I moved into Mount Ridge a little over a month ago and I'm very happy with my decision. The leasing and maintenance staff are top notch and willing to go above and beyond to schedule work orders to fit your schedule. Robin, the assistant manager, was willing to bring maintenance out to install an additional outlet in my kitchen. She was also incredibly kind when I had to keep rescheduling the service because of family emergencies and the need to move my dog. The apartments are very dog friendly. There are plenty of doggie stations through out the community, and residents actually pick up after their pets. The apartments are a bit older, but full of character. The area is pretty safe and parking is never difficult. read more

Scheduled a tour with this apartment leasing agency, came in early to get a feel of the area before my appointment. The staff was not just rude and disrespectful but threw me out of his office using curse words not fit for a prospective customer. I had to cancel my appointment because it does not make logical sense to have to deal with staff with such attitude for the next 12 months. Good luck woth anyone who wishes to pursue a contract relationship with an agency that can afford to have staff who do not have the common courtesyof dealing with the public in a decent respectful manner. read more

Date of posting: October 30, 2023 Have been renting here since 2018. Single mom of two teens. We're quiet and keep to ourselves. Have made 11 calls to the police since February for noise from upstairs neighbors and have complained to upper management so many times. There must be 6+ students from out of the country living above us. Management has done nothing to help the situation and 1/2 hour after I sent my last complaint email (October 23, 2023), I received a notice that they are raising my rent in February by $500.00. Hmmm makes you think. I will say that maintenance is amazing. The tenants upstairs have flooded my apartment twice and maintenance was right on it along with every other ticket I put in since I've been here. They are the saving grace to this community. You can't find that anywhere. Update... I've since been forced to sign another lease with less rent so that I can afford to have a roof over my kids and today I received an email from Tiaja in the office stating that she was just seeing my email (November 1st) and would be able to move me to another unit for less than what I'm paying now in rent. Convenient ey!! I hope the next tenants who move in will be able to tolerate the noise. read more

Update...11/2/23 Received a letter noting that my last day at the complex is 11/30/23 and it came along with an EXTENSIVE list of to do's (Move-out Preparation Sheet). Included a line that said "Contact BGE to remove service from your name on 2/15/23." Ummm... why am I paying for BGE for two extra months? Not happening. I can't afford my rent let alone two extra months so someone else can enjoy me paying for their BGE. read more

If you enjoy the idea of having to fight and sweep up every type of bug in the world , or when your neighbor takes a shower, all of their shower water recedes into your bathtub, then this is the perfect place for you. Not to mention the uneven floors in the unit that will periodically vibrate bc of the major septic problem that maintenance continues to "patch up"..let's also mention how the cult of mice will storm in & roam your apartment, as If their name is on the lease. HEATING / AC goes out every year when the seasons change ( you cant have all theee units on at the same time, as it would cause a fuse to blow ... )MOLD is an issue ( I have never experienced YEAR ROUND ALLERGIES until living here) leaking ceilings that have been PLASTERD over.. (see pictures below of the piece of plaster that fell ontop of my head in the living room) Fun fact, if you live on the first floor..you can pull the corners of your carpet back & you will be able to see the basement . See pictures below. $1500 a month for appliances that were purchaed from MONTGOMERY WARD IN THE EARLY 70'S..no washer, dryer or dishwasher is insane, as the rent went up $60 dollars. a mouse as your butler is not favorable, especially when you are promised that they complete weekly inspections (bs). SCALDING hot water that works periodically , did I mention MICE? Mrs. DEB in the rental office is very very sweet & helpful .. saptre is as well..however, I will reserve all comments about other staff & maintenance..The apartments shown online are NOT the apartments that you are shown once you arrive on property to complete a tour.. so, this is about the security deposit process and what they don't tell you. first, the front office people who you deal with are super nice . never had an issue and even the maintenance people were great. this is about corporate policies . when you check out you are told it might be up to 45 days to get your deposit back. seems quite excessive. free money I guess. then, they don't do a walk through with you. they do it alone later . why? covid. such hogwash. but then really why? well, I had a pet and they say they found urine and had to throw out the carpet and sanitize everything. I get a poorly written accounting letter that basically said they are keeping my entire deposit and I owe them more . this is so easily abused and one sided all I can say is it is unreasonable. especially after paying a pet fee of $25 per month. buyer beware. they have your money, they can do what we they want . and do. read more

