Run away from this place as fast as possible. Absolutely shady swindlers. I have reported this place to the Better Business Bureau as this is now the 2nd time he has conned me. Shame on me for giving this place a second chance. Had them install a rooftop tent on my jeep. Rich refused to give me an estimated price beforehand. Ok maybe he hasn't done one before. I didn't realize the tent came with optional lighting inside. They never called me to ask if I wanted the electric work done. Instead they just added $375 for labor and $78 for wiring to my work order without my express approval. Impressive work! I had Mr Kustom install the Morimoto 4banger "ditch" lights in my truck and they did a fabulous job. They estimated the time to be 2.5 hours but got everything done in an hour. The toggle switch was installed neatly in the cabin. You can research and buy your own lighting kit and Mr Kustom will professionally install them for you. read more

Called the company on the 6th day of the return window and was told I needed a return label and that internet sales were not working today. Called back and was told the same thing.Finally got to talk to internet sales and was told to send pictures of the lights at night . These are the images and MrKustom said use in a dark area. I will never use this company again. Terrible customer service and company. The puddle lights can only be seen when I covered up and blocked some of the factory lights. read more

Awesome experience. Had a racing stripe recently put on my black Dodge Challenger and the final result was way above my expectations (which was high). The craftsmanship and attention to detail made my install look better than anything that could've come from the factory. Steve is a crook! He is selling inferior car accessories at a premium price, does not stand behind his products, his warranty is worthless. Purchased a set of "plug n play" puddle lights for my Cadillac CTS. Once I received the product I had to modify my door panels to get them to fit (discussed issue with Steve, said he didn't know the CTS was a different puddle light but yet sold them as a direct fit for 3x what I could get them for on eBay) Lights melted the projector lens in a matter of months. Again contacted Steve and was told it was my cars fault for leaving the light on too long! Haha this guy and company is a joke! FYI- ordered the cheap oversees puddle lights off eBay. Not only are they a 3rd of the price, they look wayyy better, and actually last! read more

I sent my Mustang headrests in to have Wiley Coyote head embroidered on them which they show a actual picture of on their site. $625 later, yes the cost is ridiculous, I get the headrests back and they look like a deflated soccer ball. After emailing Mr. Kustom they tell me to find a local upholstery shop and have them apply xteam to the foam. Well I did and didn't do squat. I contacted Mr. Kustom again and basically was told the problem was that the material was vinyl and not leather. That's a lie because the other Wiley headrests they and that are displayed on their website are exactly like mine. Mr. Kustom offered me nothing. No partial refund or an offer to send them back and they'd fix them. These people are not to be trusted because they don't stand behind their work. read more

I really only found them because they were following me on twitter. I recently got a new car but with the black leather seats and no tint on the windows I was baking in the sun. I spoke to Joe on the phone who gave me a price and set me up with a time to bring my car in. Worst customer service, requested the lightest tint possible on my windshield and they put 35% When I complained they said they did not carry 50% and needed to be special ordered. I would have appreciated if I was told that up front. I could have waited for the special order. Do not push your in stock merchandise onto customers. read more

I've done research on tints for about two months and decided that 3M window tint would be the best tint for my car, so I started calling around. Not many places in my area use 3M due to the price.( I'm guessing) So I call Mr. KUSTOM twice and ask if they offer 3M tinting and on both occasions they said yes. So I was quoted $220 keep in mind all other shops located on the north side quoted $150 for tints all around. I figured the price jump was because of the 3M and that's fine. So I arrive ask appreciate third time, choose my percentage and the start working. I then notice on the far side wall a poster stating that they use Sun-Tek brand. When I confront Mike( One of the Managers) about it he says it's the same company. 3M is just the parent company. Keep in mind they are two very different companies. I was more upset about they fact that he tried to convince me that they were the same. So I asked for a price drop to $200(still $50 over priced for a common brand you can get anywhere. Would not recommend you go there. If he can lie about that, he is not an honest person. read more

This place will trick you they are way too smart I purchased a radio and then all the sudden my speakers are no good (that's what they said) so they sold me 4 speakers then after installation they said my amp is no good at this point I was fed up they had installed everything and they slowly make you buy by the time you realize what happen your in it deep then I go to another shop and they told me he turned the amp off they charged me $10 to reconnect it and keep mind I have told them it was working fine and they said it was burned please be careful and this comment is my only thing close to a refund GOOD LUCK! read more

In my experience, we were under quoted and over priced, my recommendation would be to AVOID at all costs. We were quoted $300 ended up being g charged $600 and then had to go back and were charged another $100 so total was $700. This was to replace back lights. read more

