I have had the worst experience with this company. when getting the permit they failed to send the proper information to the DMV forcing me to reschedule that appointment. Then, and let me be clear that I am not challenging the test results, but it was suggested that my displeasure was simply that. The instructor that took my child out for her drive test completely ignored me upon arrival and during the result discussion. She did not take any time to explain the process to myself or my child, and when I contacted the owner he completely excused this behavior. As an adult, taking my minor child somewhere where she will be in a vehicle without me present, it is deplorable to even suggest that I don't need to be addressed in any way. Do NOT go to this company for drivers training of any sort. Very disappointed and will be going somewhere else. read more

This is specifically for the Longmont office on S. Main St. My daughter and I just had a very bad experience there and I think it's worth warning others. We signed up for a driver's test and that process was fine. We arrived a few minutes early for the test. The receptionist was friendly and told us to go into the back room where our tester was located. The woman who did the driver's test (named Theresa) had an intimidating demeanor (and interestingly, a sign on her desk that said 'be kind') and my first impression was that she really doesn't like her job and I hope this can somehow still go well. It didn't. Without any greeting she gruffly told me daughter to go out to the car and she would be there in a minute. During the test all she said to her was where to turn, no attempt to break the ice or acknowledge my daughter's nervousness, which would have helped so much. Upon returning, she told us to wait while she put the results into her computer and then shared the result, which was that my daughter failed the test. And then she immediately offered for us to reschedule for "as soon as tomorrow" which was a flag for me. My daughter's driving experience far exceeded the 50 hrs required and I knew she was more than ready for the test so was very surprised at the result. After thinking about our experience, I now know that there's a business opportunity here for the unethical: to try to fail people and then make more money from them doing more than one test. I am not going to say for sure that that is what happened here, but the thought certainly crossed my mind and other parents I have talked to since have had similar experiences here. We did schedule another test the next day (which my daughter passed with a 19/20 score) at Conahan's in Loveland. The instructor there greeted us with a friendly smile and wave and was extremely relaxed and chatted with my daughter, setting her at ease. She was extremely nervous after her experience with Theresa so I was really grateful. I highly recommend Conahan's even if it's more of a drive. read more

My driving instructor had an attitude from the moment I set eyes on him. I could feel his abusiveness, and he sure was! I have been driving since I was 16 years old; I'm now a very healthy 75 year old.I have never had a DUI or ticket. I drove during my test perfectly other than what he claimed I often drove a bit under the speed limit in town driving during late afternoon traffic. He even screamed at me for slowing down in an intersection with no stop signs. Why did I do this? Because people often hit people in intersections even with stop signs so why not be safe. Look before you continue. His screaming made me nervous! He grabbed the wheel from me because I pulled into a left turn lane slower than he thought I should, claiming people behind me could backend me. Really? Well I've learned that people who hit you from behind are responsible. Then he flunked me! Personally I believe he did this because of my age, and the extra money I would have to give Mountain States to take the text again. Sorry but I'll go somewhere else! read more

