Mt Pleasant Cemetery - One creepy tree

Mt Pleasant Cemetery definitely falls under the spooky category. Sometimes spooky is difficult to define, it can be more of a feeling than anything else. But as soon as I started walking around Mt Pleasant I definitely got the spooky feeling. Perhaps it is because of all the old trees. Lots of ancient, twisted, contorted and torturous trees that actually look like they are in pain adds an element of spookiness to the graveyard. There are a wide variety of different monuments, some simple and others more elaborate. Since this is a 19th century cemetery many types of obelisks are present, some small and others much larger. Once of the most striking things about this graveyard is how close it is to the surrounding houses. The stone wall marking the boundary of the cemetery is shared by several houses and some of the graves are almost in people's backyards. Not the oldest and grandest graveyard in Cape Ann but definitely one of the creepiest. It was probably designed as a Victorian park like graveyard but has gotten progressively spookier over the years. But then the Victorians were a creepy bunch anyway.
