I had different experiences every time I went to this store. Recently I joined a ballet class and decided to pick up my ballet shoes and other stuff from Movin' easy. Will say not super happy. My first ballet shoes and they don't fit well ! Not to say the staff is very helpful. But the fist time I went to the store I was definitely given a pair of ballet shoe, but since I was an absolute beginner, with no clue I just picked up my actual size shoe. After going to my first class I was informed by my instructor that the shoes were too big for me. Luckily I removed them immediately and called them ! But I went back to the store, they refused to exchange or store credit. Nightmare to just make this trip to exchange and then being refused after talking to them on phone ! I do not recommend this place ! read more

Is dance experiencing a boom in Austin? It must be, because suddenly the options are numerous and expanding. This is an enormous new dance clothing and shoes facility, right next to the Austin School of Classical Ballet and within a stone's throw of Walmart on Anderson. Size matters. It's not the coziest or even the most attractive place but they have serious room to grow. You could fit TEN of the old Movin' Easy store in this place. And there are several thoughtful and fun mini stages with mirrors for you to try out your clothing or shoes. Last time I visited Movin' Easy at its old location, service was excellent but there was only one person there. Today there were several service people and only one other customer. The clothing selection left me somewhat unimpressed. For example, one bubblegum pink girl's performance outfit was almost $200, and I know from experience that I can buy at least three fabulous tutus for that price on Etsy. Nevertheless, the opportunity to try things on before buying is beguiling and often more satisfying than opening a box. read more

Not just an option on a keypad, an actual person told me "tipping would be appreciated," and then stood there watching me awkwardly as I selected "none." Hello. We had a lovely time in the store today. The woman who helped us was very friendly, made shoe recommendations, no issues there. I also am happy to support local business. However, my issue is with the fact that a tip was solicited. To the owner - this is really bad form and I will not be coming back. It's unclear why a tip would be solicited in this type of business unless you aren't paying your employees enough. I worked in the service industry so understand where and when tips are appropriate. Great Dance wear store to purchased everything you need for dance! Great selection for toddlers as well but their sizes were limited. Lauren was excellent and very attentive to our needs. I really appreciated her patience and help. Being a first time dance mom is a little overwhelming but she was a huge help in finding everything I needed. I chose this dance store because their prices were slightly less than other competitors also they have a huge selection but I did have to drive half an hour away so that was the only downside. I've been shopping at Movin' Easy Dancewear for about a year as my daughters dance company's uniform requires us to buy from Movin' Easy. We went to buy her new uniform on July 15th. While we were trying on leotards, the two they gave us had notes for the employees. The notes were not meant for the customers to see. So I proceeded to look at the note that said something along the lines of: there is a defect with the leotard, if the customer asks about it, offer 10% off- if the customer doesn't ask, ignore the discount. So we proceed to check out, the sales lady takes the note off, reads it, and places it under the computer. She told me my price and I brought up the defect and said that I saw the note she had read. I suppose the manger was next to her and acted like they were innocent and had t realized that there was the note and then gave me 10% off. So, while they did offer me the discount after I brought it up, they were knowingly trying to sale me a defected leotard at full price. It just seems greedy and unethical. So I'll go out of my way, not to shop with them again. read more

My daughter needed her second pair of pointe shoes. Unfortunately, the first pair (not purchased here), were such an improper shoe for her, really harming her feet. Movin Easy was such a great experience! All the employees are extremely knowledgeable about everything dance, especially pointe shoes. They had her in her bare feet in every position possible, noting the shape, arch and details of her every move. Then, numerous pointe shoes were chosen for her to try on. Each time, the employee (embarrassed I forgot her name) would explain in great detail the difference of each box, shank, insoles and platforms. We learned so much! She also explained various pros of each. Other employees were even called over to look my daughter over and give their opinions on how they liked the look of various shoes! We were treated with dignity and feel 100% assured that we left with the perfect pair! Everyone was so sweet too! In addition, this store offers everything Dance related! From leotards to turn/balance boards, foot stretchers, dance apparel and of course... every type of dance shoe imaginable :) Can't wait to return! read more

I rarely get steaming mad. This place provoked me. Having salsa danced for quite a while in crappy ass shoes, I decided to make the investment and get some nice shoes to dance in. Saved up, and I mean SAVED up for the shoes. Went to movin easy. The woman helped me pick out some shoes. I was pretty hesitant to buy them because they were a bit uncomfortable, but she said that I would get used to it and they were the only way to go. I asked her about the return policy and she said I could return it if I didn't like it with a few days as long as I didn't wear them out dancing. I said could I wear them around the house and try em out, she said sure. Try them on at home, after a trip around my tiled living room, decide that the shoes are not for me. I pack em back up and bring them back the next day, figuring I can get money back or at the very least, exchange for something else. They take the shoes, look at them, declare them worn and refuse to do anything. We fought. I was mad. I spoke to managers, I argued, I explained the situation over and over and they refused to budge. I came here for the first time because my friend had asked me to take him to get ballet shoes for his dance class and honestly didn't even think my experience here would be enough to yelp, but lo' and behold, here we are: We walked in and sort of perused the place since we didn't know how we were supposed to find exactly what we were looking for. We were greeted by a young lady who told us she would be there to help us as soon as she finished with another customer. She hurried and completed that transaction and proceeded to help us. All we had to say was, "we need ballet shoes" and right away she was rushing to and from the back with different pairs of slippers. She would size and fit my friend and the whole time was extremely helpful and friendly. She was teaching my friend how to do certain balley positions and it was clear that she knew exactly what she was talking about. If i ever have a need for dancing shoes, this will be the place i come to. I wasn't thrilled about driving and parking through their lot thought, it's super rocky, and i got tricked! I thought i was pulling out to the street but really i had driven over a curb. It was covered by rocks so i couldn't tell...and totally messed up the belly of my car :( Neverthelss, Movin Easy, though small in size, is big in customer service. read more