I went back to have Mr. Kustom repair their shoddy work & products & they asked for a receipt. I showed them my credit card statement & they said 'sorry, can't help you without a receipt'. Mind you it was the same guy who had to have recognized me! I have been so pissed off about this for 5 years (since it happened). ~$400 just pissed away! Horrible!!! BEWARE!!! I called the shop early Saturday morning looking for a quote for an alarm and door locks. The man that answered gave me a quote of $130 for both, installed. Great price! So I drove over there to get everything installed and verified the price before they started work. He said it would be $300 for the job. I informed him that I called this morning for a quote and was quoted $130 installed. He had the nerve to tell me "Well I wasn't the person who answered the phone and it's going to be $300 for the job. He further had the nerve to tell me that I must have called somewhere else because they don't charge $130!" I told him, NO, I called you. I even showed him his phone number on my cell phone where I called from. He's like, well, the job is $300 and it's a 2 hour wait! I said sorry, you're not getting my business! So I went to Mobile Audio on Milwaukee instead and got the exact same job done for $128! They took me in right away and was out the door in about an hour! Beware of their shady business! Okay, I haven't had my '93 Oldsmobile Cutlass Cierra overhauled here but I was driving down Irving when it started raining. I flipped on my wipers and realized they weren't working. I checked the fuse box and saw the WW fuse was busted, so I pulled off the road and stepped into Mr. Kustom. Came in to have the light kit replaced in my car. Paid the $250. A week later my headlight went out. Came back adn they did some mumbo jumbo and it seemed fixed...for a month. Light went out again, so I went back AGAIN. Not sure what they did, but after a few weeks the light went out AGAIN. I just got pulled over for the second time for a missing headlight and unfortunately I cannot just replace the bulbs myself, but what the hell did I pay Mr. Kustom for? Super disappointed. read more

Then when I asked him to wait so that I could finish my statement, he again was rude. I am not at all surprised that they have such poor reviews here on yelp. For all the haters, they actually do lots of work on "work trucks/vans" and I have seen the "Benny the Bull" Chicago Bulls van there on several occasions. Walk in the store and it looks rinky dink and a bit outdated, but I have always had a good experience. I have had 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 tint jobs done by them, and always a good job. They also do ONE piece back windows, which if you are new to tinting, that's the way to go. Other places might split into two tints and place them close together, but you won't know until you ask the shop. Lifetime warranty on the tint and labor. I don't recall ever having to bring my car(s) back for tint redos. I can't vouch for other services or hardware sold. UPDATE 5/12/12 Upping my rating from 4 to 5 stars. Remodeled inside. Bright, clean, products layed out and well placed. Nice little waiting area with wood flooring and leather chairs. Got my 8th? tint done there this weekend. Beautiful job as always. I got a pair of "Spark" headlights and they are gorgeous. Fast install, and very clean looking. Thanks for the recommendation Mike! Found out a little inside info as well. They bought the building next door and they are going to be working on Choppers and Hot Rods! I love driving by their place on Irving and seeing nice cars outside in the summer, the new place will be a real treat to see. They also hired someone VERY famous to work on the Choppers... I called the shop to schedule an appointment, but they had time and offered to do the install right away... You see I had ordered some wicked cool step rails for my Jeep Wrangler, but my wife was going to put up with 2 honkin' boxes of truck parts cluttering up our hallway for only so long. These guys do electric step installs in SUVs all the time, but had never see this particular bold on kit before. So they went to work, charging a straight up shop rate for the installation. This was not a simple installation, the steps articulate to act as nerf bars if you swing them up... cool, but complicated enough for me not to want to try and blow a Saturday on trying to do it it myself. 2 hours later, the job was done. It and it looked great. No complaints, I'll be back. read more

Inept service techs. Waste of time. I had a Remote Starter, New door speakers and horn upgrade. The remote starter was 300$ and only came with one key fob. I was told that it was a viper, turns out it was an off brand knock off they "installed". Dropped car off over night for work to be done. I received a call the next day saying it was complete. Arrived to find my car was parked down the road on a residential street (IN CHICAGO). The guy at the counter gave me my keys, checked to make sure I paid and said have a nice day. The remote starter when initiated caused the actual vehicle starter to "click" three times (not good). A couple weeks go by and realize that only sometimes will my factory key fob unlock the doors after it starts, and the red alarm light on my dash would continue to blink on as a drove. Also, my new horn upgrade sounds like a loud clown horn (embarrassed to blow it) and randomly when I use the remote start, it would trigger the alarm and my new clown horn could be heard for blocks. Also, I brought in some component speakers from amazon and was told I could not install them, as I had only a factory amp. I was sold some cheap coaxial speakers that now distort on any midrange bass. Long story short, I went to a place a couple miles up the road and got extremely knowledgeable guys that walked me through the basics of the remote starter and my audio situation. The only reason I cant give this place 1 star is because the main guy was willing to work with me and seems to actually care that I was not happy. I returned the old starter to the shop and was given an immediate refund. Nice guys, just need to up their game on quality, like a lot. read more

I really don't understand all the negative reviews for this place other than the fact that these guys may seem to have a bit of tough guy appearances. To me they appeared to be no nonsense businessmen, and that's a quality I appreciate in any business. There's a reason that I had to wait over a week to get an appointment to install my new running boards. Hmm, might that reason be that they are so good at what they do that they are booked in advance? Probably! I have had nothing other than a top notch positive experience with Mr. Kustom. I got exactly what I wanted when they said I would have it, and for the original price quoted, which, by the way, was $250 less than anything else even close to the quality they delivered. If you own a Navigator you're probably aware of the poor quality of the original retractable running boards that Lincoln uses for this vehicle. I've had two Navigators, and you can't really expect to get more than four years of useful life before the running boards require replacement, which runs around $4K per side including the cheap motors they use. They continue to function as basic running boards after the motors burn out, but they really cheapen the look of an otherwise beautiful vehicle, and then, as did mine, they simply break and need total replacement anyway. The boards I got from Mr. Kustom are way cooler than the originals even though they do not retract. But they are much more aesthetically pleasing to look at. They are wider and more functional than the originals, and they have lights built into both ends which makes them much safer in the dark. They look and work much better than the originals ever did! I would not hesitate to do business with these guys again. With Mr. Kustom I have personally experienced nothing less than top quality workmanship with professional installation, all at a price that's hard to beat read more
