I was a first time mom and didn't know of another place that would be so close or affordable. I kept my daughter here, truly for the convenience of distance and price rate. However, many times I would have normal questions I would think a typical parent of a 1-2 year old can have and there were times they didn't have an answer for me. Sometimes they were not willing to accommodate our family needs, yet that's part of what they claim they stand for. Please understand that my daughter was always happy to go there because of her teachers. The teachers do the best they can, but they lack appropriate training and sometimes resources. My biggest issue was with management. From my personal experience, since I am a teacher myself and deal with parents and here management was never the most professional with me as a parent. It really hurt me that we felt pushed out. They wouldn't accommodate my schedule and didn't guarantee me a spot for my daughter. They said they would let me know in advance and never did, which led me to find another school and know about my options, because they wouldn't give me an answer. As far as academics is concerned, my daughter didn't learn much there. They would play all day, hence she was always happy to go. I never saw a real progress in her learning. The administration was never willing to accommodate a family who had already been there for 2 years. They didn't care about losing us and pushed us out. Another issue was that there was no one you can take formal concerns to. They were all extremely close at a personal level and I knew I would not be heard. I would only recommend this place for your child's care if you want them to play all day and you want good rates. But be aware if you are 5 minutes late, you will be charge per half hour. I have to be honest as I never felt my daughter was neglected or in danger, but definitely didn't get the best educational experience there. This place could be a better place for families around BR if they take a better business management approach, which they have lack of.

As a first time parent, I was very nervous sending my daughter to daycare, but the teachers were wonderful with her and so patient and reassuring with me. The directors and staff are also very accommodating of the needs of the parents and are more than willing to work with you if you need help. My daughter has not only been well cared for, but she has also learned so much. The teachers are so caring, compassionate and creative. Weekly lesson plans are sent out so you know the theme of the week and all the activities they will be doing, which range from reading, music, science, sensory bins, practicing fine/gross motor skills, playing pretend, nature walks etc. The activities are just so creative and engaging for the kids. For example, today my daughter made a fire truck cookie using graham crackers, icing and Oreos. They also have someone come in and do a music class with the kids twice a month and yoga twice a month. There are also other additional optional programs offered such as dance, sports, and art. The enrichment activities are amazing, such as having visits from fire fighters, police officers, dentists, Santa as well as the teddy bear clinic, pony rides and at Halloween, a trunk or treat. They even offer a free evening event for families at Christmas time all Polar Express themed, with various activities and pictures with Santa. Summer camp is also incredible with weekly splash days on the playground, princess balls, dinosaur shows, bubble shows, petting zoo and field trips for the older kids. My daughter has picked up so much so quickly, all because of the varied experiences/activities they have provided for her. Whippany KinderCare has turned out to be one of the biggest blessings for our family for so many reasons. One of the things we are so impressed by and pleased with is how much the director (Chelsea) and assistant director (Leah) are involved with all the kids. If we ever have a question, they always are aware of how our daughter is doing because they keep tabs with her teacher on the regular and can answer anything with confidence. Seeing how our daughter was progressing, it was suggested that we move her up a class. We were a little nervous to do this six weeks early but with their support and after being offered to do a trial day, to our surprise everything went amazingly well! Our daughter is learning so much and we already see such an improvement in her language development (both sign and vocal) and other skills like how to use utensils and not throw food at the table. It truly is such a joy to see how much she is growing here. Even now, I still see that many of the recent valedictorians of our Suffolk private high school are Christopher Academy alumni (our high school sends us the graduation mailer every year). Long story short- the curriculum, class size, and amazing teachers here laid a foundation for us all that put us ahead of our peers at our Suffolk private school, college & beyond. This was his first experience at a day care following a big move from the city to the 'burbs. The move was a major transition for our son and he was having a rough time at first. Our Lady of Sorrows were great partners in helping us transition him. I called them almost every day in the beginning. The Director and teachers never showed any signs of getting fed up with me and were very kind. In fact, they started to call me regularly to report on how he was doing and his emotional state. I was so impressed at how they accommodated and understood my concerns. Just 2 months in my child absolutely loves it there and talks about his teachers all the time. Ms. Karlene, the Director, is a joy to work with and she hires good people. I love that they have video-cameras in all the rooms and parents can log-in and watch and even call the rooms directly to speak to the teachers. It takes a lot of confidence and patience with parents for a day-care to be able to do something like that. And of course, they have commuter parking! Huge plus. Keep up the great work, OLS!!
