This hospital failed me -- not just clinically, but systemically. And unless you are prepared to advocate HARD for yourself every step of the way, you may find yourself gaslit, dismissed, and unsafe. 1. Unsafe Discharge Pressure & Gaslighting Multiple staff attempted to discharge me while I still had necrotic tissue in my leg. I was in severe pain, had not yet met with infectious disease, and had not been cleared by physical therapy. Yet I was pressured, told I was "medically cleared," and even cornered by staff when I was alone -- no nurse, no attending doctor, just case managers and social workers trying to get me out. My care was being dictated not by medical needs, but by financial convenience. I overheard conversations about me being "here too long," and was told directly that insurance wasn't going to cover anything past a certain point. 2. Disorganized Care Teams, Contradicting Info Every person I spoke to had a different answer. Nurses said I wasn't cleared. PT said I couldn't go home safely. The doctor would say "tomorrow or the next day," while social work insisted I had to leave immediately. I was not medically cleared. My wound vac was still in, I was still a fall risk (bed alarm active), and I had no mobility training or plan in place. I repeatedly expressed that I did not feel safe going home and was told things like: "You don't need your dad here, you're 32 years old." "You're getting upset, that's not helpful." "Just think positive." Every attempt I made to speak up was spun as me being "difficult," when I was simply asking for a consistent, safe, medically sound discharge plan. 3. Neglect of Patient Autonomy & Emotional Manipulation One case manager in particular was unprofessional, condescending, and dismissive. I eventually had to say, "I don't want her assigned to my case anymore." I was no longer willing to speak with her due to the sheer emotional manipulation I experienced. Thankfully, she was replaced -- a silent admission that I wasn't overreacting. Also -- they tried to go around me and call my father behind my back. I'm an adult, fully lucid, and medically sound enough to make my own decisions. And yet, they thought involving my family without consent was acceptable. 4. Minimizing Real Trauma I was in this hospital because of a traumatic dog attack. I was bitten badly, required surgery, wound vac treatment, and narcotics for pain management. I expressed legitimate fears about being discharged into a home alone, medicated, and vulnerable to potential abuse from visiting aides (an experience many people have endured). Instead of validating these concerns, I was told: "Everyone is vetted." "You just need to think positively." "There's nothing to worry about." That is gaslighting. I know what trauma-informed care looks like -- and this was not it. 5. What Helped (Slightly) The only reason I agreed to discharge was: * My entire medical team -- including surgeon, hospitalist, nurse, and attending -- finally came into alignment and confirmed, in unison, that I was safe to go home. * My best friend called the hospital on my behalf to advocate when I was too exhausted to keep fighting. * I was told I could discontinue home care at any time and would be followed up by a doctor. Still -- this was not a safe or dignified process. It was a coerced exit, not a compassionate transition. Final Thoughts: This hospital does not center patient safety. It centers discharge quotas, insurance deadlines, and damage control. I was not asking for luxury care. I was asking for a basic, safe plan, consistent communication, and to not be treated like an obstacle for wanting both. If I had not fought tooth and nail to stay one more day, I would have been discharged with necrotic tissue in my leg. That alone should say everything. I do not feel safe recommending this hospital to anyone. And I sincerely hope someone inside this system takes accountability -- before another patient is sent home in pain, confusion, or worse. read more