Mount Ridge is a cozy, safe, and convenient place to live. It's right next to Giant Food, down the street from UMBC, and just 12 minutes from downtown Baltimore. The neighborhood is quiet, and the neighbors are respectable. Bethany, Deb, and the others in the leasing office are fantastic! They have always made me feel right at home. If there is a concern, the address it. If there is an issue they fix it. I look forward to the Mount Ridge Summer BBQs and picnics that they have from time to time as well. I'm beginning my third leasing term with them this year! Awful place to live. The walls are so thing I can hear my neighbors yawning. Yawning !!! There are cock roaches all the time outside. Parking is a nightmare. The maintenance people will bang on your door at any time any day ! With no given notice !! I had requested a new phone jack put into our apartment over two months ago and they still haven't installed one ! No washer or dryer is a nightmare. It's so expensive to live here when in reality the building design is so cheap and makes no sense. It feels like a cheap funeral home. The kitchen appliances are a complete joke. Want to use the oven ? Hope the pilot lights for you ! I would never recommend anyone to live here. Save your energy. Your money is more valuable than this ! read more

After reading the first reviewer's comments I figured I would add my own opinion to solidify her experience. Everything she is saying is TRUE. I lived at Mount Ridge because it was affordable while going to UMBC (the college nearby). If you are thinking about living there...DON'T. One word: MICE. What made all of these mice problems so upsetting was the lack of proper solutions orchestrated by the office and maintenance staff. In the two years that I lived there my roommate and I would go and discuss these issues with the office staff several times. One time we were made to feel like we are the only ones in the apartment complex with these issues. We were told to keep it clean. Another time we were told that Mount Ridge is in Baltimore, which in GENERAL has a pest issue. I've lived in Baltimore ALL MY LIFE without sharing an apartment with SEVERAL mice. Their major solution to the problem was laying mice traps (I could have done that!) or "bombing" the basement where the mice were coming from. NEITHER of these solutions were effective. In the two years we lived there we only killed 2 mice with traps and with the bombings happened every month we saw no difference in mice activity. The rest of the time it was just cleaning up after them...because yes, you will see mouse droppings EVERYWHERE. Lastly, the mice are not isolated in one area: we saw them in our bedrooms, kitchen, living room, and the bathroom DAILY. DO. NOT. LIVE. HERE. Mountridge Takes Advantage of College Students If you were considering moving out of your dorm or closer to school, do not move to Mountridge Apartments. I've lived here for two years and have found that they make every excuse to get as much money out of students as possible while providing poor poor poor customer service and legally cutting corners. Mountridge is -infested with rodents and other critters -yet is one of the most expensive apartments near UMBC -has bad incompetent management -does not care less about the residents Examples Rodents In Baltimore county it is illegal to rent out any residence which has rodents. If rodents are found by the renters the landlord has 30 days to remove them. If not, the tenants can withhold their rent to the court. We have had mice for months and Mountridge has failed to remove them which wouldn't be so bad except...... When it came time to renew the lease they made us an offer that was $100 higher than we had paid the previous year. I went into the leasing office to address this and the manager said that she could lower it by only raising our rent by $86, a whopping $14 discount. The mice population has still failed to be reduced to zero. We have so many running around on our floor that I've been able to snap pictures of them. I'm not doctor but I have an inkling that mice are the cause of a healthy, athletic, 22 year old who normally doesn't get sic, getting sic 6 times this year. We've also found bees and cockroaches on a regular basis High prices + hidden fees Despite being infested with mice and other critters Mountridge is still one of the most expensive places you can live near UMBC. We all think we're getting a good deal because it's still much cheaper than living on campus but looking at comparable apartments that's not the case. If you're willing to look 10 more minutes away from campus you can pick through many many apartments with much more space, zero mice, more amenities AND less money. Now let's talk about hidden fees. On top of the rent you will be paying, Mountridge charges you - monthly fees which vary from month to month. Usually they don't go over $50. -$250 lease amendment every time someone moves in or out (convenient for Mountridge since they're near a college) -high security deposit $600+ (which I've heard they rarely give back to you even if you didn't do any damage to the apartment) At first glance this seems like it could be normal but asking around It really isn't. Up in Owings mills I have friends who's security deposits have only ever averaged to $300 and their jaws dropped hearing about our $700 one. The jaws dropped further because they'd never had apartments which charged such a high fee for amending the lease. It's possible that the area, credit, cosigners etc. could have an effect on this but I'm not convinced, not when Mountridge is giving people a hard time about getting their security deposits back and stands to make money whenever people move in and out (and college students move a lot) Poor Poor Poor Customer Service/ Incompetent Management You would think that the manager of a leasing office would be competent at math....nope When switching out people on the lease you need to make sure you qualify with your income. My roommate and I brought in our offer letters with our hourly rates and hours per week so the manager could see how much we would be bringing in a month. The manager could not do 40hours/week*4weeks/month*$/hour to find our monthly income. She continued to say that she didn't know how to calculate pay that wasn't in a bi-weekly form. After fumbling with with calculation for 10 minutes she had to bring one of her coworkers over who then told her to do 40*4*$/hour like I had said many times. It is not a surprise that we have had issues with checks and money orders being lost in the past (and of course the leasing office tells us that we didn't turn them in making us waste more time printing out bank statements and cancelling checks) Beyond that, I'm convinced that they try to play people and tell untruths to get them to stay and rent for another year. For example, I had gone into the leasing office when it was time to renew and gave a letter in writing and signed that we will not be renewing for another year. A couple weeks later, one of our other roommates who was looking to take over the apartment for the next year went in to ask some questions. They told her that they were still expecting us to renew for the next year and that they wouldn't hold the apartment for her if we didn't. This I found was a bunch of horse crap because after asking some more questions I learned that they have to hold the apartment so long as she and the new people have their security deposit down. Funny how they would scare her like that.... I can go on and on about how they still fined us for paying our rent on time or how they destroyed our neighbors piano but I"m out of characters on yelp. read more

