Staying warm before the sleigh ride!
    Jamie G.

This was one of the most amazing Christmas experiences of my life. I just read an article that they closed their doors after 35 years and it made me so sad. I am so grateful that we were able to experience this as a family. The memories from that night will last my entire life. It was just like we were in a Christmas card. The scenery and the lights and the way they made you feel the Christmas spirit the entire time you were there. The jingle bells jingling as the sleigh ride approached to take us to the barn was so exciting. The entertainment was fabulous, the food was great. We've talked about it for years. I just wanted to pop on here and say thank you for your hard work and for giving us such a wonderful experience.

Y'know the old Dr. John tune "I was in the right place, but it musta been the wrong time?" This was one of those instances. We were visiting Ririe for work and the place our employer usually recommends was booked. The management of that property recommended Mountain River Ranch since they were right across the street, and close to where we were working. The price was right, so we said "OK." MRR is in a beautiful forest setting and the property is just adorable. Tony and Cherry, the camp hosts, are really nice people, as is Annie, who I spoke with on the phone to make the reservation. We had reserved the Buffalo Bill Cabin, and were taken aback upon our arrival to discover it was a rustic cabin, which in and of itself, we don't have a problem with. What did give us pause was the lack of fans or air conditioning. Hubs is one of those guys who sweats when it's 60 degrees out, and our visit was in June, so he was pretty uncomfortable when we were there during the middle of the day. Night wasn't so bad since temps dipped down into the 40's. I found the bed to be perfectly comfortable; him, not so much. Don't get me wrong, I am not slamming Mountain River Ranch in the least. I would definitely stay at this place again at a different time of year and under different circumstances, i.e., an actual vacation, where we could chill and take in the dinner show, which I hear is wonderful. As I said before, the grounds are lovely and the location is perfect, just up the road from Heise Hot Springs. This time around, though, the nature of the property was not conducive to the purpose of the trip. Live and learn.

This is the cabin I stayed in.

I was doing some traveling last summer and found Mountain River Ranch. It was a little hard to find but a fun adventure. If you follow the signs on the surrounding buildings in the local community you will drive straight into their main entrance. Upon arrival the camp hosts Tony and Cherry greeted me and got me checked in. I stayed in Cattle Kate's which was one of the little cabins available for renting. There were many options to stay in including; a lodge, multiple cabins, teepees, a covered wagon, lots of tent space and over 60 trailer spots. When arriving to my room it was very clean and comfy. They don't have running water but they are all conveniently located next to, what appeared to be, brand new restrooms with several toilets and two showers. Very clean restrooms which were well kept and the best part was the water stayed warm for a long time! There is also a handicap accessible bathroom. I stayed for 5 days over the weekend which seemed to be a real hit for family reunions. There were two different ones going on. Lots to kept the little ones busy, MRR had nets available, horseshoes, a covered pavilion, and there was a stock fishing pond that I caught dinner on for the night! I cooked the fish over a fire in the many fire rings. Every camp space had their own picnic table as well. The hosts even offered little pony rides for the little ones which the kids enjoyed so much! Walking around the campground it was kept up to date with watering and mowing. Never seen any garbage laying around! The owners Tran and Annie King were extremely friendly always around keeping the place in the best possible condition! Along with the camp hosts. Everyone was friendly and always making sure my stay was the best possible. There was also dinner shows going on during my stay so around dinner time I got to watch horse draw wagons taking people out to eat. I decided to investigate so I booked a night for myself. Started out with a little shoot out skit in the little town. Then horse draw wagons take you out to the Meadow Muffin where we sang for our food, which was some of the best I've had, and then watched a great musical show. Finally ended the night by being taken back to the little town. The entire area seemed to be a tourist involved community. Just up the road was a pizza parlor, golf course, zip lines and a ski resort in the winter. Driving just past the ski resort it seemed to turn into the real wilderness for hiking, horseback riding and utv/atv riding. MRR was great and I would defiantly recommend it to anyone camping or doing a family reunion! It was such a fun time I will be taking family out next year!!

    Catchy little tune!