Awful experience! Do not waste your time or money on this so called company. I have no idea how they are still in business. Scheduled a driving lesson at the Longmont location for 2 hours. We arrived 13 minutes early, 2:47pm, and the receptionist was cordial at least. The instructor was sitting close by and looked completely annoyed to be there even after smiling at her and trying to explain my wife was nervous. She said she could start right away but it was after 3pm before the lesson actually started. At 4:30 My wife called and said she was done. When I questioned the instructor why there was half an hour cut off on the 2 hour lesson we paid for she lied and said she started at 2:40. After telling her that was inaccurate she very rudely said "do you want me to go back out with her for 15 minutes". My wife specifically asked to work on parking and reversing and the instructor's reply was we can cover that in the next session, obviously trying to rope us in to wasting more money with this outfit. You'll have the opportunity to practice on stick and manual as well as multiple types of vehicles (Trucks, Sedans, Hybrids, etc). After my experience with MSDS . I wanted to write a review. I was treated unfairly based solely on my age. The instructor who facilitated my driving test made me feel very uncomfortable from the start. He had a bad attitude from the moment he set eyes on me. THE INSTRUCTOR was RUDE, UNPROFESSIONAL, CONDESENDINGAND, AND TALKING DOWN TO ME. he school suggested I would be able to drive one of their cars. When I arrived I did not realized it would be a high performance Cougar. Who in their right mind would allow a women in the 70's to take a driving test with that car . I've had my driver license since I was 16. Also, I do have a good driving history. He was VERY SARCASTIC . This car was his personal vehicle. Big deal, With his wonderful attitude I realize this was not going to be a good out come. He had no intention on passing me I would recommend people not going to this school. Terrible Service. Terrible Quality. Good Instructors, but I am so tired of dealing with this business. If possible, schedule a driver's test anywhere else but here. I have been lied to over the phone on multiple occasions. They do not seem to be able to schedule anything themselves, it feels like you, as the customer, have to pry any date from them. If you, for whatever reason, are unable to suck up to every demand of theirs, regardless of your initial agreement, they will not refund your money, and try and refer you to one of their other locations, which isn't a possibility. I've recently had a conversation where, and I quote, "We could set you up in Longmont for your driver's test, could you drive there?" I couldn't possibly drive there, that is the whole point in me taking this test. I full-heartedly believe that the slogan on their website is a complete farce, and that this company is in desperate need of competition. I have nothing against the people who work here, the instructors I have spoke to have been fine. But to finish this rant I am going on, I would like to say that I have sincerely despised trying to schedule anything with this company, I hope that changes for the better for people other than me. read more

extremely poor customer service. had an appointment. showed up 10 minutes early. no one in front office. one guy outside tinkering with car. another guy in with kids doing testing. someone else hiding in a back room somewhere. 10 minutes after our appointment we get acknowledged. they take our $60 (cash only!!! :() and my daughters permit. and finally another 10 minutes later they finally start her test. 20 minutes after our appointment supposedly started. dmv is not doing driving tests right now so apparently that means they dont need to be polite or offer good custimer service. because people need to come regardless. i would recommend going elsewhere. employees are rude unenthisiastic provide extremely poor customer service. they definitely do not deserve your money or business. go elsewhere!!! 2 years ago when they had to work at it a little bit because dmv also did testing they were much much better. not anymore. recommend calling around!!! these guys suck. My youngest son has failed the test for his PERMIT 4 times and the instructor told his class that the most Aggressive driver gets the Right of way at a 4 way stop... Also, they never answer their phones and then when you finally reach someone or they decide to casually call you back at 5:00 pm you get a rude and unprofessional person who is trying to make things difficult. I didn't pay for my child to be given the wrong information or for his confidence to be shot down for not being able to pass his permit test. Will never recommend this place again! read more

Rude and unprofessional. Go anywhere else. The instructors fail drivers with tricks and then "inform" them of what horrible drivers they are. After which, they tell you to book and pay for another test. My son's examiner was a pompous asshole and completely disrespectful. When we asked for reasons for the failed test he became aggressive and and yelled incoherently. My son tested and passed just fine two days later with another company. I scheduled my diving appointment and showed up a little early to complete paperwork. 3 people were in the office as I showed and as I greeted each one politely it was all any of them could do to even share a "hello". Tension filled the room and they all seemed they did not like to even work there. Be careful on your driving test. The instructor will take you through a neighborhood with no speed limit signs. The view at the stop signs will be partially blocked and you will need to creep closer to the street to view cross traffic. In 3 miles I was marked fail for not stopping behind the sidewalk 15 times. We never made that many stops. I'm sure they have other tricks to fail you if they wanted. I passed. I drove like my grandmother to do so plus I've been driving for 35 years with a great record. I felt like I learned a lot while taking this course! I took the in-person 4 week class at the DMV in Longmont, and while 8 hours in a day seemed very long, the instructor was personable and willing to answer any and all questions. The environment was easy to focus in, if a little sleepy. Price-wise, the class was expensive as with every program, but definitely worth the money for the time from the instructor and everything I learned. read more

