As soon as you walk in, you are greeted by Steven's great smile and HUGGING voice! Then Tammy comes out with a bigger smile! This is the cutest toy store! It has this huge machine that plays a gazillion songs and instruments! The store is filled with old school toys like slinkies and sticky hands as well as electronic based toys. There is no better toy store than Mountain Pastimes. Even the name evokes that cozy, cabin-y, hunker-down-and-connect feeling. They have great selections of everything from novelties, to puzzles, to board games, and unlike your typical retail experience, their staff seem to really enjoy being at work. Their selection of toys is so much fun. Check out their collection of wooden play-fighting swords and things!! This is the perfect place to find you classics: Spin-top beanies, Rubik's Cube, slinky, and dominoes. On the other hand, they have the most current popular board games, art supplies, and Green Toys collection. I found one here from France that has stylistically-French characters in air vessels perfectly balanced to slowly dance around my room. Very nostalgic selection of the classic toys to bring me back to my youth and great memories. They have an awesome device called an orchestrian in the store that has all sorts of musical instruments installed in it. Pick a song and the machne will play it showing you the movements of all the instruments, Very cool. Customer service was also amazing. Arrived there 5 minutes before the store closed (without realizing their closing time) and the nice young man working there let us stay in the shop for 45 minutes; never trying to rush us out and even showing us yoyo tricks and offering up magic tricks. Fantastic place to get lost in for an afternoon. They have a big "one man band" jukebox that enthralls the kids (and they supply the nickels!). They also have a well supplies counter full of magic supplies, and there is always a magician on hand to demonstrate and amaze. Classic wooden toys, kites, games, puzzles... What a delightful store! As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by the store owner, Steve. Steve was very friendly and the store was very bright, clean and welcoming. My two young children set out to touch everything (it's what small hands do) and while I tried to keep them corralled, Steve assured me that it was okay for them to explore and made us feel at home - that was much appreciated. The selection is great and Steve was more than willing to share and demonstrate all the fun stuff he had in store. This is my go-to place for games. It's not a toy store - no teddy bears or dolls or that kind of toys. It's specifically a game store, with every board game you can think of and some you can't. Also non-board games - lots of cards, puzzles, tons of magic, some puzzle books, novelties, yo-yos, a few build-'em-yourself items like balsa planes... I love to give thought-provoking games for families and this is always my first stop. the orchestrion is a hoot and they are always ready to show you how it works. Highly recommend! Great place to find gifts (puzzle-type games/activities and toys) for ALL ages and at reasonable prices. Extremely helpful. Right before Christmas I was tasked with getting gifts for 15 cousins and was running out of time. We had a budget to abide by and I had my two children with me. When I walked into the shop, after being warmly welcomed out of the cold, I asked if I could get some help with my list. I had names and ages of the children. Staff took a picture of my list with their own phones and split up the work. They put all the items on the counter with sticky notes indicating which gifts went to each child. Once I looked over what they found, changed out a couple, then gave the okay, they gift-wrapped everything complimentary. As I waited, I got to enjoy looking around at all the fun things they had in their two-story shop. And yes, they kept me well within my budget. Thank you, Mountain Pastimes!
