So I have never been a fan of stopping in specialty places like this off the side of the highway. Driving through Wisconsin there were signs for "Cheese Chalet" and maybe 10 more cheese type places with puns for names. However, my travel companion was insistent on stopping for cheese and I'm so glad I obliged. This place was amazing! First of all, talk about cute - there's a mouse ontop of the building! The place is well-staffed, too, with friendly salespeople never sighing when you request your tenth sample of the cheese. There's a wide selection of beer, cheese, cheese spreads, cheese curds, fudge, wine and even little gifts like you would find in a Hallmark. We walked away with so much cheese and fudge and beer! And you know what, it was all delicious! I picked out a gouda with fenugreek (nutty and rich) as well as a dark beer cheese. The cookies and cream fudge almost tops the rocky road fudge, although I'm kind of wishing I would have gone for the mint chocolate fudge too. This touristy cheese and gift shop is a great place to pick up last minute gifts for friends and family (as I did) but the cheese is not as fresh as other local cheese shops and definitely higher priced. They do have an extensive variety of cheeses, including a ton of flavored cheese curds, but they are not super fresh. There are many samples of curds and spreads out to taste and the employees will cut you a slice of any cheese you want to sample. They also have a little deli counter with made to order sandwiches. I was traveling thru Wisconsin and decided to check out this store for the World Famous Wisconsin Cheese. The store has all kinds of cheese with different ages. The staff is very helpful and patient and friendly as you ask about the different cheeses and you can sample any cheese you like to try. They also Cary different wines and Wisconsin brewed beers as well as different fudges. Parking is large enough for campers or trucks but not to many. Lot probably can handle 4 trucks or campers. It is located beside Super 8 hotel and A&W Restaurant, so as to be convenient for a night stopover if passing thru like myself. Definitely recommend stopping by and purchase some Wisconsin Cheese and beverage. read more

They had the Friendliest staff, with workers eager to give samples of fudge and cheese. You could've sampled all day for all they minded. We bought fudge- the deal was buy one pound, get half a pound for free. How could we pass that up? That's SIX types of fudge. Delicious. The shop is great as well. Drives into WI are not new to me, family trips during my childhood are some of my fondest memories. But my parents were never ones to make leisurely stops so whenever the chance comes up to stop somewhere cute or kitschy, I HAVE to stop. I think the prices are reasonable as this most recent time I bought 2 blocks of Buffalo Cheddar, 2 bags of cheese curds, a small tub of bacon cheddar spread and 6 pack bottles of Spotted Cow for only $20plus. Service is super friendly. They offered us some samples of cheese and offered to place some of my items on the counter for me so I could be hands free to shop some more. I love cheese! This place is like, I imagine, many others throughout Wisconsin. But since I went to this one and liked it, 5 stars. We stopped here on a road trip and was happy to see it open before 10. Walking in we saw more than just a cheese house. They had specialty gifts, wine, beer and fudge amongst a haven of cheese. The people who worked here were incredibly helpful and friendly. They were happy to give advice about what beer we would like and happily cut samples of cheese. Although we only left with a 6 pack of Wisconsin only beer for $9.99, I was tempted to buy much much more. It is possible we will stop on our way back! read more

I like that this place has a big selection of craft beers. They have a mix and match section which is $9.99 for a 6 pack. That is pretty standard pricing. The guy was very knowledgeable and gave me recommendations as to what I would like. They have a huge cheeses, wine, fudge and specialty food items. You could sample whichever cheese you wanted, many of them unique. We know Wisconsin is full of cheese and boy did this place deliver. We couldn't visit Wisconsin without a trip We had low expectations since it looked cheesy (yes I said it) from the outside and we expected this place to be a regular liquor store. But it is truly a wonderful world of cheese, fudge, great wine end beer selections. they have a table where you can sample any of their many cheese spreads. Here are some of the flavors: taco, smoked, port wine, bacon, pumpkin, cranberry, garlic, etc. So many choices, so little money unfortunately. Then there was the selection of blocks of every kind of cheese. The staff was very knowledgable and helpful. You can sample pretty much everything besides the alcohol, of course. There's something at the now better than ever, newly remodeled Mousehouse for everyone! Some in my family like the bathroom (newly remodeled!!), others like the fudge, one likes the liverwurst sandwich another likes the New Glarus beer but I LOVE buying a block of Mousehouse Jack to take home and use when making a variety of dishes such as macaroni and cheese. A little underwhelming. Wasn't many options when we came in and the "souvenir" part was lacking. Inside was a ghost town.

We always seem to miss these cheese shops passing through the Dells. We stopped here coming back from Des Plaines in Oct., and it's right off the exit. As you enter there is a display of fudge, but they only want to cut it for you on the way out. Next are all the gadgets and gifts. I got some cool reading glasses, a ghost cheese spreader, body shampoo, a WI shot glass, cheese slicer. We were hosting the upcoming fountain pen meeting and bought a great variety of meats and cheeses. One large beef summer sausage I brought to my thanksgiving hostess. Picked up a cranberry jelly, various crackers. I got to sample all the cheese spreads, and settled on the sharp cheddar. I loved the beef and cheese snack pack because they came in small bites. We left with a few sundries, and of course the fudge. Be prepared to drop at least $100. And this was us restraining ourselves. read more

They always have a bunch of samples out, but they will also open anything you want to try. They have a bunch of strange and new flavors that you've never heard of, but are utterly delicious! Today we purchased their mousehouse jack which was on special and their French onion soup cheddar. Spice lovers get ready because they have a big variety of spicy cheeses like ghost pepper, Carolina reaper, and of course smoked habanero for those not as adventurous but still like the heat. Every time we stop we get a grilled cheese too. They have 5 choices of cheese, 5 choices of bread, a bunch of condiments and toppings so you can make it your own. I had fun picking out cheese from the huge selection, our lunch order was decent, the cheese was ok, and we really loved the summer sausage we picked. I can't say the employees were overwhelmingly friendly and/or helpful as no one really greeted me, offered to help me, and when I was ready to place an order I had to ask for someone to come to the counter so I could order. As far as our lunch order, a Ruben and mozerella, tomato, basil sandwich, is concerned, we both felt they were average. There was nothing really to complain about, but also nothing to really get excited about. We tried 5 different cheeses, buffalo cheddar, cranberry Munster, salami colby, olive provolone, and another with dill. While they were all good, only the buffalo was really flavorful, the rest while they weren't bad, again it wasn't anything I would get too excited about. I did like the garlic summer sausage and for out of state people it's nice to be able to buy New Glarus. I wouldn't make a trip back, but if I was in the area I might give it another shot. read more
