My son attended Mountain Boulevard Montessori for two years and three months before advancing to Transitional Kindergarten (TK). During his time there, we had experience with their toddler, preschool, and pre-K programs, and overall, our experience was wonderful. We never had any concerns about our child's safety, and communication with the school was consistently excellent. Every email or phone call was responded to promptly, and we always felt informed and supported. The curriculum is quite structured and leans a little more academic than some preschools, but in our case, that proved to be a real benefit. It provided an excellent runway into TK, where our son seems very well prepared compared with many of his peers, both socially and academically. There were several staff members who really stood out to us. Mr. Andreas has a wonderful disposition for working with children--he strikes a great balance between setting high expectations while remaining warm, patient, and humorous. Mr. Dennis is an exceptional administrator and was always communicative, open, and thorough. I never felt that a question or concern went unanswered. Ms. Wendy was my son's favorite teacher and was part of his experience for most of his time at the school. She was his classroom teacher for about a year and later his Spanish teacher after he moved into the pre-K class. She is very nurturing and has a particularly good way of channeling the energy of highly active children like my son while still keeping them engaged and focused. In terms of value, tuition seemed right around market rate. Compared with similar schools we considered, Mountain Boulevard Montessori was somewhere in the middle price-wise, but what stood out to us were the smaller class sizes, strong teacher-to-student ratio, and the overall quality of the facility. The school is highly organized, impeccably clean, and consistently well maintained. It was also extremely helpful that the school calendar generally mirrored Oakland Unified's holidays and vacations. That made childcare logistics much easier and avoided many of the scheduling conflicts that can arise when preschool and elementary school calendars are out of sync. If I had to offer any constructive feedback, I think families would benefit from as much advance communication as possible around staffing changes. At this age, changes in teachers can feel significant to children, and having a little runway can help families prepare them. At the same time, I completely understand that employment and privacy considerations may limit what a school is able to share. I also observed a few interactions involving one long-standing teacher where the communication style felt somewhat less patient and nurturing than what we had experienced with the rest of the staff. I have no doubt about her academic abilities or experience, and my son had very limited direct interaction with her until right before his departure, so I can't speak to any lasting impact, however, it was something I noticed that seemed inconsistent with all other interactions with staff at the school. This was very much an exception to an otherwise consistently positive experience over more than two years at Mountain Boulevard Montessori. We were very happy with the care, education, communication, and preparation our son received, and I would feel very comfortable recommending the school to friends or family without hesitation. read more

My daughter has attended Mountain Boulevard Montessori School for the last 2.5 years (since she was 28 months old) and it is easily the best decision we have made. We looked at so many different school options and are beyond happy that we chose this school. The small/intimate feeling compounds to staff that really care about the safety, health, and development of all the kids. I want to take a moment to recognize the Director Mr Dennis for his excellent customer service. I reached out to a few Montessori schools with questions about their policies because I'm currently going through a custody battle. , the father enrolled our child in a Montessori school, and that school refused to provide me with any details--even after I made it clear there are no restrictions on custody. It made an already difficult situation even more frustrating, as it felt like they were siding with him or had been told not to share any information with me. Dennis, however, was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond . Even though my child isn't enrolled at his school, he took the time to clearly explain their policies and shared that all Montessori schools should follow the same principles. He emphasized that both parents should be treated equally and provided all the information I needed without hesitation. He even instructed me on what steps .which was incredibly thoughtful and supportive. Although I currently share 50/50 custody, if I had the choice, I would absolutely choose Mountain boulevard Montessori. It's clear that they genuinely care about the children and families they serve. I've been meaning to write this review. My son went to MBMS for preschool & kindergarten and absolutely loved it every day he went there. My son was shy when he started but blossomed into a confident little boy under the love and care of Wendy, Jeannette, and Kathy. He recently move to the public school system for elementary and is really excelling. The directors, Miss Eleni and Mr.Dennis are organized, involved, and dedicated as the school has been there for over 40 years. The curriculum is top notch, especially their reading program and Spanish and Mandarin classes. It's hard to explain the wonderful experience my family has had with Mountain Blvd Montessori School. My family, much like other families, has had its share of ups and downs. This is why I am so thankful to have found MBMS when I was searching for that "good school" for