On Oct 29, 2025 I requested a quote from Mr. Mike's Plumbing to cap off a gas line to a fireplace that I was removing. The representative arrived and advised he had to do an inspection of the gas line to determine what needed to be done and ensure that it was in good condition and that there would be a charge for the inspection. He spent about 15 minutes inspecting and advised that he would have to make a number of holes in the dry wall ceiling below the fireplace to find where the gas line could be capped off. I advised him and showed him a hole that I had cut in the floor as I was replacing the floor and that the gas line could be capped off within a few feet of the fireplace. You could see the direction that the gas line was running through the hole. He also advised that their service trucks were well stocked with all the materials that would be required to cap off the gas line. He then called the technician who was to do the work and advised him of what had to be done. In addition he made a number of calls to his other customers and spent approximately 1 hour at my place mostly spent on making calls to other customers. The technician arrived to start doing the work around 8:00 PM. I had already cut the hole in the floor to fully expose the connection that had to be capped and it would only require the disconnection of the gas line to the fireplace and put a simple cap on it. He shut off the gas line and went to his truck to get the cap. He was there for almost half an hour searching for the cap but didn't have one so he fashioned something together using about 4 fittings to cap off the line. I went down stairs while he started on the work of disconnect the gas line from the main line. I heard him struggling for about 15 minutes to try to disconnect the gas line from the main line so I went upstairs to see what the problem was. I observed that he was tightening the fitting instead of turning it the right way to loosen it. I explained to him that he had to turn it the opposite way to loosen it which he did successfully. I would think that disconnecting the small gas line and capping it could easily have been done within about half an hour at the most by a competent gas fitter. He finally finished capping the line off and advised that it was company policy that he now had to re-inspect the work which would be an additional charge for his inspection. I asked him what he was going to inspect and he couldn't explain what he was inspecting for. He then went to his truck and phoned his office I presume to get direction on how to handle this inspection. He came back and advised me that I did not have to pay for an additional inspection. The total charge for this fiasco was $488.23 which would have been over $100.00 more if they had not cancelled the charge for the second inspection. It is my opinion that the incompetence of the company and the cost of disconnecting a fully exposed gas line and capping it off which could have been done with 1 cap with easy access is excessive. This is taking advantage of senior citizens. The owner of the company did not return my call although they did offer to give me $50 back which I refused. If there was a rating of less than 1 I would have certainly given it to this company. read more

I had a very disappointing experience with Mr. Mike's Plumbing. I was explicitly told ahead of time that the furnace diagnostic would cost $69. The technician came, took photos, placed advertising magnets on my equipment, and did some very light cleaning around the furnace area. No repair was completed and my issue was not resolved. I was then charged close to $500, which was a huge surprise. I was told the visit would be about two hours, but the time was extended to around 2.5 hours due to the technician saying he was waiting on pricing - something I had no control over. In my opinion, the work performed did not match the price charged, especially since the original diagnostic fee was clearly communicated as $69 and no fix was provided. Based on my experience, I would strongly recommend getting all pricing clearly confirmed in writing before booking. read more

Hired Mr.Mikes from Calgary for a shower drain leak. They fixed the leak, but my tenant texted me pictures that the plumber broke the curtain rod off the wall. The plumber blamed it on not being secured to the wall properly. The same curtain rod has been used for year with no issue. Plumber has poor attitude. Recommend not using Mr.Mikes. read more

