Swedish meatballs, lingonberries and rye toast. Yum!
    Pvill W.

When I saw they had Swedish meatballs with lingonberries, it was a done deal that we'd be eating there! This is a lovely cafe, with a delectable array of desserts (that we didn't try) and a nice lunch menu. I had the pea soup, which came with a few tasty croutons on the side and the offspring and I both had the meatballs. The portion was generous and the meatballs were very tasty. If you're accustomed to those at IKEA, these are a bit softer and maybe a titch bigger. The rye bread was gorgeous - toasted perfectly and amazing with butter. The offspring approved of the meatballs and actually ate most of theirs. They also have a nice selection of chocolates and a few other candies, and I could not leave without a package of handmade hazelnut marshmallows. There's plenty of seating (lots of space in the back) and they had lovely art on the walls (I assume supporting local artists). We'll be back!

We found this great place while looking for some coffee in town and came back the next day with our kids. It has a full espresso bar but also pastries, quiche, and some salads and soups. Scandinavian foods are a speciality, including Finnish pies and Swedish meatballs, and tea cakes. I ate some of the best scones I have had in a long time: crisp on the outside and crumbly on the inside.

If you are looking for a Christmas gift for someone, this would be a great place! It is very quiet, and cozy inside. I came here and got the Swedish yellow pea soup, and for dessert, the German chocolate cake. The soup was good, and it came with crisp toast (almost like a crouton) to dip in it. The chocolate cake was delicious, and had this gooey coconut frosting on top. I also got a German hot chocolate with gingerbread spices in it. I will be ordering that again! This is a really nice place, and I recommend it.

During a break in the action from my daughter's soccer tournament, we ventured to Sjolinds Chocolate House in search of a home-style cooking. While the experience did not blow my hair back, the food was generally well prepared with fresh ingredients. Even factoring in the imperfections, I would return if travelling through Mount Horeb. On a brilliantly sunny day, the sunlight struggled to make it into the interior of the store. If you are looking to catch some rays while you eat, there is a nice elevated patio behind the restaurant. The cashier, the pastry display case and the tiny kitchen are located in the center of the restaurant. It gets a little cramped in the ordering area when more than a couple patrons queue up to order. The lunch menu is small (six sandwiches and three savory Finnish pies). In addition, several soup, salad and lunch specials change on a daily basis. The food is prepared by hand with fresh ingredients. Because the small kitchen size, our food came out two dishes at a time and it took a while for all five members of our group to receive our food. The food is generally worth the wait. When discussing the meal, everyone in our group liked their food, but there was always one thing that prevented them from loving the dish. The roasted tomato soup with bacon was brimming with tomato flavor, but the smokiness of the bacon seemed out of place. The borscht was chock full of vegetables, but the tomatoes seemed of place with the cabbage and the beets. While I enjoyed the soup, it lacked the deep earthy flavor that I associate with this dish. The sausage in my lunch special ($7.25) was superb. When I saw that it was sliced in half lengthwise, I was worried about it being too dry. However, that was not the case. It was moist, well seasoned and packed with flavor. My only misgiving - it was far too small in relation to the massive serving of potato salad and Limpa. Please sir, could I have some more... The red potato salad served with my lunch was lightly dressed and well seasoned with a generous dose of dill. I also enjoyed the hearty slices of Limpa (Swedish rye bread), peppered with caraway and anise was practically a meal by itself. Cut into triangular wedges, I imagine Frodo and Sam could sustain themselves on their journey to Mt. Doom with just a slice or two of this bread. My gooey mozzarella and cheddar in my daughter's grilled cheese sandwich would make the heart of a seasoned Cheesehead melt in delight. However, the English muffin bread was too dry and in need of a little more butter. The lefse wrap ordered by my wife and mother-in-law spawned a strong difference of opinion. My wife thought the lefse served as an effective wrap for the succulent turkey and crisp greens. My mother-in-law, who probably gone through a metric ton of potatoes making the holiday lefse for her family was less than impressed with the quality of the lefse and was not a fan of her sandwich. I have enjoyed the scone and cinnamon rolls and they are an excellent value at $2. I soooo wish I could give Sjolind's a 3.5. It's clearly better than A-OK, but the rough edges to the meal make me hesitate from entering "I'm a fan" territory. Since I have a soft spot for family-owned and operated businesses and for restaurants that apply some effort when preparing their dishes, I'll round up to four stars.

I watched the server pull them off of parchment paper and put them on the griddle to reheat. They were dried out around the edges and overall very tough. While we were eating I observed an employee mixing a fresh batch of pancake batter so they obviously make them on sight. This is a menu item that should be prepared fresh when ordered, not made ahead and reheated. I also ordered a hot chocolate expecting a rich, full bodied chocolate since they are a chocolate shop. Sadly I received a cup of warm water with a slight chocolate and spice flavor. I have had better hot chocolate from a packet.

I think they were good although I never tried one. This is a breakfast and lunch place and has various bakery items on display. The quiche looked wonderful. I must say the coffee cake was as good or better than my grandma used to make.

We had been looking for a local farm-to-table experience when we found Campo di Bella. Our first…read morevisit was a Saturday evening which consisted of a five course meal. Everything about the evening was exceptional. The first course was bruschetta, followed by a refreshing fresh salad with lemon dressing. The main course was flank steak, cooked perfectly. This was followed by a cheese board with delectable cheese samples from local dairies. For dessert, they had an absolutely amazing home made vanilla ice cream. It was rich, creamy, and very tasty. We enjoyed it so much, that we immediately reserved a second dinner which had cider braised pork shoulder as the entree. Again, the meal was exceptional. It started with prosciutto wrapped cantaloupe. I've never had prosciutto sliced so thinly, it was tender and flavorful. This was followed by a butternut squash soup that was thick and rich. I didn't know butternut squash could be so flavorful. I cleaned my bowl so thoroughly that the host jokingly asked if they forgot to serve me. The pork was next. Served with honey crisp apples. It was tender and perfectly juicy. Again, a cheese board was served before dessert. All very tasty local cheeses. For dessert, a French apple tart. I could have eaten a whole tray, it was so good. I've now been there over 20 times. Every time has been exceptional. They offer a variety of wines, ciders, and local beer to go with your meal. They also make their own vermouth which is sweet, with a hint of clove. It's so good, in fact, that we like it on the rocks. Not mixed. The host, Mary Ann, is wonderful. She takes time before each course to provide background on the home grown or locally sourced ingredients. She also gives a history of the farm and her family and, if the season permits, offers a tour of their farm. Marc (Mary Ann's Husband) is the chef. He is a culinary wizard. As I mentioned, I've been back over 20 times, which equates to almost 80 different dishes. All of them amazing! My only criticism (it's a minor one) is that the room is small and cozy and it can get a bit loud inside. It depends on the crowd, but it can be a bit hard to carry a conversation. In summary: exceptional food and exceptional people. I could not recommend it more. Update (12/13/24): We've been coming back to Campo di Bella for the last 5 years. At least 60 times or more and we've never been disappointed. Marc and Mary Ann are incredible hosts that continue to create amazing meals and experiences.