Please do not be fooled by the images on the website. If you are already kind of strapped for cash, this is not the place to live as you will spend more trying to be proactive about every day living accommodations as the leasing office shirk their responsibilities. If you are a student trying to find somewhere on the UMBC shuttle line, a dozen other issues will mar the benefit of the proximity. The pre-war buildings provide no insulation. When they updated to "energy efficient" windowpanes, the office distributed flyers with only 24 hrs notice to move all our furniture to the middle of the room to not come for over a week. If a tenant in your building moves out, expect to be awoken at 7-8 AM every day, including the weekend, as construction and carpeters will arrive for 3+ weeks and leave the front door open for you to wake to the literal elements, as you wonder if you are camping in the wilderness. If you are sensitive to smells, anticipate that the office will not bother filing your complaint for second-hand smoke. If you need to be awake past 10 pm, anticipate having your neighbors call the police for a noise complaint before the leasing office takes action. You will not be able to see your apartment before signing the lease, so prepare for it to not be in the condition described. They will not redraft the lease to accommodate the price difference, so you're paying hardwood floor prices for carpet that has pretty much just been laid to hide the smell of the complex's dead mice--and there are many. Maintenance will give you two mice traps, and the leasing office will placate you with the lie that the exterminators only come out once a week, even though they don't come by unless every single tenant in the building makes a request. The post-war vents are not boarded up, so maintenance will literally stuff steel wool in gaps rather than caulk it up. The laundry facilities are supremely limited, with only a dozen machines from over a decade ago that only fade your clothes and impress the scent of mold into your fabrics. Because they are so few and small, you will pretty much pay $10 if you have more than a single load of laundry. Concerned about security? You're on your own. In the three years I've been here, my neighbors have had rocks thrown through their windows, which the office cited as a personal conflict and refused to pay for. When someone's home was forcibly robbed, the leasing office distributed a flyer suggesting that you not open your front door. There are no locks on the front door of each apartment. You will be charged if you request an additional lock be put on your door--once when they install it, and again when you move out, as it is considered a cosmetic alteration. There are fake cameras on each front door to act as a "visual deterrent", but they are obviously not connected to anything. Additionally, there are solicitors that visit bi-weekly in attempts to steal your electricity bill to add their third-party fees. Lastly, the leasing office experiences turn-over at the rate of seasonal retail employees. They are often un-trained and give you the blanket answer that you should submit a request/ complaint in writing so that they can forward it to the property manager, who is just as new, uninformed, and unhelpful as every other person in the office. Saw the review about mice and had to comment. Not sure about all units, but I'm on Garden Ridge Rd and haven't had any pest issues. The appliances in my place are pretty retro, and the walls are thin, but otherwise you can't beat the proximity to UMBC, area, landscape, and price. It's a little slice of the Third World right in the middle of beautiful Catonsville. Move here and you'll find: - Filthy sewer water that backs up into your kitchen and bathroom drains. Call for maintenance? They'll come and put some sort of organic drain cleaner in and call it fixed. - Mice, mice, mice. And more mice. - Antique gas ranges with pilot lights, burners that do not work, and oven temperatures that bear no relation to reality. Be prepared to order in dinner a lot. - Postwar kitchen cabinets that don't look a thing like the ones in the model. - Noise. Lots of it. All noise, all the time. This may be OK if you're a student. It's not so great if you have to work for a living. - Upheavals. Every time they decide to catch up on some of their pitifully deferred maintenance, you'll receive a notice to move all your belongings out into the middle of each room. And they'll stay that way for two or three weeks as you wait for them to get around to your unit. It's happened four times over the past three years: New windows, repairs to the bathroom, new a/c units, and new bathroom outlets that were actually never installed. - Towing. They take advantage of the upheavals to park gigantic trucks and trailers in the parking lots, then tow tenants' cars for being improperly parked. Four words of advice: Run like a bunny. They like to be known for their economical rents, but it really is no cheaper to live here than it is to live in a better maintained, quieter community. read more