Do NOT waste or money on the online course, they give you photo copied worksheets that are unreadable then tell you to use a magnifying glass to read it. $550 freaking dollars and they can't even make decent copies. Took the drivers test here and arrived early. By the time she got out to the car she said we barely had enough time to take the test. Told me I had 1 min to adjust to her car. Felt very rushed which only heightened my test anxiety. Could barely see out of her car and she didn't offer me anything to help. There were no speed limit signs on the street. Gave very unclear directions and when I asked for clarification she yelled at me. The good reviews are because they bribe their students with a pizza party for a review. My daughter had her test and the person was over a half an hour late. Made her sit in the car in the hot sun while he did paperwork. She missed one thing on the test and it was an automatic fail. She cleans up in social settings, had the worst anxiety going into the test and the guy in Foco Crushed her. Like hey you fail so we can charge you again for the test. I hear this frequently about this place. They fail people to make them retake the test for more money. Definitely go somewhere else read more

My son drove with Theresa in Longmont today. When we set up this lesson we asked for a teacher that was good with kids with anxiety. From the moment we walked in I knew it was going to be awful. We were not greted with a hello or how are you or a smile. We were rudely greeted with "How many hours do you have". "Here's the keys, go start the car." Theresa was on her phone for half of the lesson, did not speak to my son nor give advice or instruction. She didn't give him time to adjust the mirrors or seats for himself. He even tried to make conversation and was ignored. She was rude to me as well. My son has driven with two other instructors at Mountain States who were both kind and professional. This is my third kid to get a drivers license. We have used Connahan's in the past and that is where we will be heading now. Stay away from Theresa at Mountain States Driving in Longmont. read more

Good communication before the class at the Longmont location. Proper covid precautions. Wish they would offer an 8 week 4 hr class option. The 8 hr days are long especially for kids that have been in school all week. Wish they still offered the permit test as part of the class. Mountain States Drivers Education provide driving test by unprofessional Examiner which was a truck driver. My daughter took driving test and failed, the only reason told by the examiner was driving too slow, about 5-10 miles slower than the speed limit! My daughter was driving around 40 miles an hour on commercial area (Harmony Road, Shield Road, in Fort Collins) which has 50 mph speed limit. He then asked my daughter to book for the next test, which meant has to paid for another driving test fee. I asked the examiner which Colorado traffic law that said one has to drive precisely at speed limit, because that is the only reason he failed her. He became furious, saying driving slower than the traffic is dangerous, but most cars travelling on Harmony Road, Shield Road are over speed limit. Then I asked the examiner to give me a copy of the driving test, he outright declined to give me, saying his company cannot give driving test results out., which is weird! Then he told us not to come back to his place to take the driving test! I seriously take his advice not to come back, and warn others not to go there for driving test! This private driving test place deliberately failed people in order to make money for driving test fee! My daughter passed driving test and has a Colorado driver license for 10 years. She went abroad for more than 1 year that her Colorado Driver License Expired over 1 year. She also passed driving test in other country and has a driver license oversea. She had no traffic ticket or traffic accident since her 16 birthdays. She has been an experienced, a careful and perfect driver on record. read more

He was already incredibly nervous and her unfriendliness made it so much worse. Should've read the reviews before we came, go somewhere else. Be careful choosing Mountain States for the driving test, especially in Windsor. They will have your child drive through a residential area and then turn onto main street at the far east side of town and the only speed limit sign that can be seen is a 45mph sign. Then they will fail your child for going 10 or more over the limit because they didn't know they were in a 30 mph zone when they turned onto the main road. I guess that is an easy way to grab an additional $60 from you because that was an automatic fail. Very deceitful and when you ask the owner, he wont do anything but ask you what the Colorado statute is that covers residential speed limits. He will not address the situation as it happened, because he wants that additional $60. Save yourself time and money and go to Conahan's. read more