I find Yelp is the go to for good information. Value is important to me. I migrated away from Pete the Plumber after paying for new filters for their reverse osmosis filter and then told they no longer stock parts and could not make any repairs. Left in un-working. !!!Avoid this company!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is a property I manage. I called Mr. Mike's to diagnose leaking problem and was told the fee would be $69.99 for the trip. After one hour checking by plumber Brad (he stayed in car about 20 mins, I was the one running up and down to shut off and turn on the water), he issued $200+ invoice. There was $69.99 dispatch fee, $29.99 shoe cover fee which he used and took off at the entrance, $200+ over time diagnostic fee. I refused to pay the other two fees, he agreed and said it was company's policy to add on. Estimate repair price: He found the toilet valve was broken, replacement fee was $400+, under sink pipe was leaking, replacement was $200+, total was over $700. I refused to use their service, he said he could give discount, I didn't go with him. * The sink pipe is a newer one, I just checked days ago, it was in good condition. With the suspicious thought, I double checked the pipe, it was loose and the floor was dry. It is all good after I tighten it. I wonder what Brad did there! I called another plumber immediately and replaced the toilet valve, done within 15mins, bill was $145. End of the day I received a long email from Mr. Mike's plumbing with a bunch of estimates to replace the kitchen parts and washroom parts for Thousands dollars cost. I had them out twice, once for a clogged drain - which took 3 hours to clean - price was a little high but it needed to be done. over all that original service was 8/10 However i called them back 3 weeks later and it was a joke I asked for the same guy, they booked the date so he would come, then i get a different guy. Then 2 guys arrive, park 100ft away and chat for about 15 min before coming to the door. Then they go back to the van to "create the quote" and they chat by the van for another 20 min, before coming back in to tell me they wanted $400+ dollars to change my kitchen faucet (which i had the new one on the counter) and $700 to change the outdoor faucet. I told them not gonna happen, and they are still outside my house talking (20 min) as i write this review. You are a fool to use this company. read more

Technician was here two days ago and the problem is now worse. They chose my calling to report the issue they caused as the time to tell me warranty coverage only applies between 9-5, and that I'd have to pay a dispatch fee to have them look at their faulty work. Fired immediately, and a new plumber is coming urgently for half the dispatch fee I was quoted. Save your money. Caused more problems than they solved. Mr. Mike's plumbing does not have honest pricing. They charge a $70 dispatch fee, then when they get to the door hit you with a $313 "diagnostic fee", and if you refuse service for their ridiculous pricing, you're out $70. THEY ALSO CHARGE A $30 FEE FOR THE TECHNICIAN TO USE HIS TOOLS. ??? Altogether, I was charged $434.14 for 30 minutes of work and for the technician to tell me that the AC was too old to be fixed... The technician was scheduled to come between 10:00am and 1:00pm on Tuesday, but didn't even show up until Wednesday. He also left the circuit board cover open to be rained on after he left. Unacceptable. Reliance, Knight plumbing, and JPS provided quotes of $100, and $140 for equivalent or better levels of service. I called in to seek a price reduction based on their poor, day-late service and ridiculous pricing, and had two customer service reps tell me that they're unable to provide a full quote up front because "the tech doesn't know what they have to diagnose until they see it". This is absolutely nonsense as the technician quoted $434.14 before stepping foot in the house. If the tech can provide it at the door (before seeing anything), they can provide it on the phone. I have called multiple times over the past few weeks seeking to resolve this, however each time I'm met with a customer service rep who says they'll "create a task for a manager to follow up". It has been weeks and I haven't received a single call back from them. There are many past reviews that mention their disingenuous pricing. You don't have to look very hard. Stay away. Garbage service, extortionate pricing, terrible customer service. Do not use Mr Mike's for anything, there are plenty of honest plumbing/HVAC companies in Calgary that will give you a fair and up-front quote (Reliance, Knight plumbing, JPS, etc.) They state that "We will beat any insured competitor's rate by 10%." however have made no effort at all to honour this promotion. I understand the technician spent his time, labour, and gas to do some amount of work, and I have tried to get in touch with them multiple times over the past weeks to provide a fair level of compensation, however their unwillingness to even contact me unfortunately means a chargeback is my only recourse. Do not spend you money here. We are so frustrated and disappointed. Mr. Mike had to go to our property 4 times to fix an issue with the hot water tank. Made the wrong diagnosis, we had to pay for that service, plus the 'right' second diagnosis service which was way higher than other companies and according to our manufacturer they did the wrong service (which means we get no warranty on the part) Besides that, they are not responsive. I have been waiting for documentation for over a week. Do you yourself favor, find someone else and save yourself money and stress. read more

Absolutely outrageous fees .. this company is a joke. They lie on the phone about what their fees are and there is NO transparency about their fee structure until the dispatch is sent to your house to diagnose the problem. DO NOT use this company ... they prey on ignorant people to pay high rates. They wanted 800 to punch a hole in my drywall to find the problem and then do a PVC repair to crimp a plastic line - are you KIDDING ME?!? I found another company to do everything for 150. read more