these positive reviews are FAKE!! this place is a nightmare, the apt's are outdated, the pest issue is unbearable, and the office manager is cruella. I used to live hear just for the school, but this place is comparable to living in a box in a New York subway, there are mice, roaches and bugs of all sorts, my neighbors would go at it all the time and you can hear everything, when you complain to the property manager and tell her these conditions are unbearable and unlivable she told me I would have to deal with it until my lease is up or pay them thousands to break my lease. I left the premises for the safety of my health and my child's health and let them keep my security deposit, now close to a year later they are sending me to collections for almost 3K!! do not move here, there are tons of other places to live with good schools just have patience and search for your own sanity. if you insist on moving here please only do a 6 months lease and I guarantee you will not renew your lease with these slumlords,. I really enjoy this place. YES, it's older but that should not be a surprise when you move in. There are going to be older appliances and patches on the wall but I enjoy the location, I feel safe in the neighborhood, I feel safe parking late at night, and if I call maintenance they are quick. I can see people having some issues with the condition but when you take a tour before signing you can see exactly what you're getting. I'm on the bottom floor and I don't have problems with flooding or anything. Yes, I've seen a mouse, big deal. I caught and released and moved on, again they are older apartments. I still wouldn't move away. The office is always really nice, sometimes call just to check up. When we resigned are lease we had an option to get our carpet cleaned or blinds replaced for free as a gift. Take a look. read more

Mount Ridge Apartment complex has very old and poorly built apartments. The walls are so thin you can hear what the neighbors are doing in their apartments. There are no dishwashers in the apartments. The apartments are infested with mice. The laundry is two blocks away. The heater in our apartments stopped working this December and they have not fixed it as now. They don't care if you freeze to death. They only care about collecting the rent. The leasing office management has very poor customer service. Specially, Bethany, whenever we call the leasing office to get an update on our heater, all she does is talk and talk. She does not even listen what we had to say. The worst part is when we ask for some kind of reimbursements for dealing with the heater, her answer was "You are not paralyzed". The people who work in the leasing office are very unprofessional and rude, they have poor customer service. I don't even know where they got these people. They have poor relations with tenants. So stay away from this place. Living situation in the third world country is better than living in this apartment. read more
