with the bartender for a while and she was quite familiar with the NYC bar scene. Just as lovely as our server and abundantly knowledgable. Completely dog friendly and really welcoming to our pup. Michael and the entire staff were courteous, attentive, and made sure our stay was fun. There are great restaurants for take out or outdoor dining with the dog. Michael even drove us to the train station when we couldn't find a car! Our incoming trip was greeted with a snow storm and the front staff was so helpful booking our room a day early and offering us a discount for the last minute hassle. The grounds and rooms are immaculate and look straight out of crate and barrel or west elm!! Very basic rooms (I would've loved a box of tissues and some lotion in the rooms) but there were little luxuries as well i.e. plush brook linen towels! The food was outstanding for both brunch and dinner- so happy we tried both. The staff was all very welcoming and friendly. Walking distance to almost everything in town. Wonderful boutique hotel in Hudson with Instagram worthy Scandinavian influenced decor. They recently also opened a restaurant that serves small bites new American fare. My main complaint is about their snack pantry. There's no room service or 24/hr food availability so they have the pantry for anyone craving a late night bite. Issue here is that the options aren't great - cookies, pita chips and granola mostly and the prices of the items were quite exorbitant. I did really appreciate the in-room access to not only cable channels but also Netflix, Amazon and Hulu for maximum vegging out. read more

I rarely give poor reviews (or reviews at all), but this experience deemed worthy. I visited Rivertown Lodge with my boyfriend during a much needed COVID- friendly weekend getaway. Some friends of ours raved about their breakfast menu and the chic decor, so we were very excited to visit the highly acclaimed restaurant/hotel. Needless to say, the experience was extremely underwhelming. We sat ourselves down at a table, after paying for our $$$ two entree meal with $5 homemade ciders, and waited about 45 minutes for the food to arrive. The waitress handed us our food with no utensils (understandably), my boyfriend receiving a well proportioned plate of ribs and me receiving a blush colored cut up chicken breast. I know raw has become a sought after trend, especially in this part of NY, but raw chicken is a call for the health bureau. I kindly asked the waiters to take the chicken back and recook it because it's inedible. They did so without hassle, but claimed that the chicken is set on a timer so it should be thoroughly cooked, nonetheless they took the chicken anyway. I may not be a chef, but I do understand that all chicken is not made the same and therefore can not be cooked the same. About ten minutes passed before another server handed me my still very PINK chicken. I'm not sure if this staff is full of vegetarians, but I'm not sure how anyone could think it's okay to serve undercooked chicken. Especially with COVID happening, shame on me for wanting to eat out during COVID, but I'd assume that restaurants would want to try their best to kill any bacteria that can be hidden within food. Now, the last part is what drove me to write this review. No one came back to us to ask if the food was alright or if I was happy with the chicken. No one. Waiters passed us to check on the guy next to us, but no one came to us personally. My boyfriend and I were so upset, we simply got up and left. No one took up our plates, the hosts didn't even say bye. I never felt so uncomfortable in a setting like this before, and I'm from New York City, where hospitality and phenomenal food service is more than abundant. I was really disgusted by the treatment and will never return. read more

Really loved this place, simply for the ambiance, but food was very well done. Portions are not too big, full of fresh greens, light and delicious. They do an amazing brunch, and are very vegetarian friendly. It was packed on a Sunday morning, and many people brought kids. Many dishes came with toast and creme fresh which they do well. Smoked Trout - beautifully cooked/smoked, with some nice contrast of acid with the beets and pickled onions. Needed some freshly cracked pepper though. Farro dish - was cooked perfectly, with a bit of crunch for a texture difference. My mom and I recently took a road trip through the Hudson Valley and this was her favorite restaurant of the trip (which is really saying something!) The dishes were unique, beautiful and delicious. The dining room was intimate and special. We sat in the corner booth and -- the people watching! --- spectacular. A special shout out to the wonderful bartender (manager?) who had eyes on the whole room and showed amazing service and intuition about providing an amazing experience. Lip Service - crushed ice and a gin/chamomile drink, literally me in a drink form Little Gem, Sherry, Cilantro - a beautifully fresh salad Sourdough Garganelli, Mushroom, Chard - sourdough pasta, what a fucking concept! Vegetable Ash Pappardelle, Cherry Tomato, Nduja - my mom still doesn't understand how they got the ash in the pasta (I do, but we'll let her keep that mystery) Blueberry Sorbet, Hazelnuts, Cardamom - wow I didn't know I needed this The entire concept of this place deserves a round of applause. Spent a night in one of the standard rooms in this adorable boutique hotel. The room was nice and clean with a crisp and inviting interior. The 2note shampoo/cond are awesome. Only cons was a bit of noise from other guests at night and the heater wan't working properly. We came here this morning and did find the quality of our food to be quite good. The breakfast portions were fair for the prices. The outdoor space had heaters which luckily allowed us to sit comfortably in 32' weather. The host appeared some what stressed but she held it together. I could see myself feeling stressed in Covid times having to service people in the frigid cold and indoors. The reason this place gets 4 stars and not 5 is because of the insane 20% operational fee. It's a bit much to then ask for a tip on top of this and since the man I asked about it wasn't sure, I didn't leave additional money. We weren't aware of this before hand and hopefully this actually included a tip. They should probably give you the heads up before you sit down and order. read more