My sump pump was making loud banging noises, so I called Mr. Mike's to replace the check valve with a quiet check valve. They sent two friendly plumbers who got the job done pretty quickly, but after they left I was surprised and shocked to discover two things: 1. They'd replaced my check valve with another regular check valve, not a silent one. 2. Their charge was amazingly high -- $515. I did some research online and discovered that the check valve they installed comes in two versions, regular and silent. I went to a plumbing supply store, bought the silent version, and installed it myself in fifteen minutes. Two months later I had an unrelated plumbing issue. Still unhappy about being ripped off by Mr. Mike's, I called a different plumbing company. While their plumber was here, I asked him how much he'd charge to replace a sump pump check valve, and his answer was about $185 for labour and materials -- maybe twice that in an absolute worst-case scenario, which would still have been $145 less than what Mr. Mike's charged. If you look up Mr. Mike's on Google, you'll see several reviews from other customers who also feel that they've been ripped off. I'm unimpressed, and won't be using Mr. Mike's again. read more

They are, in fact, too good to be true. Our water heater stopped working on a Saturday, so we looked up Calgary plumbers that came out on the weekend. We saw that Mr. Mike's did, and charged only (according to their website) $49.99 to come out + an hourly rate. A Mr. Mike's guy came out, spent a while in our basement (though not apparently unscrewing anything), and informed us we'd need a new water heater. He then gave us (an extremely high) estimate for one. And then we got the bill: a little over $400 (for telling us it was broken, which we'd already surmised since we had no hot water). The guy did not, as the invoice itself said, actually do anything except take out a flashlight and visually look over our broken water heater. The invoice also included an environmental fee for $30, although it's unclear what kind of disposal ops are required for clicking on a flashlight. But here's the kicker: they offered to lower the bill when I called to complain. . . if I agreed to sign a waiver "not to leave any negative reviews about Mr. Mike's Plumbing on any social media platforms." So apparently you can get a discount on the ruinously high fees for their services but only if you sign an NDA. I suspect this might be one reason there are so few negative reviews about this company.   Our view of the company is that they lure you in with the promise of cheap rates, charge a mint, and then prevent anyone from posting negative reviews. For all I know, their work might be decent (we didn't go with them for the water heater replacement since we found another plumber who charged about half what they did), but they seem excessively pricey and engage in what I find to be sleazy business practices. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. I used them April 9, 2022 for a furnace that was not blowing hot air. It was 7:30 pm they charge a $200 after hour fee. Then charged me $267 for a diagnosis fee whuch they tell me is for finding the problem then you just have to buy the part. It was the main board and they did not have it. Don the technician told me he would get back to me first thing in the morning as my tennant did not have any heat. Next morning nothing I called 3 times and they kept telling me they would get me a price. Fianlly on my 4th call they send me $1037.53 for installation and part but not for another day. They will not tell me the breakdown for the part and the instillation cost. I was told that the diagnosis fee I paid the night before $267.00 covered everything but the part. We had a clogged sink that was too much for us fix ourselves. We have used Mr. Mike's before for a water heater issue and so we called on them again. The plumber arrived promptly even though it was not an emergency which was appreciated. The plumber was clean, professional and very knowledgeable and did the job well. This would be a five-star review if it were not for the price. In our opinion, the cost that was charged for a relatively simple task was too high. No parts were replaced, it was just labour. Overall, they did good and we would recommend them again. read more

