    Ponderosa pines

The 2023 annular solar eclipse on Saturday October 14 was a unique experience and deserved to be observed intimately away from the teeming crowds at Canyonlands and other Utah National Parks. So I donned my cowboy hat and befriended Mountain Joe and his beautiful wrangler horses for the day at 7800ft. And boy what an amazing experience it was. We probably had the most personal experience of the eclipse in all of Utah. Bracing the cold mountain breeze we trotted through the quiet solitude of Ponderosa pines, with the only other evidence of activity being the echos of our own voices, scurrying deer, open grazing cattle and the sweet melody of birds chirping away in the distance. With fall colors blooming against the backdrop of the snow-capped peaks of the La Sal range, we quietly watched the eclipse unfold, marveling at the rare "ring of fire" created as the moon passed between the Sun and the Earth until the next one in 2039. God is Great.

Absolutely awesome experience. We were a mixed group of 6 from horse owners and experienced riders to some not having ridden since they were kids and we ALL had a great time! This is truly a personalized ride and a great way to get out of the desert for a bit and enjoy the cool Ponderosa pine part of Utah. Mountain Joe is a rare gem and his trail rides are a must do if you want to see the best of America on horseback.

We had a wonderful ride with Mountain Joe! Booking was easy, great communication during the process and when it looked like weather might shut down our ride. We did a two hour ride with our five year old (his first ride) and he couldn't stop talking about how great it was. Beautiful scenery, great horses, and a great guide.

We were visiting Moab for Arches NP for the weekend and found Joe's business in a Local advertisement. I have been wanting to go horseback riding for a while and the area looked beautiful, so I went on his website and made a reservation. It was quite simple and easy. Joe contacted me right away and informed that the ride won't be in the mountain but right off 191 because of the weather. It actually worked out great for us since we were traveling back to AZ, and it saved us some time. And he also asked for the rider's information, so he could have everything prepared for us. We were the first reservation of the day and got there about 30 mins early, and Joe was already there and all set up! He greeted us and made fine adjustments according to each rider. There were four of us including 14 and 11 year old. Joe gave us simple and clear instructions about how to work with the horses and he led us out to a small trail. I could see Joe understands his horses very well and had assigned the right hoses for each of us! Most of us had very little experience with horse, and especially my youngest one had no previous riding experience at all, but had no issues whatsoever. The open land was relaxing to stroll through, and as we were heading back, the sight of the snowy mountain was absolutely gorgeous blending with the dark green surroundings. Joe was very pleasant to work with, and we greatly appreciate our unforgettable experience. All of my family really enjoyed the visit to Moab overall, but this was definitely the highlight of our weekend. We definitely want to go back during summer time and try again up in the mountain.

This was our second ride with Mountain Joe and it was once again fantastic! We brought along my 70-year-old mother for her first-ever horseback ride, and she had such a good experience! Mountain Joe was incredibly accommodating and made sure she felt comfortable. We rode with our 4- and 6-year old kids and they've been asking to go back for another ride every day since!

This is not your typical nose to tail trail ride with horses that only go where the horse in front goes.