my kiddo. I wanted a school where there wasn't hundreds of kids where my kiddo would be just another face in the crowd. I wanted a smaller school that truly welcomed and encouraged diversity. In addition, I wanted a school that reflected a warm and home like setting with a solid educational program. I was so frustrated in my search that I was ready to just give up, quit my job, and try homeschooling (which I felt I couldn't do). Then I ran into a friend who suggested I go see this obscure little school she discovered while hiking on one of the hiking trails in the East Bay Regional Parks. This is when I took her up on her suggestion and called MBMS. After getting so many voicemails, answering machines, and no answer phone calls, I was surprised when the director actually answered. We spent the next hour or so talking about parenting, education, and life. Having a person to actually talk to me rather then trying to sell me something put me at ease with this difficult and very emotional decision regarding my child's first school. When I toured MBMS with my child, I knew I found the little "gem" my friend told me about. We found that home we were looking for. The teachers and directors are always available for short update phone chats if I have a question or need advice. I would give MBMS 10 stars if I could. We absolutely love Mountain Boulevard Montessori! In just one month, my child has grown and learned so much, it's truly amazing to see. The staff are patient, caring, and deeply invested in the children's development. This was actually the very first preschool we toured seven months ago, and after visiting many others since, we always found ourselves comparing them back to Mountain Boulevard Montessori. While there are some great preschools in the area, this one stood out as truly exceptional. We were especially impressed by how they teach reading, the sense of discipline among the children, and how clean and well organized the school is. Bittersweet to pick up my son from his last day here. Wife and I are deeply grateful for everything this organization has done for us and for our son over the last few years. From having a spot for him at the start, to helping him through the challenges of being a physical, energetic toddler, to accepting him back into their school after we moved him to another school for their later pick up time. (Long story short, it didn't work out.) We appreciate the firm and gentle "no-nonsense" approach they practice (which our little maniac needed). This fall, we left Mountain Boulevard Montessori when our youngest started TK and we already miss the school and community! We were at the school for the last 4 years and both my son and daughter grew so much (socially, emotionally, academically) during their time there. Both kids always seemed happy to arrive to school and there would be extended goodbyes to their classmates and teachers when it was time to leave. They came home with lots of knowledge, arts & crafts projects, and often giving my husband or I, lessons in the Spanish or Mandarin they had learned that day. The focus on phonics and reading is exceptional. My son was extremely prepared for Kindergarten and my daughter (4 y/o) was given a great foundation (left MBM reading at a K/1st grade level) that we continue to build on at home. Our kids attended this preschool and I can't enough great things about it. First off, MBMS is incredibly wholesome. The snacks are genuinely healthy, the classrooms enough developmental Montessori tasks to engage the kids but not to be overwhelming. There are tons of space outside for them to expend that seemingly endless of physical energy. The teachers are genuine, trained, and truly interested in working with this age group - not babysitters who are out of a real job. The lessons in the classrooms are real world examples of responsibility such manners, putting one's activities, and respecting their peers. This is important because it supports children to creative problem solve. Another great thing is that the family population is diverse - lots of different colors, socioeconomic representation, and a few languages spoken - which we wanted and appreciate. I could go on and on, but the last thing I'll say is the teachers are REAL teachers. They love being here to work with young children and not having to work for the benefit of just a paycheck. Amazing location with the best caring team. The administration and teachers are professional, taking care to their daily greeting these young minds and families. As a grandmother, this school is inclusive and accepting of all cultures, languages, and families. I found their academic, science, emotional and social development very balanced with music, Mandarin and Spanish immersion language--which is enriching for all. These brief moments is what make this little school so welcoming. When you first enter the campus, it is like arriving at a well maintained and immaculately clean home. The best place for my child! Life is full circle growing up with friends who attended Mountain Blvd Montessori. Since 1983! I'm grateful to find a spot for my toddler. As many working parents research to find a place... so many places do not have availability. To know your child can grow at their own pace, that the teachers and school work with each child, they don't hold them back, instead customize each child's pace of learning. We transferred from another Montessori preschool after permanent closure. You can only imagine the sudden loss, and he's so happy to thrive here! He also loves his language immersion and we can speak Spanish and Mandarin, practicing counting and colors and animals this week! Here are a few priorities I considered: I needed to find a place for its curriculum, safety and cleanliness. The teachers are amazing. Dennis and Eleni are so dedicated. It's incredible to witness