The owner has a poor attitude and horrible customer service. We are taking full responsibility that to our sons driving test we were 20 minutes late. The instructor made it seem like it wasn't a big deal and just to re-schedule with him. Come to find out it's $160 fee, ok. But then we went to my sons next appointment and the instructor ended up being 20 minutes late hiimself arguing with the lady in the front office saying in front of us that what she did is why he's running late. Then apologizing to us and telling my son to go wait in the car by himself and when he finally got to the car he complained about the office being so unorganized. I made five phone calls having to explain and give our apologies for being late and asking to speak to the owner and each person telling me they understood what happened and would forward a message to him and each time he never got in touch with me. No one gave me an answer to my situation, they just kept saying they would forward the message to the owner. I wrote an email to say please let me know about this fee. When he finally responds he was rude right from the get-go. after I sent him another email explaining that one of his instructors was late with my son by the same amount of time and maybe it could be a wash, he still never even responded to me as of this day. we didn't complain about the instructor being late at the time or ask them for reimbursement so I was hoping for understanding and not a rude demeanor and maybe a hey you were late we were wait let's try to come to an understanding. Not good office customer service or professionalism and the worst was just the attitude of the owner. Save yourself and go to Conahan's, they are awesome! read more

I have used Mountain States Driving School in the past and have had no complaints. It was professional and friendly. This time with my younger daughter there was a misunderstanding about a scheduled lesson missed during the COVID shutdown, the new front desk person was incredibly rude. He was degrading in his tone and childish in his words and actions when I explained that I had worked out the missed lesson over the phone several months ago. They refused to continue my daughter's lessons unless I paid the fee of $130 even though I was told over the phone it would be waived. After I had spoken with him for several minutes and paid for the missed lesson, I asked to speak with the manager. By the time she came out to speak with me it was clear she was unwilling to hear what I had to say after speaking with the employee. The employee stood behind the manager while she spoke with me and nodded while she dismissed my complaints. I have never been so humiliated by a customer service team, and will not be returning after our already paid for lessons are finished. I would like to add that despite the management, my daughter's instructor was very kind. read more

When I finally got through they were rude and didn't care my teen daughter wasn't comfortable with being in the car alone with a male instructor. Taught tons of important information, but taught it in a stressful and boring way. When students didn't pass a test, they got humiliated in front of everyone in the class by the teacher, because she would announce that they failed in front of everybody. Teacher taught while having students take notes and that's hard because writing and listening at the same time is a great challenge. Textbook chapters were super long and we got barely enough time to read it all and do a worksheet. Our teacher thought we could read much faster than we actually could. We did learn a lot of useful information, though. read more

My daughter took a driving test today and the instructor did nothing but tell her what she did wrong. I asked if he had anything positive to say and he didn't. If you have a child that struggles with anxiety, stay away from this business, they didn't coach her on what she could do differently and even went on to say that she shouldn't come back in a week to take the test. My son, who is 18, took just the driver's test a few months ago. He did not pass due to VERY minor things. 1. When approaching road work, he checked for other traffic before moving over in his lane. I guess he went into the other lane and causing him to not get his license. 2. His hand placement was not correct, when turning the stirring wheel for a turn. He scheduled another test and passed that with the Mountain States. He received very little feedback and was handed a piece of paper with ZERO instructions on how to obtain his actual Driver's License. It's been beyond frustrating trying to obtain an appointment for his actual license. It's a bummer that after paying $120 to take the driver's test they can't help with next steps during a very unclear time (DMV's website is frustrating and unclear). Unless you are going here for actual driving classes, I would avoid using this place for your road test only. read more

I was a student of theirs and doing their driving classes was honestly some of the most fun I've ever had! I definitely recommend these guys, but I'm shocked at how low of a rating they have received. Don't let that fool you! Their behind-the-wheel driving sessions practice vital skills, and along with that, it's a lot of fun to drive with them. The instructors are friendly and gave me a ton of laughs. I haven't seen the driving test options, so i can not speak on it's behalf. However, if you are interested in lessons, definitely go here! Both the in-person classes and the behind the wheel lessons are very informational, and will help you prepare for your permit/driver's license test. read more

When my daughter went to take her test they were rude to her and me. They made her feel very anxious. The testing area is loud and chaotic. It would have been a better environment at the DMV. Horrible! Waste of money. Don't use them. My fiancé slid of ice a few feet at a stop sign and that is the only reason she failed. They would not wave the cost for taking the test again even though she failed only on a technicality. Manager wouldn't even get on the phone to tell me him self that they would charge us another $40 to take the test again. He had his secretary tell me. What a rip off. It's this whole rip off mentality that is so disappointing about this day and age. read more
