Good honest dentistry. Not a flashy surgery, but took his time explaining what he was doing, and fixing the problems other dentists caused me. I wish I had gone to him from the start. read more

I signed up with this dental surgery about a year ago after (shamefully) not visiting a dentist for…read moreabout three years. I have never been afraid of the dentist from a pain point of view - but I was scared what it might do to my wallet. Cost-wise, though, this place is pretty good. They didn't have any NHS places left, but they explained to me that the difference in cost was negligible (£20 for a check-up as opposed to £15 on the NHS) I wasn't kept waiting long, the receptionist was very friendly and they had a water cooler in the waiting room. My dentist was efficient and explained all my options to me clearly and, most importantly, in a non-pushy way. I wasn't made to feel like I had no choice but to part with all my cash, but rather that I had a choice in the matter and I could do as I pleased. She played the role of a wise adviser which I appreciated. My hygienist was lovely too - again, not too badly-priced and very talkative and amicable. Naturally, going to the hygienist is quite painful, but she explained everything she was doing and how I could avoid the pain in the future. She did make me feel guilty for not flossing often enough, but she sounded so genuinely concerned about the well-being of my gums I have flossed religiously ever since.
You must avoid this dentist. On my first visit I was told I needed a filling - fair enough. But the…read morefilling was incredibly deep and large, and the tooth was still sore for a week, and my bite had changed radically. A week after that I was in real pain I had to have root canal surgery whilst abroad in Australia. That dentist suggested the initial filling had been unnecessarily deep and badly done. The implication being that the initial filling/dentistry is what killed the tooth. Subsequent to this I have found two other locals in Tufnell Park who have needed root canal surgery within two weeks of being given deep filings at this dentist. All three of us have decided to complain to the ombudsman. Avoid.

I have never got why people get scared about going to the dentist…read more From the age of three I used to go to Kings College Dental Hospital. Initially, slightly shy about letting a stranger look into my mouth (I am told) my parents would bring me here while Dr Smith a very amiable and calm dentist would count my teeth, give me a sticker and off I went home. I doubt this is common practice but it worked for me and since I have never had a problem with going to the dentist. The hospital deals in paediatric, orthodontic and specialist dentistry. It is run by the NHS so advanced booking is necessary and the time in the waiting room is by no standards brief, but the dentists here were always fantastic throughout the many years I was a patient here for. Excellent with children, excellent in what they do and thankfully I have not had a single problem with my teeth since.
I was referred here by my dentist for wisdom tooth extraction. It was a long time before I received…read morea letter with an appointment date and time (which could be changed on calling them, but I didn't need to), but apparently it takes up to 6 weeks for them to contact you after a dentist referral. My letter was followed by an automated voice message to my phone a few days before - reminding me of my appointment and asking me to confirm that I would be there. On the day the waiting time was minimal, the staff friendly and really put me at ease. I had an Xray (you have to remove all jewellery around the area - earrings, necklace etc, however I have a lip ring that I have never removed and they just worked around it). They provided an easy to understand analysis of my wisdom tooth situation, and the procedure I would need to go through, and said I would probably need another, 3d, xray scan to know how the tooth sits, before the surgery. A few days later I received my letter asking me to book my 3d scan appointment, which I did, and I arrived on the day and went straight in for the scan. Again, I could not remove my lip ring, and neither could the scanning staff, so they worked around it and it was fine. I am currently waiting for my letter to book the surgery itself. My rating will perhaps change after that! Pros: Friendly, helpful staff, efficient appointments (minimal wait!) Cons: Having to wait for letters to be able to schedule appointments - it creates a delay and a phone or an online system would be much easier! Scanning staff not being able to help me remove my lip ring haha.
Good, professional, and friendly service…read more Chipped a tooth for the first time in my life last night. After a few minutes of panic, and convincing myself I was not in a crumbling tooth dream, I started doing Google searches to figure out what to do. In the midst of this I ended up clicking on a Google Ad and being directed to a "24 hour" dental place. Turns office in my area is not 24 hours, so made an appointment for the morning. After I finally found the hidden location, I walked into the dingy office and the receptionist curtly told me they did not show customers the price list, and would charge £25 just to tell me how much they would charge. Luckily I happened to pass by Malmin on the way. The office itself was clean and professionally maintained. I popped in and the friendly receptionist patiently answered my many questions, let me take the price list, and could quote me a price, and agreed to waive the new patient fee since I this was going to be a one off procedure. The prices were better than the dingy hole-in-the-wall, and she could offer me an appointment the same day! The dentist and his assistant were equality friendly, and showed concern for my comfort throughout the procedure. Dentist seemed quite skilled. He explained that he intentionally under-filled the chip since it was was in the front that that would protect it a bit. Also said that if came out he would replace it (once) free of charge. At the end of the procedure he showed care filling down the filling and making sure it felt good to my tongue. I was in and out in 30 minutes, with my tooth restored. Although I will miss that little chip. RIP little tooth piece.

They have a good range of dental treatments (including cosmetic treatments), and a wide range of dental products for sale. I always see Mrs R Robbins for dental checkups. She is AMAZING! A routine checkup with her is extremely thorough, and leaves my teeth sparkling. She is very knowledgable about treatments that may be of interest to me, but never tries to pressure me into signing up for these. A couple of years ago, I decided to try out a different (cheaper) NHS dentist NEVER AGAIN! The treatment may not be cheap, but there is no comparison to the level of service I receive at Central Dental Care to that received at other surgeries.
