The Boy was in need of a haircut. He searched high and low and found a barber with perfect reviews - at a place where I used to get my eyelashes done!! Mr. Hobbs was open for business at 10am. We were at the shop at 10:10am and already there was a gentleman getting his hair cut by Mr. Hobbs. It's a first-come-first-serve basis and no appointments are taken which is very fair! The shop was decorated quite quaintly and very British. The barber chair was super cushiony, a football match was going on between Liverpool FC and some other team. I loved the view of the street while I was in the shop. We waited for about 10 minutes before Mr. Hobbs was available. The Boy wanted a totally different haircut. Mr. Hobbs gave suggestions and after some quiet discussion, Mr. Hobbs diligently and precisely went to work. Watching Mr. Hobbs give a haircut is like watching an artist paint a blank canvas. I urge you to notice how he holds his scisscors and buzzer - very unique. The Boy was 100% satisfied after the cut was complete and was smiling from face to face the whole day. We went for lunch and walked around Granville and by the time we passed by Mr. Hobbs' shop again, all the waiting chairs were full of gentleman waiting for their haircuts. The Boy has already penciled in when his next visit to Mr. Hobbs will be. He was beyond impressed! read more

Idk how this place only got 13 reviews not including mines. I referred to yelp to look do for a good barbershop and it led me to this place and you know what this place is gold. What caught my eye is when I read Michael (the barber) was from London and right away this guy will know his stuff and will fit my taste of style. I really like how he takes his time and meticulously cut my hair and used a blade to do my edgings to clean me up. Not only that it ended with a hot towel around my face. He's old school too. No appointments needed. The experience was great and he mos def knows what he wants best for your hair. And the accent just made it that more legit. Found this place through yelp. Didn't have a lot of reviews though, but the reviews were very good. Went in with a friend for his haircut and beard trimming. HE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! The cut was amazing and precise while the trim was clean. NO RESERVATION NEEDED. You can just walk-in, and depending on how busy it is, you will be accommodated right away. I just happened to walk past this new barber shop on a walk down South Granville, in early June, and noticed a familiar face from Frank's Barber Shop (on 11th and Granville). Michael had opened his own business on Granville & 15th; it's larger than the previous shop, more contemporary, and there's a warmer atmosphere here (IMO). Caught him on a bad day I think. Maybe he had to go to the washroom. Maybe he forgot his glasses. Maybe the type of haircut I demanded was an insult to his craft. Either way he moved through my hair with speed and efficiency that seemed promising. However once at home and closer to a functional mirror there were some inconsistencies and loose ends. Just went to get my hair cut today after reading the good reviews on Yelp. It was a really good experience with great service. The shop has a nice modern feel to it and huge mirrors. I loved the barber chairs they were super comfortable. My cut turned out great. We talked through what I wanted and he checked throughout to make sure it was the way I wanted. The hot towel at the end was a really nice touch. They take debit and cash. Also the owner has a super cool model ship that he built himself. read more

First off, the price is great, not too cheap and a good value for the service, which is excellent. Mike's been my barber for about a year now. He does an awesome job and I'm always happy with my hair cut. Love the new space on Granville. Used Michael for a number of years. Went for a cut today expecting Michael and was told that he was off. Had a cut by a friendly enough girl but should have left when I asked her if she could do a point cut. Michael's son had to explain what it was to her. Left with a pretty crappy haircut ( not a point cut, too short on the back and sides and uneven length). Sorry Michael but quality has dropped without your hand on the tiller. After seeing such great reviews on yelp I thought id give this barber a try. I have to say I was disappointed. I found that he was to quick and lacked attention to detail. Considering it wasn't busy I was surprised I was finished so quick. I wish he would of spent more time and used a blade to tidy up my edges. If you're going to charge for a beard trim I expect my neck line and jaw line to be neatly close shaven. Had to spend the time myself afterwards to remove the stubble he left by trimming with a shaver. read more

From out of town wasn't sure where to go decided on this place based exclusively on Yelp reviews. I was thrilled that no appointment was needed. the gentleman who cut my hair was friendly and very professional and recommended I try a little different style and wear it longer than I usually do. The cut was well done I'm unsure of the style but I will give it a try. He went as far as to tell me if I don't love it I can come back and he will fix it. Overall a very positive experience. I don't know if it was perhaps an off day, but I wasn't overly impressed with either the haircut or the service. The haircut seemed kind of rushed and they really didn't give me what I wanted despite asking several times for a change. I ended up leaving because it was "close enough." It was $27 which was way too high in my opinion. I've since found a barber for under $20 who does just as good of a job. read more