Preface: I am not a dancer. I don't know much about dance. The only reason why I went here is because I wanted ballet slippers to wear around. I like the style and it's no longer in fashion to have ballet flats with the oh-so-important strap over the top of the foot that I resorted to buying from a dance shop. That being said... I was really happy with my experience at Movin' Easy. It was a hard place to find (get a better sign or something) but once I walked in, two girls jumped to help me. I explained that I wanted ballet slippers but had no idea how to fit myself for some, so I was invited to the shoe room. "Are you taking beginner's dance classes?" the salesgirl asked. I was embarrassed to admit that, no, I just wanted ballet slippers to wear around. No judgment at all! I didn't expect that. She was like, "Right on, okay." She showed me the different types of shoe (leather, canvas, split sole) and showed me how the shoe should fit, should I be dancing in them. "But if you're just going to walk around town in them, you can probably go bigger and it'll be more comfortable." So I went half a size bigger and they felt pleasantly snug but not restrictively so, and she didn't bother me to buy anything else, a pet peeve of mine. And then the two girls and I chatted about little things while I was getting rung up. They were so pleasant and so nice that I left feeling happy! Which is not how I expected to feel after leaving a specialty dance store. In all honesty, they were probably bored (there was no one else there) but whatever, they gave great service and were very sweet. If anyone with previous dance experience is interested in a job, there was a sign up that claimed they were hiring part-timers. A job is a job. read more

Incredibly helpful staff especially when it comes to pointe shoe fittings... my special order for pointe shoes has always been perfect, and the staff stays on top of orders to make sure they arrive correct and on time. They also have a loft upstairs that is laid out to be a small ballet studio with decent flooring and barres; I take floor barre class upstairs with Rachel Meador every month, and it's the perfect space for classes like this. read more

It was my first time at Movin' Easy for my daughter. She needed half soles to practice in and some nice leotards for conventions. They had great customer service and immediately helped her find the right shoes for her. Then we were told how to easily find her size in leos and where the kid section was. She wanted to buy at least five leotards but I made her narrow down to her favorite two. Signing up with them gave me a $5 discount. Highly recommend this store read more

I'm writing about the selection of ballet related merchandise, and the customer service. I went in to outfit my 5 year old daughter for her ballet class at Slavin Nadal, and was so happy to see that they knew exactly what we needed, even though I wasn't sure what that was! Everyone was really friendly, and they took all the time we needed to get everything on the list. They have a lot of adorable little skirts that one of the employees sews herself. My daughter wanted all of them! :) Especially when compared to my experience at Capezio, this store does a great job! The only reason I gave four stars instead of five is because the prices seemed a little bit high. But I think they have a 10% off coupon that I didn't have, so I'll know better next time. read more

I have bought 4 pairs of dance shoes from them in the past few years. I met the owner for the first time today and he was really impolite and unreasonable. He was trying to sell me a defective pair of dance shoes (the last pair they had of that size) and not give the discount that his sale associate had offered because of the defect. When I told him that I wasn't sure I wanted to get a defective pair of shoes anyway, he was very aggressive and inappropriate that made me want to leave the shop as soon as I could. Paula at Movin' Easy is by far the most competent pointe shoe fitter in Austin and beyond. In our family's experience, she will take a tremendous amount of time and effort to get it just right, and she is very respectful of our school's preferences. We had one flawed shoe that snapped after very little use, and Paula took the time to have it inspected by the manufacturer in order to get it replaced. I was a little nervous about buying dancewear; I recently signed up for an adult ballet class, having never taken ballet or really any other dance class before. I was worried I would feel silly walking in and buying a leotard, tights, and ballet shoes not really knowing what to look for. However, those worries were for naught. Kelsey helped me so much; she explained what the function of each piece was, helped me find what fit best, and even gave me tips that will help me feel more confident when I begin classes (if it weren't for her, I would have worn black tights in pink shoes! If dance shoes are totally comfortable when you buy them, then they are too loose. Every experienced dancer knows this. You don't want any slippage at all when you're dancing. The leather loosens up with use; eventually they get so loose you have to throw them away. My experience with Movin' Easy was good. They told me to get a size smaller than my measured size because the brand I wanted ran large. The shoes turned out to be just right. The shoes I ordered did take a long time to arrive, but they warned me about this. Lots of performers and dance teachers in Austin wear shoes from Movin' Easy, and they do a whole lot more dancing than your average club-goer. Ask for Barbara, she's a serious dancer herself and knows the different brands very well. read more

I walked into this place literally five minutes before they were about to close. I was going salsa dancing that night and refused to toture myself in the six inch heels that I normally strap on. I was surprise to find that the door was still open. Most business luck up 5 mintues prior to closing. I came in and explained my situation. The lady working that night was very courteous and reccomended a very comfortable shoe. There wasn't I wide selection of salsa shoes but I was on a time crunch and picked a basic comfortable shoe. I danced the night away happy and blister free. The store is really tiny but they do have some really nice dance outfits. I took my young daughters (3 and 5) to Movin' Easy to buy their first ballet and tap shoes. We were warmly greeted and escorted to the shoe area where both girls were fitted with great attention and given plenty of chances to try their shoes in front of the mirror. The owner came out to visit with us and thanked us for coming into the shop. My girls felt like serious prima ballerinas by the time we left the store. I was so impressed by how well we were cared for and thankful that my children have even more reason to take their new interest seriously.
