If you ask to see the policy on an issue they are throwing at you they will tell you that it's not covered in the written policy, then try to make over the phone verbal agreements. Once they see your not someone that will cave in and be walked all over and just let them continue to be dirty crooks they will start playing childish games with you daily. None of the stories match between teachers when they try to inform parents on your child misbehaving. Your child will be suspended for bad behavior but you still have to pay for the days they tell you that your child isn't allowed to attend which once again isn't written in any behavior policy they give you. Some of the teachers at the daycare are amazing and I hate they work for such toxic leadership. But please consider another facility for the sake of you and your child. My child never wanted to go to daycare in the mornings and one visit to another facility is all it took for me to see how much he truly disliked this one. Also my 13 year old niece attended this center when she was a toddler so I felt comfortable. Boy oh boy was I in for a huge disappointment! I don't even know where to begin. After the third month of enrollment, I started looking for a new facility to place my son. It took another 3 months to find somewhere I felt was suitable and we had to wait 2 more months until the fall semester before he could start there. Hence the 8 months stay at gateway. So this place has an incredible staff turn over. In the 8 months my son was there, literally 8 staff members left or quit or were fired. It was unbelievable! Every few weeks we would get an email informing us that miss so and so is no longer with the center and miss xyz will be starting soon. Sure enough as soon as miss xyz started the cycle would repeat. There was one teacher who was there in the mornings when I dropped my son off and she smelled like marijuana. It blew my mind! How the heck do you come to work at 7am with the stench of weed? The facility opens at 6:30 but is never staffed. I usually dropped my son off at 7am and there was only one teacher there. All the kids from all age groups had to stay with her until the other teachers wandered in between 8:30 and 9am. I'm pretty sure thats a state violation. I came to drop my son off one morning and the teacher was sitting in the classroom moisturizing her feet and taking great care to concentrate on her heels. I was grossed out and pissed. She did wash her hands afterwards but I don't feel that this should have been done at the table where the kids eat their meals. When you have a question for one of the teachers the only response you get is 'I don't know mom. I wasn't there this morning. I just came into the class 30 minutes ago.' At one point I just stopped asking. I brought bug spray to be used on my son. Of course it was NEVER applied. He came home every day with huge bumps from insect bites. The next day I would remind the teacher hey there is bug spray and a permission slip for my son, and l would pick him up again with you guessed it.....bug bites. So I started to drop him off with long pants only. If I did put shorts on him I would douse him with spray when I dropped him off. So they boast water play every Friday in the summer. The first official day, I dropped my son off with his swim clothes, and a change of clothes and his shoes in a bag. I come to pick him up early (thank god) because he has an appointment and he's in the class barefoot. Ok so I'm livid. The teacher said to me 'you didn't send a change of clothes or shoes for him.' I said yes. I gave it to the teacher this morning when I dropped him off. And she said " Well I don't start till 9 so I don't know." Ok that's besides the point. If you think I didn't bring a change of clothes and shoes why on earth didn't you call me and say hey mom we need shoes for your baby? Are you that dense? All the while the bag with my son's clothes and shoes were sitting on his cubby! So my sons last day was on Fri August 24th. I go back to gateway on Monday the 27th to pick up the rest of his belongings and the expensive SSS bug spray that they never bothered using on him. The spray is no where to be found. Only the permission slip and bag that held the spray are in the bin. One teacher asks another if she's seen the spray and she replies "its in my bag." I'm thinking it's in a bag with other odds and ends with class room stuff. Well just when I thought this place and the staff couldn't get lower the teacher comes and retrieves the spray from her purse. She said to me she had to put it up or they would throw it out. I take the bottle and it's pretty much empty. I'm wondering why because the spray was never used on my son. I was so pissed and disgusted. When does this place hit bottom? I could go on and on about this place with all the stories I heard from other parents but I guess it wouldn't make a difference. I'm so glad my son is out of there. Today was his fourth day at his new daycare and he's doing so well. If I could give any advice or would be to stay away from gateway.

I always felt comfortable leaving my child there. I've recommend this place to many, many folks. The staff has changed a lot in the past couple years. I've had some experiences with the new staff which have been less than pleasant recently. I had to ask one of the ladies please at least say hello to my son before spouting rules with the expectation of difficult behavior before he even walks in the door. This staff member left my child in, unattended, time out for so long he picked apart the chair she had set him in while she was busy changing diapers and feeding the small ones. She made me pay for the chair. I asked how many children they had thay day. She said 15 with 2 adults who where attending children and one who was stuck at the desk checking people in and out. I should have never went back. But, we had such good experience for so long I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Another staff member in particular, has been rude and disrespectful to both me and my child on more than one occasion before today. I have also observed her yelling at other children from the desk where she takes an unnecessarily long amount of time to check parents out, leaving the children to do what they will. In my experience she has taken 10 or more minutes to check me out while small children are left unattended, only to be yelled out from outside the room to stop doing whatever dangerous thing they are about to do, jump from a high toy or pieces of future, tackle another child, ect. Today she called me to come pick up my son because he was wrestling with another boy and it got out of hand. She admitted she was at the desk while this incident occurred. She also let me know the only other staff members who was there with the, at least 12+ small children, had been busy changing diapers. When I told her I felt the establishment was under staffed and leaving my 6 year old alone with a pile of other children was inappropriate and dangerous she told me "well dont bring him back" then proceeded to YELL at me in front of the children telling me I need to "do some parenting". I believe this woman is ill equipped to work with the public at all let alone small children. She is slow and is in visibly poor health, and appears to be medicated, which understandably makes her grumpy, however the neglect of the children and borderline abusive behavior from this person is not understandable and will not be forgotten. I will not be using this server ever again and neither should you.

As she gets older it has become increasingly difficult to take her out to dinner with us, or even take her along to run errands. So, I found this drop off day care center across the street from Hanes mall which has really worked well for us. We've only used it twice (date nights for Valentine's day, and our anniversary), but we've been extremely pleased with the care our daughter has received. She has not cried either time when we dropped her off, which to me indicates that it is a very child friendly place where kids don't mind being. I'm not sure if it's busier during the earlier hours of the day, but when I dropped her off both times in the evening there were only a couple other children there. So, I decided to put some positive energy out there for this business so that more people use it, and so that (self-servingly), we can continue using it. This is a great place to use if: You work at or near the mall, and/or have a schedule that is not your typical 9:00-5:00, your regular day care is closed on a day that you still have to go to work, you want to run some errands around town and don't want to drag the kids along (I've decided that dragging kids around town borders on child and/or parent abuse depending on how you view the world), or you just want to go out to a nice restaurant with your significant other. The hours are: Monday - Thursday 9 AM - 10 PM Friday - Saturday 9 AM -12 PM The cost is: A one time registration fee of $20 $6/hour (very reasonable) Other info: There is no need to call ahead (but it might help the daycare if you do). You bring the food and snacks.
