I'm currently going to court and will continue to go to court regarding Kay & Marie placing a November late fee to my December rent! Now mind you I wasn't late in November I paid through this Flex app that has zero communication with residents. By having this November late fee applied to my December rent, I was unable to pay my December rent. Now mind you I NEVER had this problem until it was my renewal time in which Im not renewing due to this entire headache process & my vehicle being broken into the last 2 years EVERY summer! March of 2023 I reviewed the property of Mount Vernon located in Desoto Texas. Before signing the lease I was required to meet with the leasing agent to view documents of the chosen apartments that was available. The base for the apartment I chosen was $1120.00 in which I added the washer/dryer to include the renters insurance. 2 months later an additional $97.00 was added to the $1200 that I was orginally suppose to pay. On December 3, 2024 I went into the office inquiring about a notice I received stating that I owe a water bill for 93.05 on top of the $1200. So when speaking with the manager (not sure what her name is) I inquired about...why are the tenants paying for storm drainage fees, sewer base fees, water base fees, to include water. The property manager blatantly said I quote " that the Desoto City charge the property owner those fees and the property owner gets there money back from the tenants ". Is that fair? No. The property manager is rude, conceited, and obnoxious. I here to rent not to accommodate the property owner on their expenses that is due to the city. I apartment is roach infested, the electrical system is defaulted, the building itself has shifted and because there are two busted pipes where water is constantly gushing out daily that lead to the outside ground being unlevel. In conclusion due to the fact that the property manager feels like they are above the law and that they can rent gauge their tenants is unacceptable. Since the property manager admitted to the property owner receiving money from their tenants because the city is charging them fees...this situation need to investigated and the property manager need to be fired. The property has a soothing view but living in the apartment is a nightmare. Be careful before renting. Don't let the outside fool you. read more

Returned to my apartment after 4 days out of town for Memorial weekend. Noted hole in ceiling with peeling plaster and water stain along wall and damage to my personal carpeting and exercise machine along with the floor. This is the exact same location where the ceiling collapsed previously and was supposedly fixed. Had previously placed multiple work orders related to the same. Day after work order, received notice work order completed and upon inspection, hole and peeling plaster still present. Management insists on not compensating for damage despite known recurrent issue which was not fixed. This is on top of raising the rent by over 30% since moved into apartment. read more

Forced to rate 1 star because zero isn't an option For starters, I never thought I would write a not so good review especially being that I leased an apartment @Mount Vernon in the past, but things change. I toured the property with manager Lola Agar and was excited to get the ball rolling with the application process. Two days after completion of the application, I received a call from Kayle Wood requesting a copy of my social security card. I phoned and asked if there was a problem with my application, Kate said, "my social card front, and back was needed for credit verification." I complied, and emailed a copy as requested - forwarded to mountvernon@wrhrealty.com Friday, January 19, 2024, I emailed Mount Vernon Apartments @ mountvernon@wrhrealty.onmicrosoft.com to request status of my application. Shortly thereafter, I received a return email from Kayle Wood that read, unfortunately your application HERE HAS BEEN DENIED - no explanation provided. I phoned the telephone number provided in the email (for questions) 972- 298-1946 and Kayle Wood answered. She informed me that my application was denied because my income could not be verified. I asked, "what does that mean?" Her response, I may have submitted documents that have been tampered with or modified. Basically, the documents I submitted were fraud. I explained that's not true, and all documents submitted from both employers were downloaded directly from my employer through ADP. The other document is from VA veteran monthly payments. I asked what the next steps are, Kayle Wood said bluntly, "there aren't any." Tuesday, January 23, I stopped by the leasing office and asked if I could please speak to the manager, Lola Agar. Kayle Wood stepped away for approximately 5-7 minutes, at this point I knew Ms. Agar would not make herself available. Kayle Wood returned and said she could answer any questions. 1. Parking is getting more and more congested for some reason,not sure if people are just buying more cars or families are doubling up in apartments Pretty quiet except for the car stereo every so often. Tried to get an apartment here. I was approved but before i was approved i was told they felt as if i was scamming and needed tons of information in which i had because I'm not a scammer. I get the approval only for them to say i have to pay 3months rent just to move in. Wow now that's unheard of especially when i have a fair credit with renters history. Worst experience ever. Don't waste your money here. We're all paying high rent no updates on the apartments, I've put in multiple work orders for a leaking pipe under my sink and a broken garbage disposal. The maintenance has come in each time and it keeps going out. This past time maintenance came in to fix the garbage disposal once again and there's no way he missed what we seen the next morning. We opened our cabinet to see that the pipe under the kitchen sink has leaked out and flooded the entire cabinet and even started to mold. You can see where the maintenance man moved our stuff over which means he noticed but didn't do anything to prevent more damage. There's nothing luxury or rewarding about the amount we pay to live here. It's hard finding parking unless you're paying and if you're paying, you have to wait for approval which we were denied for whatever reason. The bathroom walls and tub paint disappears the more you clean it and reveals where they've just kept repainting over previous renters. Just save your money and trust in the low reviews. just now I applied for a 2/2 was told I was approved received my welcome home letter, sent my deposit only to receive a call a week later from Nikkita stating that she confused my application with another potential tenant and that I'll need a cosigner and that my cosigner would need to make 4X's the rent because I have collections on my credit which is not true because I monitor my credit so I know for a fact I don't have any collections or any other blemishes. Please beware they use this tactic to force (scam) more money out of you. Now I'm out of $375 due to Nikkita's mistake. She's unprofessional and a liar! read more