We were told two days before the wedding that there is a noise ordinance which is a county ordinance. That is fine but the time was not disclosed until the day before the wedding. We were then told we would need to move the entire wedding party for dancing inside the building. That the outside area that had concrete and lights could be used to set up tables for food but not for dancing. The venue does not have air conditioning so when it's hot outside it's not safe to have people being physical inside when you are renting the location because you want to be outside. Then at 10:00pm when you have to move everything inside with all doors shut it gets extremely hot. We had the police called out twice, the first at 8:00 pm and the second at 8:45 pm which were well before the noise ordinance time. Nothing like having police lights pull up to your event and people wondering what's happening and nothing is. You're also going want to know that the wasps are really bad. Obviously, you are outside, so we expected mosquitos and flies, but the wasp traps were completely full. We told the staff we had issues at the rehearsal and were told they knew it was a problem, but you'll have to empty them and get new ones if you want. We had a couple of people get stung and anyone eating outside had to deal with them flying all around you and your food. This event venue is expensive and there comes with that a level of expectations and customer service you aren't going to get. It's a lot of "sorry" but deal with it attitude. Parking close to the venue is an issue and the signage to the location is not well marked for guests who have not been there. If you have a large party plan to have golf carts or UTV's to bring people from the farthest parking lot. It's too far walk when you're dressed nicely or in heels. The speaker system is fine, but most DJ's want to use their own equipment and not plug into another system due to worry about breaking what they have. Which they don't allow and have someone coming to your event on the hour to check and see that you're following all the rules. Basically, if you want to spend a lot of money for an outdoor wedding this is not the best choice.

This was my first time staying in an honest to goodness Conestoga wagon, and it was truly luxurious. Not words I ever imagined typing. Pulling into Moose Creek Ranch was not immediately remarkable, but beginning to walk the grounds, I felt the persistent mountain breeze, heard the babbling Trail Creek, and saw the peaceful natural surroundings and well-manicured grounds all commanding my recognition. Then there were the comfortable environs of the ranch buildings, inclusive of the cozy lodge room, a game area, and a spot for breakfast, all with a chill music soundtrack wafting through. The staff were friendly through and through. We took advantage of a trail ride with Biscuit, our wrangler, the morning of the 4th of July, and enjoyed his capable, humorous guidance through a forest trail near the Ranch, capably tailed by Rooster the resident corralling canine. And now back to the Conestoga wagon. These things boasted bunk beds and a king size, with a full bathroom, small sitting area, pre-stocked mini bar with room for your own items, plentiful plugs/USB ports, and a highly capable mini-split AC system. Ridiculous (in a good way)! If the original Westward Ho movement had these things, Manifest Destiny would have hinged on thread-count, and we'd have never made it past Ohio. These things would be the Airstreams of the 1800s. Loved the experience. This might be the experience you needed, even if you didn't know it.

However, when you have 8 or 10 families splitting that price, it can be an affordable option. We tend to stay for an entire week. Nestled in the back corner of St. Anthony, Idaho, you can see the Tetons from the lodge and it's surrounded by grain and hay fields. (If you have allergies, be sure to bring your pills!) There is also a small-ish pond nearby with a couple canoes that you can play in. With 11 queen beds and a bunk bed, this sleeps a lot of adults (and you can pitch some tents outside as well on their large lawn and field). There is also a bunk room that sleeps at minimum 16 kids, 20 or more if they're little. It's a great place to dump all the cousins and grand kids at night. There are also 6 bathrooms, a washer & dryer, and wireless internet (though it can be dreadfully slow and spotty and different places in the lodge... they need to add a signal extender or another base station). There's a hot tub, tennis court, baseball diamond, volleyball net, air hockey, climbing wall, giant building blocks, ping pong, foosball, pool, and more. There's a slide that goes down into the bunk room and a separate small gym with balls and scooters and another slide for kids to play in. Basically, kids come here and play play play play play, and as a parent that's exactly what you're looking for. Low maintenance, high enjoyability. The kitchen is spectacular with two large industrial refrigerators, two ovens, and a large freezer and a deep freeze. There is also plenty of cupboard space. The kitchen comes stocked, but the quality of the cookware is sub-par (to be expected). If you're particular about your knives, you'll want to bring your own. The ones at the lodge are dreadfully dull. With a Broulim's grocery store just down the street as well, food is never too far away. As an added bonus, there's a large dumpster out back by a shed where you can toss your garbage once the cans fill up. One thing you should be aware of is that with a pond nearby, there are mosquitoes everywhere. Be sure to bring your spray or you'll be eaten alive. All in all, this is perhaps the best reunion center we've found to date. It comes highly recommended in my book.

