My grandson and I recently found the Western Depot after moving to the area. They are extremely friendly and helpful. They have a great selection of products. It is very hard to find model railroading products in stores these days, so it's nice to have the Western Depot so close. read more

This model train store is unique with incredible selections; but a little pricey. Available scales were N, HO, O, S, and G. Owners and managers were super nice, knowledgable, helpful, and professional;Services were great. I really hope this store stays in business permanently because it's ultra rare to find model train stores like these kind. Stores are cheaper than online shopping. Parking was very easy to find. Worth visiting if you're on your way to Sierra Nevada: Certainly would return here again eventually. read more

Super friendly and helpful people. I came in with an O gauge Lionel train from the 60s with a burnt headlight. They fixed it right away after realizing I drive almost an hour to get here. They also have a great selection of model trains and even good vintage trains. They were super friendly and were very helpful on giving me tips on how to maintain an old train and tracks. I also like how they repair model trains. Awesome place and I will be returning with another Lionel train. read more

My father still has his Lionel train set from 1955, and we set them up each winter. Over the last 65 years, shockingly some parts have stopped working! We brought his coal car in, and they repaired it so that it whistles again for the first time in several decades! Then, we brought in the engine, and they fixed the front headlamp (which I broke as a kid 40 years ago...) and the smokestack, both of which are functioning perfectly! This place is great--it has a vast selection of trains, tracks, scenery, and parts for a variety of gages. The staff is very friendly and helpful, and will guide you through their stock with care. So, who knew this existed? Raise your hand! Crazy....grew up here, and apparently this business started around 1977 (if I recall my conversation here correctly). Was in a different location for awhile and then moved here. We live in the bay area and can't find this kind of resource here - that's insane. But, good news is that we still have family here, so you know this will become a repeat stop when we bring the boy to visit grandma. Very well laid out, very knowledgeable staff.....didn't have the item the boy wanted, but gave him the info as to when it would be coming out again, and by which company. I was seriously unimpressed. I went in there and was totally ignored. The guy at the counter wanted to focus on someone talking about a fantasy layout he might build someday instead of someone who had a question on something in a display case. I tried to get his attention but I guess he'd been hypnotized? Such a shame as they WOULD have made a sale if only they decided to notice there was someone else in the store and not focusing on the 'clubhouse' mindset I see all too often in hobby shops. As I left in total disgust, the guy at the counter said, "Come back soon" without looking up. I replied that I was trying to get his attention to buy something and only got noticed as I was walking out. He never even looked up and instead went back to the guy who wasn't buying anything. I'd never go back there, based on this. It's not the only time I've seen this in a hobby shop, but that's no excuse. read more

Very knowledgeable, I enjoyed talking with the employee that we met. We were specifically looking at N and HO Scale trains and they have a large selection. Prices seem close to Internet, but you can try it out and see it in person before buying, that's a big plus. They also have a website that looks like you can buy just about everything they have in store. They have a DCC n scale track set up so you can see how that works, super cool. They also had a small wooden train layout for the kids, that kept my son busy so we could look at the "big kid toys". Clean and organized store, looked like they also carry a lot of O scale, but I don't have any so I didn't look closely. read more

Best model trains store I've ever seen. Its a good size store (not big) but their inventory is outstanding, almost too much! You can spend hours going through their rolling stock in any gauge. Iv never seen more O and N stuff in one place besides maybe a model train show. They carry more in each gauge than most other stores have in the entire store. They also deal with vintage stuff (Lionel, Flyer, Marx ect). read more

Amazing customer service! They took the time to explain what we needed to add to my sons railroad track that was built into the ceiling. Needless to say everything is now running perfectly. I have lived in this area my whole life and never knew that this store was here. It is a little hidden unless you know that it's there. My son LOVES this store, He could spend hours here just exploring everything. The guys that work here are AMAZING, and SUPER friendly. You can tell that they really care about their customer's. Service is their middle name. The closest train hobby shop I have to Cottonwood is 2 1/2 hrs. away. So I have to order everything I need on line. The Western Depot is the next best thing to a hobby shop in my neighborhood. I order one day and have it in two days. I even ordered something on a Friday afternoon and got it on Monday. Amazing. It's a bit out there but well worth your drive, huge selection of each Scale with plenty of entry to advance level products. Sales staff are friendly and treat you right. They also can process online orders so you can buy from your home. read more

Beware - They advertised a new locomotive online but knew it was an opened box, used and damaged product, then would not reimburse the initial shipping or return shipping. They took my payment including shipping charges and then knowingly sent the damaged locomotive without the manufacture's (Bachmann) standard manual/literature. I researched and found the manual, a parts drawing, and then requested replacement parts since Western would not replace the locomotive same or likewise. Western sent another used broken "truck". Eventually, they admitted there were no parts available and refused to reimburse original and return shipping. Unless you have a spare $100 bucks around don't buy online from Western and probably stay away from Bachmann and they apparently cannot provided replacement parts. read more