The good was when my doctor referred me there for a special exam. I only had to be there less the 8 hours. This was the upper level of the hospital. Good experience! However my recent experience was totally different from the 1st. I had to go though emergency, was placed in the lower floor, probably because I has pneumonia. And the care was a complete difference from my first experience. Some of the staff needs to be restrained. Can only speak on the non-patient side. You'll need a badge like most hospitals. You can get that either at one of the kiosk or the front desk. The staff I members that helped me were professional, friendly and knowledgeable. The medical staff were top notch. Professionals with a friendly bedside manner. They were able to pinpoint what was wrong with my father and did surgery the same day. With technology as advanced as it is, he was out just hours later. my review is about the unprofessional parking attendance in lot 5-6. I am a resident of Oceanside since 1974 @ 4 years old. Now I have seen this hospital go from superbad to good. BUT, parking is plentiful. HOSPITAL is greedy for money. Yesterday I drop my elderly father off for surgery at 6am. In Washington ave parking lot 5-6. The white Caucasian man with a limp, and the Black Haitian man who doesn't know the difference between VALLET AND VALIDATE PARKING. they were so slow that the Black Suv that was behind me spread past us yelled out the window to get one of the 50 handicap spots available. To realize that this was a worker. Who took a front handicap spot. jumped out of his car like he was running a marathon. SEEMS WORKERS GET FRONT ROW FREE HANDICAP PARKING.... FINALLY WHEN the Caucasian mans phone worked He gave me a ticket for car and one to have validated. At that time there phones weren't working. The exit arm on opposite side wasn't working. I was told at that time to come back out through the entrance. when I finally understood the Haitian man about validation. After a hour, I got in my car to leave. there was a line to come in. But no way to go out. There was no sense of urgency to get things going smoothly. The Haitian man was relaxing in his chair, and the Caucasian was limping around slowly. line of 2 cars and to 2 trucks. I HAD TO WAIT ADDITIONAL 15 MINUTES.UNREAL. Then at 1217pm I went back to hospital..NOW, THE SAME ATTENDANCE WERE THERE. All of a sudden I'm told I have to pay for parking. so I asked how much for how long. They couldn't answer the question. they went on and on about paying. I WAS TOLD IF I LEFT IN 30 MINUTES I WOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY FOR PARKING. NO WHERE ARE THERE SIGNS FOR PAYING FOR PARKING IR HOW TO PAY FOR PARKING. so, I ran up to give my father his lunch. he hadn't eaten for 2 days . I got back down and went to exit by the parking attendant exit. NOW THE FUN BEGINS, I was up there a half hour. told I would have to pay. Now I'm told it's $4.00 and Cc/debit only.. hmm I only had cash. The told him this is what I have. he would take the money. THIS IS THE USA . MONEY IS THE LEGAL TENDER. So, of course things got heated. THEY HELD ME HOSTAGE FOR $4.00.. I HAD TO CALL THE POLICE. Everyone came out. This parking staff that day HORRIBLE!!! NOT PROFESSIONAL, UNTRAINED. MY OPINION THERE CON MEN looking for a second chance, but failing. So, ended up I didn't have to pay. BECAUSE, the die of the hospital said open the gate... NO ONE TOOK THE $4.00 CASH .. UNREAL.. I waited three hours after i got a bed in the emergency for high Glucose. I'm a Diabetic. I came there by ambulance. I waited three hours in a room to be seen by a doctor to bring my Glucose down and all I needed was insulin. They waited three hours for the nurse shift changed. I was there a total of seven hours. What a waste of time. That time could of been spent on a person who really needed a emergency room. My advice have the ambulance take you to another hospital. This is by far the worst ED experience I've ever had. The process is slow and backwards it Literally took 4 hours for them to hook up a basic IV Rooms have sinks with no paper towels to dry hands. I had a terrible experience at South Nassau Emergency Department. I want to preface this by saying, I understand how high stress and demanding emergency rooms are. However, the care that me and my family member experienced is just disgusting. I took my family member to the ER at around 5 am due to debalitating flank, back and abdominal pain. My family member could barely work, was inconsolable and was in obvious pain. The ER wasn't busy but there was some sort of big "Trauma" going on. Once we got in the room we waiting so long and my family meme was in pain. We requested to atleast get her some pain medication but that request was decline because a doctor was coming and we had to wait. We asked how long and were told "soon " for the third time. Well the man who triaged us in went to as nurse to tell him about my sisters obvious condition and the nurse said "we have a really big trauma going on, he's not coming to screaming 25 year old". DISGUSTING. We decided to leave and go to NYU Langone Winthrop ER and was treated with the best care ever and was seek promptly because clearly my family members condition warranted an urgent response. Shame on you south nassau! I called to complain and I won't be stopping there. Not to mention I asked another guy there for helped and his attitude was disgusting because he "just got back from break". IF YOU ARENT PASSIONATE ABOUT PEOPLE STOP WORKING IN HEALTHCARE. Every one in my family has been a Patient in Mount Sinai South Nassau Hospital, and friends of mine have been going to this hospital for years. I know people that have Worked there and volunteered for years! I have been with every family Member in this Hospital, my Mother Dina, and my sons, for stitches, a throat infection, pancreatic inflammation, a Broken collarbone, a broken hand, a cut wrist, panic attacks. In the past few months I have been at the hospital for a few days. They diagnosed my new thyroid condition and started me on medication. The nurses in the ER are Great including Sean and on d1 east, Anne and Taz. I'm happy that this hospital is Close By! I probably won't have time to Travel to save My Life! read more

Parking is a joke. Visitor patking always full. No handicap. Not everyone believes in valet. I had bad exp with valets in past. They let my father fall out of icu bed even after we told them numerous times he has dementia and is prone to getting out of bed. Horrible. read more

This is the hands down worst hospital with the most unkind nurses...in the ICU of all places. So loud and chitchatty on the floor with each other, meanwhile, meds are recorded improperly, communication to patients post surgery is neglected. Attention to details like pain meds and helping patients stay ahead of their post surgical pain is equally nonexistent. They are harsh and unkind and defensive. Doing anything quickly in order to help a patient in pain is definitely beyond their abilities. Taking pain seriously in general is beyond them. My daughter's post-surgery recovery is worse because of them and amazingly they even managed to make her feel bad about herself...as a person...while she was in pain....after a 7 hour surgery.