When I first moved here there was no reserved parking. Apparently there is now. There was no announcement that it was available or how to get a spot. So when I parked my car at 11pm after work I didn't see the reserved paint on the ground. Got towed. This is just one of the many things they won't tell you. The online process is worthless because you'll have to do it all on paper anyway and make sure you ask about ALL of the paper work and fees because they'll skip over that too. Renovations are spotty. There are clumps of nails sticking out of the wood on the patio. At Mount Vernon your money matters. read more

Stayed here from January 2016 to November 2022. Maintenance is awesome but the staff lie. I was never late on a rent payment or missed a rent payment during my entire residence at Mount Veron but they told me at the end of my lease I was 2 months behind on water. That's a lie and a reason to keep my deposit. I was not even staying in the apartment for 2 months before my lease ended and staff are saying I owe 2 months behind... lie!!! I have all my receipts and will be taking my complaint to the housing authority (Update: after reading another review, I'll be contacting the Better Business Bureau BBB as well). There's no way with their fees and the way they fee you to death that I would ever get behind on any payment because of all the fees they charge. I will never recommend this apartment to anyone. Please consider all reviews and judge for yourself. I lived there long enough to know how this apartment raises rates and fees. The maintenance however is great and respond quickly to any maintenance issue. I just wish I could say the same for the dishonest office staff. read more

The grounds of the apartments are very well maintained. It's quiet so far. I just moved in so far so good. Nikita was awesome! I needed to move rather quickly and she made that happen. I've been here over 8 years. I hate moving. There are better places to live I'm sure...BUT there absolutely are worse places too. The staff is friendly and helpful, which is very important to me. Some years ago, they had a lot of office staff turn-over, so the service suffered. It's cool now. The majority of the units are older, so you have to deal with things that are typical for older apartments (slow draining tubs, etc.). After renting a local home for the last 15 months, my business partner and I were looking for a change to a local apartment complex. The apartment shown was nice but they were inflexible on the move in date. Although that should have been an indicator, we accepted the early move in requirement and moved on to doing the online application. Now it gets fun. Here's some perspective, both my business partner and I own $500k+ homes out of the area (we commute to our business here in Dallas each week). We both have credit scores over 700 and we both earn $100k. In addition to our drivers license(s), the apartment required three pay stubs (not just the last one). Then they said the compliance department now requires a front and back copy of our social security cards. I haven't had a copy of my social security card in twenty years; passport (yes), drivers license (check), DD214 military service (yup) but you seriously need a hard copy of my social security card? Needless to say we withdrew our application and hope the rest of you that apply are ready to offer your blood type...as I'm sure that's next. For an apartment rental? Get real. read more