I had what I thought was an urgent situation on a Friday morning when the main drain in the house backed up. I called Mike's Plumbing and Mike actually answered at 6 am. He sent Tanner to my house by 9:00! The situation for me was pretty stressful but Tanner answered all my questions and was super patient and got the flow of the drain going again. Wonderful service! They are on-time, very friendly, knowledgeable and do a great job of cleaning up after themselves. No pressure to do anything other than what is needed while pointing out everything they can do for you. Each service person who has come to my house has been great! In a previous review, I detailed misleading business practices, false choices, overcharging, and general questionable competence of this company. After a polite conversation with the service manager, we agreed that my experience did, in fact, result from problems in the way Mike's goes about business IN GENERAL. We agreed to disagree by identifying an obvious double-charge and "splitting the difference". They came back to me with a REDUCTION of the already minimal amount. It turns out that, to accept a refund on a double charge from them, I need to sign this: ---------------------- This letter is stating that Mr. Mike's Plumbing is authorizing the refund amount for $300.00 for the inconveniences and mishaps that happened with 15365799. As a condition of the refund you, the client, agree to not leave any negative reviews about Mr. Mike's Plumbing left on any social media platforms. If there are any negative reviews left from this client, we have the authorization to charge the client for the refunded amount. If that amount must be billed, and the amount is not paid within 30 days, the invoice will be sent to our credit department and it could affect the client's credit. -------------------------------- So, as part of accepting $300 out of $2,300 worth of "inconveniences and mishaps" I need to promise not to tell anybody about them. Actually, part of this "inconvenience" has been an attempt to get this company to do anything more than blaming the customer. Evidently, Mike's policy is to buy off anyone making a negative review. We have an older house, and have been updating bits and pieces as time allows. The other day, our bath tub faucet developed a small drip. Rather than messing around with it, we decided to update the whole assembly. I called Mike on Saturday, and arranged service on Monday morning. He was cheerful and professional, and even though the job took longer than anticipated, he stuck with his original quote. Overall, a great experience. Unlike some of the other plumbers we hired over the years, Mike was on time, on budget, friendly, and courteous. I will definitely give him a call again. read more

Very disappointed in the service. Not even sure "the technician" was a certified plumber. He had to leave the premises to consult with someone by phone in order to prepare a multi option estimate of which $289.99 was the least costly option. Asked me to provide paper towel because he forgot his supply in the truck. Did not bring a pail to drain P trap. I suggest he was both lazy and inexperienced. Nevertheless, we were charged $289.99 to snake a bathroom sink drain. Another plumber we recently used inspected all the household plumbing fixtures as a value add and found other minor plumbing issues, that required repair. read more

My 90 year old mother had a flood in her basement so I headed over there right away and once I arrived I called a few plumbers and being the weekend, I had to leave messages and Mike was the first one to call me back. He then told me what I could do to help the situation and that he would call me back in 10 minutes to let me know what time the plumber could come by that day because he had so many calls and within 10 minutes he did call back to let me know the plumber would be there in a couple of hours. The plumber came on time and did an amazing job. Mike called back to check on things because he was at another location. Hired because of good reviews, seriously regret it. We had them come out for a quote, they quoted me $860 to replace a bathroom sink as they said I needed to redo the plumbing. I had them move forward with another job, the kitchen sink which was a similar quote as we could not afford both. I called another company out, and they literally laughed at the original quote and charged me $50! So disappointed I used them for my kitchen as I feel like I wasted money there, the plumber was out in about 2 hours and didn't reattach our dishwasher which is now loose. I gave 2 stars because they were quick and on time, and the plumber cleaned up after himself. read more

Guy was nice enough but didn't have the tools needed first time he come to the house, said he would come back end of the week, went home to "research" my shower unit. Didn't come back until I called back the following week. Charged me a way too much money to take off a shower handle. Talked abut how their company has 5 star rating and how amazing they are. Finally found the problem and quoted me $1600 for a new water heater. Went somewhere else and saved myself $700. Feel like my time was wasted and my concerns were ignored. read more

Unfortunately I had a terrible experience with Mr Mikes plumbing. They did not show up for the first appointment as discussed. When they came the following day they did not have the necessary parts to do the job despite me sending photos and descriptions of the issues. When they finally got the parts they had me sign for the service without explanation or a quote, and I was overcharged a large amount. My initial quote had been $600 less than the charge. They have not provided detailed information about the service upon request. They do not include detailed receipts with their service. They tried to offer $100 compensation when I argued the charge. This is unacceptable when they do not provide detailed receipts. Mike was unprofessional when dealing with this issue, however; we were able to agree on a refund amount after I told him I disputed the charge with the bank. Mike then sent a cheque for $100 and not the agreed upon amount. When I finally received the proper reimbursement from Mike, I called to notify the bank I was cancelling my dispute. The bank notified me that the dispute had been approved. Mr Mikes did not respond to any contact attempts from the bank. Overall this took a lot of time and effort but do not let that stop you if you are overcharged by this company. In the future I hope this company focuses on improvement strategies for customer satisfaction. read more