the daily growth and developments the teachers and Administrators have had on my child. It's so important to give the kiddos an opportunity to build a solid foundation of curiosity, love for reading and learning. At 2 years, he was able to count to 20 and recognize each numeric character, colors, animals, alphabet recognition, along with other curriculum of botany, science and geography. Now at 2.5 he can recognize the continents and learning all the oceans. He's building his confidence in reading. He's excited to learn the building blocks on sounding and reading the letters he sees on the page. He can also communicate his empathy of other classmates and can share how much he enjoys playing with each one by name. Toilet training is also a very sensitive issue at this age and they are gentle and working with my child on this as we are also at home potty training. There are many schools to choose from, and only one that has such robust indoor classrooms and outdoor play areas. This one includes a large play structure, bike yard, basketball, and many other areas for all the kiddos to play. As a small business owner myself, a working parent, it's unfortunate to see recent negative reviews. These comments are inaccurate of what I have seen day to day, in addition to my child's positive experiences. The students and families are thriving here... I highly recommend Mountain Blvd.! I learned about Mountain Blvd. through a friend 5 years ago. She shared how the school provides an amazing curriculum to small classrooms. Many of the children are taught to read by the age of 4! The children are taught Mandarin, Spanish and Computer skills. My oldest daughter left Mountain Blvd. with exceptional skills. At age 4, she knew how to count to 125, do arithmetic and subtraction, name and point out all of the continents in the world and READ! We pulled our daughter from the school a year early to get her placement at well respected public school near by. I regret that decision. She did not get the individual academic attention and motivating school instruction I grew accustomed to at Mountain. We recently transferred my oldest daughter to a private school that has the same level of academic rigor that we grew accustomed to at Mountain. Mountain prepared my oldest daughter to do school work that children a grade higher do with ease! My youngest daughter is going to Mountain now. Someone recently posted a negative review about the administration of the school. I would like to share my thoughts about her comments. I am a small business owner. I know how hard it is to build and maintain an excellent business. I admire the administration for creating and maintaining an excellent learning environment for children for over 30 years. They thrived through recessions, the Covid pandemic and challenging parents throughout the years. The administration did an excellent job keeping my oldest daughter safe and Covid free during the pandemic. The safety precautions are high...but I honestly appreciate them. My youngest daughter had a febrile seizure from a fever that spiked uncontrollably on a plane last year. It was the scariest moment of my life. Therefore, it is important to keep my youngest daughter healthy and fever free. I was extremely nervous about my youngest daughter starting school because of my health concerns. The administration at Mountain have maintained amazing safety and health protocols set up during the Covid pandemic. My youngest child is healthy the majority of the time and has not had any fever spikes (or febrile seizures) since she has started attending Mountain. I am eternally grateful for that! Running and maintaining a small business is challenging. This school may not be for your child if you expect the administration to constantly cater to the needs of privileged and pampered parents. If you give the administration respect, they in turn will return the respect and communication you desire. Mountain Blvd. is an institution that thrives on building strong leaders of tomorrow with excellent academic skills. My son attended Mountain Blvd. Montessori from the time he was about 3.5 until shortly after his 5th birthday. Initially, our experience there was positive. He enjoyed school. He liked his teachers and made friends. Our son after his 4th birthday was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. He struggled with transitions and verbal communication. My husband and I informed the school and were very transparent with what therapies we were doing and techniques were using at home to help him transition and cope. That transparency was not reciprocated. The school reported behavior problems. We asked for a classroom observation. We were told 'your presence will change the behavior we are seeing.' In our opinion, this effectively denied us the opportunity to see for ourselves. Later, we were also told by employees that our son was in toddler classes on numerous occasions even though he was 5 years old at the time and about to enter kindergarten. This decision to hold him back was made without us and not discussed with us. If the issue was that they did not have the resources to help our son thrive, I wish they would've just been honest with us like we were with them. To make matters worse, our son came home with scratches and bruising that were worrisome to us. Even if these marks were the result of an accident, a conversation with the parents should've happened explaining what happened. We enrolled our son here, because of the many good reviews and the desire for a quality preschool education...a Montessori education to instill a good work ethic, confidence, strong sense of self, and love of learning. My son attended this school for over a year. While I believe he received an overall good education, there were way more negatives to outweigh this positive. Lack of transparency, poor communication, abrasive treatment from management. It lacks the transparency I need as a parent for my toddlers first experience with care outside of the home. We never received any photos of videos of our child at school, no events welcoming families on campus, and what I found to be ridiculous "rules" (no superhero attire?!). We found a better fit for our family that welcomed transparency and had a sense of community with the other families we unfortunately never received at MBM. read more