Following a local recommendation, we decided to dine at the hotel's bar restaurant, and it turned out to be a delightful experience. The lobby and bar restaurant areas were exquisitely designed, setting the tone for an enjoyable evening. Our dinner began with a delightful surprise - an excellent whole-wheat sourdough bread, complemented with cultured butter and bee pollen. The bread was perfectly toasted, likely on the grill, striking a wonderful balance of crispiness at the edges and just the right amount of moisture inside. Each bite of this bread felt like a symphony of percussion instruments in our mouths, a rare sensation that demonstrates the restaurant's meticulous attention to details. We indulged in a variety of dishes, and each one surpassed our expectations. The outstandingly superb options included an excellent vegtables salad, shishito peppers with cashew cream, ramp and dukka, steelhead trout crudo (which was simply outstanding, we ordered extra), oyster mushroom (a great choice), wild bluefish (an outstanding surprise), scallops (prepared to perfection), and a perfectly al-dente pasta (absolutely outstanding!!!, we ordered extra). The wine selection is superb. The Pouilly-Fume, Domaine Masson-Blondelet 2019 paired perfectly with the food. For dessert, we were treated to a coconut panna cotta that was quite possibly the best we have ever tasted, and an amazing chocolate ice cream with sour cherries that left us wanting more. The kitchen revealed a team of uniquely talented chef/s/cook/s, hidden from view, skillfully crafting nuanced food. What a gorgeous place! A 50s theater, now converted to be a little hotel with an accompanying restaurant. The 'theater' looks fresh from the outside, and just wait until you enter; thoughtful, minimal design with purpose, earthy tones, perfect music choice, and our server was probably hand-picked - I don't think this place would function without her. She should be the face and voice of this place. Forever. It's a small menu, but packed with fresh goodness. The food we ordered was delicious. Everything was perfectly explained, seasoned, portioned, served. Take note: their bread is freshly baked at the owner's local bakery. The dining room is small, quaint and inviting. Clean. I would probably give this place 3.5 stars if I could for the brunch. Very nice vibe, amazing service and delicious freshly squeezed OJ & mimosas. The food though was solid - I had the poached eggs with greens which ended up being essentially eggs in a sauce with salad (for some reason I imagined cooked greens - something to soak up the sauce..). My partner I think had eggs with sausage which were solid. I don't think I'd come back here for the food but the atmosphere was really nice. read more

I have not stayed at the Lodge so this review is just for the lounge and interior. I liked the design of the lodge. Like an old Motel spruced up with sort of Scandinavian/Mid Century Modern design. I had a glass of wine in the lounge (not bar area as it was closed) there was one my one other person in the lounge when I was there. Very roomy downstairs with nice set up for breakfast. Two nice wood stoves that I'm sure would be really cozy in the winter. Lots of great vintage books. The outdoor area ny the parking lot is awesome. Great design and furnishings. Loved the bikes they have for guests to use. Good location a little away from the center of Warren street. Think it will be awesome in winter. read more

What a lovely addition to Warren Street. The lobby furniture, atmosphere, lighting, and wood stove are all perfect. We got a tour from Wes and were blown away how cool and comfy the rooms are here. The back bar is another hidden gem, the honor bar, and lobby restaurant are amazing. We came for a coffee and realized we had to eat here. Loved the food. I had perfectly cooked eggs, and I mean that, Hudson Valley fresh bacon, fresh squeezed oj, and toast. I wonder if they get their bread across the street from Bonfiglio Bakery because the toast was really tasty. We also had an egg sandwich that made my mouth water, earl grey tea and a capuccino. If more people have the patience, attention to detail, and aesthetic in their buildings here in Hudson then we are in for a wild ride. Light wood in bathroom, loft bed, nice toiletries- Scandinavian look When you are in a back room it is quiet And the shower pressure is great And the loft like bed is comfortable. Stayed and ate dinner here. An excellent experience. The staff was friendly and the vibe was warm and relaxed. While the decor is simple, its very well thought out. Our room was immaculate - super comfortable bed, a heating/cooling unit which worked well and you could control. That bathroom was very cool and I loved the shower products. Only issue was shower pressure was low and it was really hard to get the water the right temperature. But that was the only issue. Other highlights include free coffee and tea in the morning which you can take it to your room. The lobby was also very comfortable with two fire places and lots of seating to hang out as long as you want. In the evening, staff came around and took drink orders of everyone sitting around, which was a nice touch. The dinner we had was also very good. Highly recommend the ragu - delicious and so interesting. Other dishes were good, but that was our favorite by far. Cocktails were also good, but very simple and a small cocktail list. If going on a Saturday night, I would make a reservation as they seemed very busy. I think I'd give the restaurant 4 stars alone, but the overall experience is worthy of 5 stars. read more

