Everyone was knowledgeable and I learned a lot about the San Juan River, its history, geology and stories about people who lived it. If one doesn't spend much time on a river, they don't think about how it moves and where it goes, what happens when the water level is low, and rocks appear, etc. All of these details are taken into consideration every moment and it made the trip more enjoyable to know that someone was paying attention like this. The weather was with us. Sleeping under the stars for a week is an experience that everyone should have. The first night, Theresa thoughtfully arranged for a lunar eclipse and we watched it from chairs facing the river with the canyon walls beyond. One of the guides had high-powered binoculars which were passed around. It was a wonderful beginning to a perfect week. There was a strong sense of camaraderie among our group and with the guides. Sharing this experience was palpable amongst us. Although we were not pampered (who wants to be pampered on a river trip?) we were well taken care of. Doing some of the work like helping with taking the baggage off the boats and things like that are part of the process that brought us closer together because we were cooperating with each other. Not one cranky word was said in seven days. More kudos for Theresa and her crew. They were true professionals in every sense of the word. And T has a wicked sense of humor to boot (or not to boot).

Mistakes do happen, and the commonly accepted protocol is the one who might pay the price for a mistake, should be the one who does the final check out. THE WILDERNESS IS BY DEFINITION WILD, so be prepared, and take responsibility for your self and your party. NEVER FULLY COUNT ON ANYONE ELSE to ensure your own safety. In part I do agree with that review: "if you use MRCC" OR ANY OTHER OUTFITTER "be sure to check all of your gear before leaving town." AMEN! Kevin dispenses the sort of knowledgeable guidance on outfitting both self-guided and guided trips, choosing routes and gear appropriate to all skill levels and current conditions. Lisa and Kevin set up the sort of trips that so delighted them with this area, that they had to move here to live the life! For these two, outfitting is more than a job, it is a way of sharing a great life on the water. Kevin is also an authorized Wenonah Canoe dealer, arguably among the finest made boats. I had never heard of Canyonlands and we saw parts that we would never have seen. It was awe-inspiring and so very beautiful. I felt very safe and he taught us a lot about the area but also gave us time just to soak it all in. My favorite part of our trip so far was this ride. We rafted in the afternoon with Evans and Sam. They both worked very hard navigating the rafts, setting up and breaking down the lunch, and loading and unloading rafts. The water is low so it is not a fast moving river but the winds were really strong and pushing against us. Evans kept a great attitude and engaged with everyone and maybe that is just the norm. I was exhausted watching him! We saw a bald eagle fly over and land very close to us and that was a great highlight! Overall, a great day!

You can either meet at their location, where you can get some merch, sunscreen, use the facilities and ask any questions you have, or you can pay a small fee to get picked up from your location. From their place to the river, we did one of their raft tours, with 2 other couples we met there, and Josh, our guide. From beginning to end, Josh had a lot of information and history to share with us, and he made everything interesting and fun. He enjoyed answering questions, sharing his knowledge with us, and taking all the pictures we wanted. We even stopped for a quick hike on our tour (and those that didn't want to join were welcomed to stay on the raft). This was an amazing way to see a lot in a "short time" and learn.

I was searching on line and found Navtec. The river ride on the Colorado sounded like a great way to see the park. And it sure was, we nailed it. We arrived at their location downtown Moab a little while after checking into a hotel downtown. They offered to pick us up but it was a nice 10 minute walk to get to their office. It's a nice spot with plenty of last minute necessary's like sunscreen. Within minutes of rallying our group of 6 we were off to the launch point for the tour with our motorized blowup boat. We had a stop along the way at the great wall to see hieroglyphics. The boat ride was great, with information on spots and stories as well. Our guide Josh was excellent. Happy to say we had a great time.

Wow, what an amazing experience!…read more We drove our nearly stock Land Rover to Moab from Salt Lake to do a little bit of exploring. Our initial plan was to drive the easy trails, but after doing some inquiring, we decided on reaching out to portal off road tours to have a guide with us. This was probably the best decision of the trip. It allowed us to do much more adventurous trails than we originally planned. First and foremost, Brenden, who I spoke with on the phone to set up the tour, was amazing and helped me understand what to expect. We set up two separate trips... One easier one on the first day called fins and things and the full hells revenge tour on day two. The company was very helpful and offered advice since we are brand new to this and thought it would be best to try the easier tour first, which we must say is still pretty intimidating. We appreciate them wanting to make sure we didn't ruin our vehicle. Our guide was Jason and he showed up on time and very excited to take us out. Jason was incredible and honestly one of the best people we've met in a long time. You can tell he's passionate about this activity which showed up as soon as we hit the trail. He made us feel very comfortable, allowing me to take our vehicle on some pretty incredible trails. He also was able to give us some history/background on the area as well as some key bits of information regarding the skill set required to do these trails by yourself. He offers to take pics and videos of us on some cool spots and we appreciate the extra time in making our experience that much better. I could not recommend this more as these two adventures that we went on were the highlight of our trip. Jason was our guide on both days and he was incredible, but I'm sure Brenden would also do a great job as he also takes tours out in a separate jeep. If you have time, definitely go on a trip with them. You can take your own vehicle or go ride along with them in their well equipped jeeps. One thing that makes them unique is they are one of the few companies that take you up hells gate. I must say this is an experience you will not regret! Absolutely incredible.
