In Northern Alberta good restaurants can be far and few - That isn't to knock business owners, but it is the truth. Between run down properties, revolving doors of staff and inexperience/negligence in cooking. Mr Mikes in Slave Lake is exactly what you would expect it to be - A comfortable and familiar face if you're coming from the big city or coming into town from camp. The atmosphere is as you'd expect too - cozy, relatively up to date but still resembling the chain of restaurants it belongs to. Speaking for myself and my partner, we have yet to have a bad experience at the restaurant. Our food has always been on our table within a reasonable time, the staff have always been personable and our meals have been good. We often eat the steak, pastas or miscellaneous appetizers and not once have we had a bad experience. Albeit the business does appear to have younger staff who may be students that make occasional small and minor errors, but I'm not that guy to hold those kids feet to the fire. The general manager and upper management team are very welcoming and I'm happy in a small way to support their business. In general I like Mr. Mikes, this one wasn't bad. The food was decent but the service was a touch slow. The person I was with was a bit let down they didn't have his brand of whiskey. I know they can't have everyone BUT his is very common imo. The pricing of course was in line with any place this style. I would go again, don't get me wrong on that. I just think with a little competition in the city maybe it would be slightly better. But right now the have Slave on lockdown! read more

Went to MrMikes with the family. Kiddo ordered the cheese quesadilla and said it was okay. Adults ordered the spinach dip to start. It was awful. Runny and tasteless. Do not recommend. I had the Classic Mikeburger and upgraded to garlic parmesan fries. Fries were amazing. Worth the extra dollar. Hamburger was meh. Pre-made patty, dry.. pretty blah. Husband had the Bandera Sandwich. I'm usually always up for me mikes once a week when I travel so I was looking for rd to it when o got to Slave. The service was pretty slow although it was very busy. Then the food cane. I've ordered the same dish before. The 8oz sirloin medium rare with a stuffed potato. For some reason the potato was cold inside like it was frozen and didn't have that crispy top to it. My steak was more like blue rare to rare. They were very busy but for the price you'd think they'd be up to par with the kegs and the sawridges I'd Alberta. Most of the ones I've been to were good. It was a Friday night and the restaurant was busy. Usually a busy restaurant is a good sign! When we asked how long the wait would be, we were met with blank stares. Once seated the server came by to take our orders. I decided to try the Grilled Chicken & Red Pepper Quesadilla and Salad, my husband had a Bacon MikeBurger and his mother had the Chicken Tenders and Fries. It took a while for our food to arrive. It was busy, so that's completely understandable! My Quesadilla was cold and had hardly any chicken in it. The chicken itself was processed, had a spongy texture and tasted terrible. There was a small amount of diced red peppers and green onions and barely any cheese. Basically a dry tortilla with almost nothing in it. The salad was the typical mix of iceberg lettuce with a few carrots and a piece of cucumber...Definitely NOT worth $14. My husband's burger was mediocre at best. This is unfortunate considering it seems Mr. Mike's specializes in burgers and steaks. The Mikeburger comes on half a french loaf. The bread was tough and forced you to chase the hamburger patty around with each bite as it slipped around in the bun. My mother-inlaw's chicken tenders were the usual fried chicken fingers you would expect. Not unlike something you would find at KFC. They came with a generous portion of fries and dipping sauce. After my near empty, dry quesadilla, I decided to try the mini cheese cake bites for dessert. 3 tiny 1" cubes of low quality cheesecake for $4.99. Ridiculous. I doubt I'll ever go back. I have been to Mr Mike 3 times and 3 times I left unhappy, dissatisfied and very disappointed. Although service was excellent, the food is not. The "hamburgers" are actually chopped, compressed meat. Leathery and tough. The chicken was deep fried fat and no meat. I left it untouched minus a bite. Their kettle fries are way over seasoned and too salty. Over all, my food experience at Mr Mike , with 3 visits being equally gross, is terrible. read more
