Sky Meadow has been home to our annual knitting retreat for more than 10 years. We (16 knitters)…read moretake over the whole barn area early in April and stay for 3 nights. It is spotless. We cook all our own meals in the very well stocked kitchen. We find every tool we need, plus serving dishes and pots and pans. There is a large open area for yoga, weaving, spinning. We tend to sit on the sofa and chairs in the corner and just knit. The Wood stove, kept stocked by the owner, Miles, keeps us toasty and warm. There are barn animals just behind the bedrooms where you can approach and pat the sheep and alpaca, and hear the rooster crow in the early hours. There are several bathrooms and bunk rooms for 4. Sunsets through the enormous picture window are fabulous, also mountain views and wildlife. Walks on the deserted dirt road are peaceful and the trails surrounding the barn go through the woods and to a meadow. A wonderful place to rejuvenate.

But a Groupon offer brought me to the very intimate yoga studio located inside Fred Segal in Santa Monica. And I am so glad it did! It was previously called Yoga Poser, but that business has left and now the classes are conducted by the lovely and bubbly Lara Nordenson. Her classes focus on form and she takes the time to teach proper alignment and techniques. She understands that yoga is a personal journey and is there to help with guidance and encouragement. Her classes are not the crazy "power" yoga where you sweat a gallon and feel dizzy. Nor are they the hot yoga variety where you go into a sauna to try to not faint during warrior 1. Her classes are how I dreamed a yoga class would be: challenging but still within my reach and abilities. Her guidance is allowing me to grow in the practice and become stronger with each flow.

I'm shocked I haven't reviewed Float Harder yet. I've been probably 7-10 times over the past few…read moreyears and love it. I've even tried all of the pods and the float room. Whichever you choose, they are all in completely private rooms with a shower, soap, towels and ear plugs. When you arrive you get to choose a color for lights, that you can turn off while floating, if you want. You also choose from a list of soundscapes such as ocean noises, jungle, Pink Floyd and more, that can also be turned off. You must shower before floating and cannot use conditioner. I'm not sure how much time you get exactly but I've always had enough time to shower and get in before the "welcome, your float is starting" notification. Ear plugs are a must because getting any of the heavily salted water in your ears sucks. I always use the ring hanging in the tank to float my head on, so I can relax my neck. The 90 minutes goes by surprisingly fast and I almost always doze off. The lovely voice will let you know when the float ends and the lights come on automatically. After you shower again, they have a room with 3 sinks/vanities with hair dryers, q tips and other items so you can get ready before re-entering the world. Highly recommend as an alternative to a massage, great self care option to add to the mix.

The staff is amazing everytime I've talked to them or interacted with them. Warm, inviting, and kind. The facility is comfortable and spotless clean. The float pods are private and feel like a warm, cozy, and safe place. My float was amazing. I was able to turn my brain off and really relax for the first time in a week. I have two more floats on my account; I'll be back soon.