We dropped by for brunch on Sunday. The receptionist was too busy listening to his boss, he didn't acknowledge our presence even though we were facing him and he saw us. Not very welcoming for a small place with 8 customers. Then came, the brunch menu, a mini mini menu. The Greek yogurt portion is for a child, or may be a baby. The service was pleasant as the only waitress was doing her best. When we left, no goodbye or thank you from the "boss" behind the counter. May be she needs some customer relations training! Do not sleep on this place. My boyfriend and I came up to Hudson for our anniversary, which unfortunately was on a weekday and this town is pretty quiet during the week. So when we decided to go here for dinner we imagined we'd be the only ones there. We were wrong! This place was poppin' for a Tuesday night. We did not make a reservation but we were still seated quickly in the lobby for dinner (usually I'd be opposed to that but the lodge is so cute we loved it). The next time we're in town I'll be making a reservation so we can sit inside the actual tavern which looked like it had an awesome ambience. The food here is expensive but worth every penny. Every single thing we tried, we were so impressed with. Our two favorite items were the house cured olives and the nettle meadow cheese. Didn't stay in the hotel, but we did stop in midmorning earlier today for brunch. What an ABSOLUTE gem. Beautiful space, so cozy and well appointed. We were greeted by our wonderful server right away; his spidey sense let him know that we needed coffee immediately, so he delivered! Fiancé and I had DELICIOUS FOOD that was served fresh and prompt. Light as air waffle and crispy bacon for me, tasty and inventive brekkie sandwich for him. Our server made one juice too many for a neighboring table, and dropped it off for us to enjoy. It was fresh, green and delicious. When I told our server my birthday was two days prior, he brought a sticky bun and said it was "on the house." What a dreamy spot. We will be back!!! The design is amazing! From the street signage, to the lobby furniture to the lighting fixtures in the room; you can tell that the designer of this hotel had a Scandinavian aesthetic in mind. It is so refreshing to stay in a hotel that takes their design seriously. I would much rather stay in a hotel like this than another chain hotel like a Marriott. Rivertown's design made the stay much more memorable. Granted, at $275 a night, this is not a cheap place to stay. Service was very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were virtually sound proof and the bed was very comfortable. I would love to come back in the summer for another stay. My only gripe is that their website is very bare bones, I wish they had some more info on the rooms or availability of the rooms. read more

We went during Halloween weekend, so there was a huge bowl of candy corn at the bar. Unbelievably disappointed in my recent experience here. We spent $500+ dollars on dinner and could not even get sharing plates, utensils, or cups. The servers made a huge deal about us keeping the chairs 6 feet apart and wearing masks when ordering, which was great and appreciated, but then allowed staff to sit just a few inches from us when they were hanging out without masks and off duty. When one of our party members went to go to the bathroom inside, she got lost and stumbled upon the kitchen. One of the cooks was not wearing a mask and apologized when they saw eachother. Then when my friend walked to the bathroom she overheard the kitchen staff yelling saying "why can't they direct people to the bathroom". The restaurant used biodegradable plates (also awesome) but wouldn't give us plates for each person so we could safely share food or even after we had multiple dishes. We ate dessert with the end of a used fork (we took pics, but I won't attach for your own benefit (as you can imagine, eating ice cream with the end of the spoon used to eat crudo was not pretty). Additionally, they charged 20% gratuity (which is the minimum we usually tip), but then asked us to throw out our own plates and asked why we needed more plates or utensils (we were trying to share responsibly). I realize that the restaurant industry is not easy during covid times, but the group of women I was with work in healthcare, wear masks and PPE everyday, and still manage to treat their patients with care. This was the first dinner we all were together, and I was so disappointed in the experience and attitude we were met with. As for the food, the ribs and corn were excellent, but other things weren't memorable (fish, broccolini, crudo, gem salad, and chicken). The chicken was pink in the middle. When we told the waitress, she didn't acknowledge us and told us there was no way it could be under cooked. (We spit it out because we didn't want to get sick). The white wine, which the staff described as having minerality, was described incorrectly and was not drinkable. We did really enjoy the rose, however. The overall vibe was passive aggressive and generally annoyed that we were eating there. For the price of the meal, we couldn't believe the experience we had. We can't give the folks at Rivertown Lodge high enough praise. We booked out the hotel for our October 2019 wedding and they were wonderful. The owners and every staff member we worked with were so kind and thorough. The space is absolutely amazing, and fit our needs perfectly. There are beautiful wrap-around porches that let our guests hang out with one-another in between events, and a cozy lobby with fireplaces for folks to lounge in during down time as well. We really couldn't imagine a more perfect space for a gathering of friends and family than Rivertown. The folks at Rivertown Lodge were also incredibly professional and kind to work with. We had a last-minute panic in which we needed to find a new venue for our welcome dinner 2 weeks before the event due to the unexpected closure of our planned venue. The folks at Rivertown worked with us to find a solution so that we could host our event there, and our guests absolutely loved it! We would highly recommend Rivertown. read more
