My two children, 4 and 6, have been in the water a lot and been in many different lessons. But the fun and excitement both kids showed after just one lesson here was incredible. It is clear that there is a well thought out and intentional curriculum involved in each lesson. I feel confident that as we commence through the lessons, both my children will grow in not only their skills but more importantly their confidence around the water. A simple, yet clammy, indoor pool with a couple diving boards and one small slide, this isn't the first place I think of taking my children on a hot summer day. However, it's the perfect place to take children for swimming lessons. In fact, years ago the Idaho Falls Aquatic Center out-parented me. All three of my children took swimming lessons there. Years before, when we lived in Utah, I took my youngest to a Mommy/Tot class at the local swimming pool. He hated it. While all the other toddlers complaisantly bobbed in the water with doting parents, my child would have none of it. For the length of his lesson I would stand in the shallow end while he would climb the stairs, jump into the water, climb, jump, climb, jump, until someone blew the whistle to cue the blessed end of swimming lessons (because surprisingly, standing idly in my swimming suit before watchful parents and teenage lifeguards is not my idea of a good time). Needless to say, I was more than a little worried when I enrolled the aforementioned child in a parentless class one summer at the IF Aquatic Center which strongly discourages parents from watching lessons poolside. You are asked to observe from a balcony above the pool, complete with plate-glass windows--far from being able to swoop in and carry a belligerent child to a private time-out. And for some reason, eliminating that possibility for parental intervention makes it much easier for instructors to prevent that belligerent behavior in the first place. It was fabulous! Not only could I watch their lessons far from all the action, but I could observe as very attentive teachers kept children on task as they learned how to swim. So while I wouldn't recommend this pool for a fun getaway, I would definitely recommend it for swimming lessons.

THE WATER!!! The #1 reason to go to this particular hot…read moresprings is for the heavenly, perfect-temperature, SPARKLING CLEAN WATER (which is emptied and refilled OFTEN). It's SO worth the 1-hour drive from Idaho Falls - a drive we make nearly every week. THE POOLS! There are TWO POOLS to choose from: a huge, INDOOR, sloped (from very shallow, to 8 feet at the deep end), kid-friendly pool - which is perfectly warm and comfortable YEAR-ROUND; and a smaller, separate HOT POOL (I'd guess around 103-105 degrees) which is sometimes uncovered (the roof opened) so you can enjoy the beautiful night sky - and even rain or snow - while you soak! FYI, the roof is typically closed / covered in the winter, and during periods of cold weather. The big warm pool has a basketball hoop and a volleyball net, so bring those toys along! They welcome them. THE BURGERS! But if those are not enough reasons for you to check out Green Canyon Hot Springs, then just try their AMAZING BURGERS! The FRESH BEEF just melts in your mouth. And the toppings are garden-fresh, too. I always get mine with tomatoes and grilled onions - it's to die for! Remember, they're "made to order", so order in advance (and don't be discouraged by a little bit of a wait. It's totally worth it!) Plan to spend around $5-$7 per burger. (These are HIGH QUALITY, restaurant-rival burgers - NOT frozen, fast-food fare!) The snack bar also offers fountain drinks, cold canned sodas, and snacks - such as chips and candy - at very fair prices. THE STAFF! Another thing I love about Green Canyon Hot Springs is the super-friendly staff, lifeguards, and owners, everywhere you go! They are always happy and friendly, and will answer your questions about anything you want to know. Kindness is the #1 rule at this place. Great ambiance! And *super* kid-friendly. THE FACILITY Secret: They have picnic tables INSIDE if you want to bring your own food and eat there! You may want to bring a table cloth. They also have outlets and don't mind if you plug in a crock pot there! (Again, awesome owners. ) Additionally, they have benches along the side of the big pool (outside the fence, prior to the payment window) where those who do NOT want to swim may wait and watch their family or friends swim (spectator seats). Sure, the building is quite old (but it's *very* sturdy and safe, of course!) The 'look' may not be updated to modern decor standards or whatever; and the dressing rooms are rather simple (we like to wear sandals / flip flops). But these are minor things when compared to the A+ WATER QUALITY and temperature, and many other perks this facility provides. So, we are now 4 for 5: FOUR fantastic perks; and just one less-desirable aspect (the facility / dressing rooms) that isn't actually a big deal (at least to me). As for me, I can live without the fancy aesthetics if I have CLEAN WATER, NICE-SIZED POOLS, GREAT FOOD, and KIND, KID-FRIENDLY PEOPLE! It's a wonderful place to make memories with family and friends. DEFINITELY worth checking out! It's one of our favorites! Also check out their nice little campground next door! NOTE: Their hours fluctuate seasonally. Be sure to check the hours they're open before you drive out there.

Drop in was only $10 and it was good until midnight. So if I wanted a two a day session, that would have worked. That's pretty cool. I've never been to a Golds so I'm not too familiar with the basics of each facility. This gym was huge. They could have easily fit more equipment in there, which I think they should. I only saw 3 benches and only one was not an adjustable incline. The incline benches are too tall for me, so I'm glad no one was using the one I needed. Pulleys and free weights we're in great shape, not battered. I appreciated having solid benches. Some places I go to are wiggly and it makes for an interesting inclinded overhead press. Anywho.... Thanks for being there Gold's and thanks for the easy and cheap dropping in! Next time in town I'll stop in. It's good to know there's options when you don't want to take time off from training.