***This place is now closed... ****…read more ....but it was saved also by an anonymous donor, whom then donated the property and cabins to the National Park for employee housing. We absolutely adore (former owners and Moulton Ranch hosts) Hal and Iola Blake.. and had stayed here numerous times. We ate dinner with the two one evening and it was a privilege. They were, and still are, wonderful people, whom sold the facility after having run it for many years. When we did stay here, Hal and/or Iola were up from sunrise to sunset doing yardwork, maintenance. They truly poured their heart and soul into this place. It was an absolute honor to have stayed here. I recall numerous times during various stays here, we'd awaken around 3 AM and go outside and saw more stars than ever before. We saw bear on the property during several stays. We saw buffalo stampedes running down the gravel road in front/back in fields as well. I also recall, from our cabin window, we saw a buffalo stand off against horses in a field. The National Park kept horses in a nearby field, fenced, and a buffalo jumped the fence.. as it did, the horses lined up shoulder to shoulder and stared at the buffalo. The buffalo looked at them, then trotted and jumped over the other side of the fence, as it was "cutting through." We also saw a coyote sleeping by our cabin during the day. We will never forget our stays at this place, nor the views. It was an absolute gem, close the to Park, along Mormon Row. I am betting we took 1000 pictures during our numerous stays at this place. The accommodations were always comfortable, spotless clean, and the owners were amazing hosts. I wish Hal and Iola Blake, and their family, the absolute best in their retirement, as they were two of the nicest, most genuine, down-to-earth people we've ever met anywhere. I cannot imagine we'll ever stay at a more scenic, hidden-gem place ever again in our lifetime.. anywhere. We certainly may never meet nicer people than the Blakes. We really got to know them during our numerous stays here. They are blessed people. I will always smile when recalling our 5 pm walks down the gravel road, petting horses, smelling the mountain air, with mountains in all directions. I will also never forget our first stay here, years ago... what a spectacular experience we had each stay....

Great place to completely unplug and you are minutes from everything the Grand Teton National Park has to offer. The grounds were fine, but the incident…read morethat occurred at Juniper Campground in Ririe, Idaho, on the evening of Saturday, September 13, 2025 left a very bitter taste in our mouths about the trip. What was intended to be a joyful family outing turned into a distressing experience due to the conduct of the camp host. My father-in-law and his wife had made a reservation at Juniper Campground for the weekend and invited my family to join them--myself, my two sons, and our grandchildren. We were all excited to spend quality time together and to try out our newly purchased travel trailers. As first-time trailer owners, this was meant to be a fun and educational experience before the camping season ended. Unfortunately, I had previously purchased concert tickets for an event at Mountain America Center in Idaho Falls scheduled for Saturday evening. My sons and I decided to briefly leave the campground to attend the concert and return afterward. We left in the early evening and returned around 10:20 PM. Upon arrival, we found the second entry gate--through which we had originally entered--locked with a padlock. We then drove to the first gate, which had rising arms and red LED lights, but it did not respond. I exited the vehicle to search for an intercom or manual override, but found none. While attempting to look up a contact number, a white truck with an orange cone in the back approached rapidly. The driver, who identified himself as the camp host, immediately confronted me in an aggressive and profane manner. He shouted, "What the hell are you doing at my gate?" I calmly explained that we were campers returning from a concert and were trying to re-enter the campground. He responded with hostility, saying, "The gates are locked at 10 PM. Didn't you read the rules?" I replied that we had not received any rules, as my 78-year-old father-in-law had checked in first and inadvertently failed to pass them along while we were focused on setting up our trailers. The host continued to berate me, accusing me of lying and using profanity such as "Bullsh*t, everybody receives the rules." When asked for our campsite number, I was momentarily unsure, as my father-in-law had directed us to our spot upon arrival. While I searched for the information, the host continued to question our motives, saying, "Why are you leaving and returning to the campsite this time of night?" I explained our concert plans, only to be met with further disbelief and ridicule. He mocked my Van Halen t-shirt and claimed, "Nobody goes camping to leave for a concert," and "Those bands sucked. The last time I saw Van Halen was in 1979." At this point, I attempted to clarify our situation, but the host warned me that if I raised my voice, he would not allow us back into the campground. After locating a screenshot of our reservation details, I showed it to him. He finally allowed us entry and handed me a printed copy of the rules, stating, "Next time, read the rules." This interaction left me feeling humiliated, belittled, and treated as though I were a criminal. The camp host's behavior was not only unprofessional but bordered on harassment. I understand the importance of rules and quiet hours, but they should be enforced with courtesy and respect--not hostility and profanity. I am deeply disappointed by this experience and will not be returning to Juniper Campground. I'm leaving this review to ensure others are aware of the treatment we received. Guests deserve to feel safe and welcomed--not intimidated or verbally abused.
