I had put on a spinner and cast it out twice on the second cast the rod splits in 2 pieces and broke. Went back to the Sail store to replace the rod and they said because it was not a clean break "whatever that means" they would not exchange it and that I would have to do it under warranty through St. Croix. Bought five days ago used once on second cast and breaks on a spinner, they should be replacing this rod right on the spot. After-tax this rod cost me $225 and to not replace the rod is criminal. I have had one other rod break on me throughout the years of fishing and at that store "which will remain nameless" replaced the Rod for me right On the spot. Then to go on saying that because they are bankrupt they cannot do anything for me is also criminal, full of excuses to not give me what I paid for especially after breaking after one use and only 5 days old. I am obviously an avid fisherman and spent a lot of money on fishing products but the SAIL store will be the very last place I ever go to to buy anything for fishing the worst company ever. If in fact they are going bankrupt this is just one of the reasons why.

Take this review with a grain of salt-- it's strictly relative to all the other baitshops we've…read morebeen to. That said, the store is objectively quite good. The people who work there are nice (which is surprisingly unusual for a baitshop in Ontario), the prices are good (ditto; its a great spot to stockup on extra tackle and such en-route to your fishing spot), and the minnows are quite vigorous. In our experience driving across Ontario, you usually get to pick one of those things. No other shop we've seen has managed to hit all three. We've gotten fairly resigned to a sizable percentage (sometimes half) of the minnows dying before we get a chance to use them, but that just isn't the problem here. Every single unused minnow we bought is still alive and well in my cooler over a day later, and aside from a few that seem to have died from oxygen deprivation while we were changing fishing spots, we didn't lose any en-route. The only cons are: the place is a little bit hard to find (it's behind the Husky, and in a little corner unit that's a bit hard to spot), and occasionally their hours change a bit. So you may want to call in to be sure they're open at times. Still, the location is handy if you're going up North from the GTA to fish, and they're near Bass Pro (their reputation is good enough that the fellows at Bass Pro were the ones that originally directed us here), so its a great one-stop spot to replenish equipment as well as bait and tackle.
