I hiked Flat Top today and I was starving and I also had to pee really badly, so I stopped here because my husband said that Peaks Lodge buffet would be way too sketchy. They have both breakfast and lunch including sandwiches and hotdogs. We got sandwiches and two big bags of chips and I also bought ice cream and an apple pie (that actually looked like a mountain) and after that I blacked out but I know I spent around $50. They put jalapeño peppers on sandwiches if you ask for it and then a Hispanic man came in and they greeted him in Spanish so that's basically all you need to know to determine their character. I plan to go back and buy a bunch of canned goods for stocking stuffers because who doesn't want good local food for Christmas? No one. They also have fresh produce and a super creepy painting of a bunny.

This is a locals spot. I think they come for produce and some of the fresh made baked goods. I did buy some strawberry ice cream that was delicious. The shelves were stocked with jars that look like they have been there a long time. Some were covered in dust and some of the food looked faded. They have a small food preparation are for take away food. I think there may be a bit of seating outside. Whatever they were cooking when we came in was smoking up the store. So go get some ice cream and fruit!

This is where we stop on our way to Peaks of Otter, for our pre-hike, take-out breakfast sandwiches. I get bacon, egg & cheese with lettuce, tomato & mayo on white bread (not toasted). It's amazing - just like Grammy used to make! My husband gets the same but without the bacon & the kids enjoy the biscuit sandwiches. This is also a good opportunity to pick up any last minute drinks or trail snacks. While you're waiting for your sandwiches, check out their big assortment of sauces, jams, jellies & preserves. And (of course) they beautiful fresh fruit & produce. Right now the peaches look crazy good! Otw home, (post-hike), you can always stop for homemade peach ice cream - or try one of the other flavors like cantaloupe or mango! This is our 4th annual trip to SML. Every year we hike Peaks of Otter & every year we stop here at Mountain Fruit & Produce first. The people are ridiculously nice & accommodating. The restroom is clean & the food is delicious & affordable. For all of these reasons, it's become a "Bee" Family Tradition!

We were warmly greeted by the manager, John Wilcher, who was personable and took the time to share the history of the restaurant and walk us through the menu. We chose the Turkey Lurkey sandwich, which was piled high with delicious turkey on a fresh bun with bacon, lettuce, and tomato. We also ordered the potato salad as a side, and it was very good. We dined inside, and the dining area was historic and beautiful, with original artwork displayed on the walls. We left happy and would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food and a welcoming atmosphere.

We went through 3-4 cards for which their system wouldn't accept. Not declined for ISF because all had SF. But the system wouldn't recognize them as payment methods which several were major CCs. Thankfully the last one worked. We were told sometimes the system won't take some CC. Which again some we tried were major CC, which makes no scenes. Be sure you have cash on hand! If it weren't for the experience with their card machine I would have added another star, unfortunately these days having card payment methods available you absolutely need one that works properly and is up to date.