On Wednesday, 06/15/16, I came home to a notice on my door exposing my personal information which included how much I owed the complex. The paper was not folded. I send an email immediately to the apartment complex. I then contacted the corporate office on Friday 06/17/16 because I had not received a response from the complex. I received a call from the property manager, Debra, on Monday, June 20, 2016. She said it their policy not to "fold" a notice that is left on a resident's door. However, she could not tell me where this policy existed. She also discovered that Rosalinda had told me the wrong information about the 60 day notice. She then asked me if I wanted her manager, Mowrie Boardman, to call me and I said yes. She never apologized for exposing my personal information nor offered a solution to the issue. This is an email I sent to the complex (this incident occurred on June 15, 2016): I am highly upset with this property and Rosalinda! Why did you put a notice on my door exposing my unpaid balance??? The least you could have done was too put the notice in an envelope. I feel like this is a violation of the US privacy laws regarding my personal identifying information. I am so tired of being told the wrong information. Per my discussion with Rosalinda on Monday, June 13, 2016, she told me I would have an unpaid balance of $63.33 due by June 25, 2016. I asked Rosalinda more than twice if the amount due was correct ($63.33) and she said yes. I understood that I owed an additional amount of $63.33 since my rental contract ended on June 12, 2016 and I did not renew my lease. She saw me make notes of our discussion so now I am confused and outraged by the incorrect information I was given. In the month of May 2016, I did not know I would be charged a late fee of $50.00 for paying my rent on May 5, 2016. I went to the office on May 5, 2016 and was told by Rosalinda in a room full of prospective tenants that since I paid my rent late, I owed an additional $50.00. I had no problem with paying the late fee but the manner in which she delivered the message to me was unprofessional. The correct way was to take me into her office and advise me of the late fee. I left the office and went to my apartment to write a check for the late fee. When I came back to the office, I asked Rosalinda if o could talk to her and told her that I did not appreciate her telling my "business" in front of other prospective tenants. Rosalinda apologized and I accepted her apology. As of today, 06/23/16, I have not received a return call from Mr. Boardman. I feel this property does not care about their residents and should train their employees better. They truly lack customer service skills. My two encounters with their office staff (Rosalinda) has been unprofessional. I filed a complaint today with the BBB because I have failed to hear from the corporate office. read more

Please do not be taken back from the one and only review for this community. I came here just this past August and was warmly greeted by Nikita and she was more then helpful. The community is well kept and for the most part fairly quiet, which made me pleasantly surprised. The rent rates are more then fair especially considering what your getting. Rebecca the office manager has helped me when my go to Nikita isn't available and she is very helpful as well with a great sense of humor. The ladies in the office are amazing. They have many different layouts for their 1-3 bedroom units depending on what your looking for. I love the water features throughout the community and it is dog friendly. This place has a nice sense of community and family here. Most of the tenants here are employees for the school district and or the hospital just around the corner. Really just hard working people including myself wanting their peace. I love this complex and would highly recommend it. This complex has made huge improvements since its last review on Yelp. This review concerns my experience with the preleasing process, as I have yet to move in. I often don't write Yelp reviews, but I felt compelled to do so because my experience was not at all what other Yelpers have described. I met with Nikita today in person for a tour after speaking with her on the phone. She was courteous, knowledgeable, and honest. I toured several other potential complexes today in the Duncanville/Redbird/Desoto area, and this one stood out the most. Prices are reasonable, units are fairly standardized, and the one-bedroom options I toured were spacious and well-arranged. Realize that certain in-unit amenities cost more per month, including a reasonable small monthly fee to rent a washer/dryer. I'm a young Asian professional (YAP) who has rented in Austin, Galveston, and Houston over the past 11 years, and the management here appears competent, and the one-bedroom units provide all my desired amenities at my desired price-point, and the gorgeous clubhouse & pool, well-equipped fitness room, and easily accessible business center are nice community benefits that I was not expecting in my price range. read more

I went to view an apartment today and I have never felt so unwelcomed in my life. I barely got a hello. The girl who I worked with, Courtney I believe is her name, was rude and so unhelpful. She pretty much just handed me a brochure and continued to clack at her computer. She then showed me an apartment and said NOTHING. Pretty much just opened the door to the apartment and I walked around while she stood at the door. She didn't say anything about amenities, the new renovations, how long the property had been there, nothing. I was so fed up I just got my ID and left. Luckily I have a friend who stays on the property who showed me her apartment and warned me that many of the renovations were poorly done but it was still a nice place. Unfortunately, I refuse to even consider leasing here when office staff cannot conduct themselves as professionals. Please consider having someone else show apartments because I had been researching this place for a while a was truly interested in leasing but poor customer service made me decide against it. read more