we spent one wonderful year with our 4-year-old girl at the school and really enjoyed the experience and the progress she has made. We speak Mandarin only at home so she didn't speak English at all when went to school the first day, and we have worried that if she can get used to it and like it. surprisingly she did very well even in the first week and managed to communicate with others in Mandarin. There is a Mandarin and Spanish teacher in the school, so she learned three languages all together. After a few months, her English is good enough to teach grandma at home! Besides languages, we are also very happy to see she learned a lot of songs and games which she shows us all the time! When we began looking for a pre-school for our daughter when she was 2 1/2 years old, we knew we wanted a Montessori program. My step-mother was a Montessori teacher so I grew up in that environment and as an older child and teen-ager I spent my summers in her classroom. This allowed me to have a clear expectation of what a Montessori program should look like. When we toured different schools I was unimpressed until we arrived at Mountain Boulevard Montessori. It was quite clear from the minute we walked in that this was a high quality Montessori school and when we talked to director I was impressed by her knowledge and her obvious love of the work she does. Prior to starting at MBM, our daughter never attended any sort of childcare program (only with grandma or a parent) so it was a tough transition. The staff was kind and patient as she slowly grew more comfortable with being away from us. They would give us daily updates about how she was doing and let her set her pace. This allowed her to become more and more comfortable and before we knew it, school was something she looked forward to. In the time she has attended MBM, she has developed a greater understanding of the world including it's history and how it works. Her education has also included mathematics, writing, reading, and languages. She loves to come home and share something she learned. There is also lots of time for play and activities like art and music. The instructors and staff at Mountain Boulevard have been kind and helpful and given our daughter a moral grounding in a highly diverse social environment. Both Miss Renee and Ms Kathy have been her teachers, and she loves both of them. Mr. Andres is so kind and patient with the kids and it is obvious that Ms. Eleni is a dedicated teacher and director. The school has provided her the foundation and grounding that she will need to succeed in the years ahead. Both my girl have been attending Mountiab Blvd for about 3 years now. The staff is amazing and the girls love being at school and would take foverever just to leave. They especially love Mrs. Dalaney is so tender and sweet however can be stern and direct which I appreciate as I don't want my kids to be over coddled. Mr. Teacher Man (Mr. ANDRES) is just like the same. The girls always come come singing in either Spanish or Mandarin, talk about everything they learned that day without prompts or me asking. They also have developed great At social emotional skills and problem solving techniques qhich are quite advanced for their age but have a full understanding and grasp of as such a tender age. Our overall experience with Mountain Blvd Montessori School has been absolutely WONDERFUL! Our daughter started when she was two years old and has been there for two years. This is my daughter's first experience attending any school when she began as a toddler. Her favorite subject is science because of the experiments in class. Math is fun for her with the different Montessori jobs, and she can read and write 3 letter words. I was playing classical music with online radio and she said, "mommy, this is Bach. He's a musical composer." Of course I checked my phone because I didn't know, and she was right! She blows my mind with what she has learns, teaching me and making me more curious about the world. She learns so many other topics, coming home talking to us about famous artists, singing in Mandarin + Spanish. I've been meaning to post a review for a hot minute now, before we say goodbye next year for public school and especially during this pandemic time... I remember when we were looking for preschools and we pretty much used Yelp reviews to get a glimpse of the types of preschools near us. Please keep in mind that there are some professional complainers out there that have no shame. I can definitely see through the few negative reviews. Those unhappy people have other things to be unhappy about and have the urge to blame others for being... one-star parents. ANYWHO, we've been totally satisfied with all aspects of the program. proud art our daughter shares with us. She literally runs into school everyday with her joyful self. Her teachers have been very sweet and warm to her since day one. I'll never forget the first time she ran in towards her friends without looking back with quick "love you, bye!" She is sooo excited to start her last year at the school in "the big kids class". During this global lockdown, we truly treasure school, have not and will not take education for granted. We had our son here for one year before he went to kindergarten and we couldn't recommend it more. Everyone was friendly, detailed and our son loved going to school everyday.
