New to SoCal I had to find a new barber. Being Mr Scissors was close to where I live, I submitted a request thru their website for an appointment and got a call back fairly quickly. Alex did a nice job in taking what I wanted for my hairstyle. Since it was early morning on a Monday the very clean and well lit shop was empty. Perhaps a little background music would have been a nice touch. The only downside was the price. Maybe I'm not accustomed to SoCal $$, but the same haircut in a high priced neighborhood in NYC was $10 cheaper there. read more

When he approached us in the wait area he asked what I wanted and I specifically said, " he's been sick and hasn't had a cut in 2 weeks so we've grown it out a bit.. don't take it down too low just blend the fade and clean his line up nicely DONT CUT HIS CURLY TOP DOWN". He agreed. Once my son was finished 20 minutes later the results proved a rush cut that was nowhere near worth $40 + a tip yo add insult to injury he failed to brush the hair out of my sons face and he was complaining of excessive hair in his eyes!!! Smh NO CUSTOMER SERVICE HE COLLECTED OUR MONEY AND DISAPPEARED TO THE BACK I suppose because he sensed that at that moment he f**cked up! In my opinion, finding a barber is as hard as finding a mechanic. You want someone who will give you the same amount of effort and care from your first haircut to your hundredth haircut. Keeping that standard, you will not be disappointed with getting your next fresh cut with CJ at Mr. Scissors (Tarzana). His skills are unmatched in the barber game, but more importantly, CJ is the most consistent in terms of providing his guests with the highest respect and, of course, a superior haircut. BONUS: the pictures I have posted along with this review have been taken 3 WEEKS AFTER my haircut with CJ. Notice how the lineup is still crisp, and how the fade still holds up. Always on the lookout for a new barber, Mr. Scissors caught my eye while driving by so I made an appointment. There's parking around the back but there's also plenty of street parking on Ventura Blvd. or the side streets. There wasn't a receptionist or anyone tending the front - everyone makes appointments via texting their barber and just show up on time. I had my haircut in the back of the barbershop. Haircut was good but the chair was literally right next to a big ass TV, so it wasn't exactly the most comfortable with it on full blast the entire time. Pay using cash or Venmo/Zelle depending on barber I guess. read more

I would give zero stars if I could. The WORST HAIRCUT I've ever gotten. I walked in to get a cut and got seated with Julio (I think that was his name, he didn't introduce himself or speak to me the whole time). The dude spent the whole time playing with TV while I was in the chair. I asked for a 5 blended sides and a half inch off the top. This dude gave me BANGS -- cut at least an inch off the front ONLY and left the middle and back long. Meanwhile on the sides, cut my sideburns to a 2 and then didn't fade it AT ALL. The dude proceeds to lie to my face when I ask, is the back supposed to be longer than the front (he said they were the same length). And then he OVERCHARGES me. A cut on their website is listed at $35+, but I got the most basic haircut possible and he asks for 40. I tried to be polite and let this abomination grow out a few days (see if its just a new style I'm not used to) and when I call back asking for a fix, says its been too long and won't honor it. TLDR: The guy doesn't speak to me at all, don't give me what I ask for, and then gives me a cut with the expertise of a blind dog. Then overcharges me. Absolute TRASH. read more

Well, sometimes you get a good haircut and sometimes you don't. I'll caveat that I expect my poor experience is more indicative of the 'barber' I got as a walk-in, and not the overall crew. Was in LA for Valentines Day weekend with the better half and decided it was time for a haircut. Whip out Yelp, check out the reviews, look for shops that take walk-ins, and boom - Mr Scissors Barbershop. When we arrived I'll admit that I was concerned. There was a line out the door yet one barber was free and didn't have appointments - that should have been the first red flag. Smelled a little like the grass and cigarettes but hey, it's Cali right? Showed the barber a picture of what I wanted and expressed that I didn't want him to touch the length of the hair on top. He glanced at the photo, looked at my hair and said 'I got this, I know what will work'. He spins my chair so that I can't see myself in the mirror or what he's doing and I have flashbacks of Amplify barbershop in Walnut Creek - red flag number two. He proceeds to explain that at some point during the cut he has to excuse himself to attend to some business, even though he knows it's not professional - red flag three. An hour and twenty minutes later (yes, 80 minutes) he's cut off the back half of all of the hair on top that I expressly stated I didn't want touched. His explanation? "Barbers are artists and we have to make what you want fit your head" - ummm ok. To top it off, they only take cash. Which is fine unless your barber tells you he doesn't have change and can't make small bills so he ends up with a 100% tip for a shitty job. If you don't have a regular barber here or aren't 'part of their crew', save yourself and go somewhere else. read more

Ive been getting my fresh cuts with Willie Will at Mr. Scissors for over a year now. Went to see him again last week and I asked a Willie Will to give me something new to work with. Willie showed me some new styles and he recommended something similar but a little tighter on the side to the top than what I currently had. And so Willie Will did his magic. Next thing you know Voila! He gave me a fresh new look and as always shaped my beard nice and clean. I was really digging the line he drew on the side of my head that stretch to the back. Can't wait to come back and get it tightened up again in a few weeks. This might sound crazy but I drive from Burbank to come see Willie Will. His work is worth every mile and minute you sit in traffic. Willie Will is a great guy, very humble, works on your hair meticulously until it's perfect and will accommodate your time in the best way possible. Walked in without An appointment because I got the urge to get a shave by a barber and waited about 3 minutes till I got seated with Nadie. The important thing here is the 1st 3 minutes; I got to scope out several of the Barber's already With clients exercising their crafts. All of them were working with passion which was evident and what motivated me to write this review. I've been going to Other Cuts for as long as I can remember cause it was quick and easy and never bothered to venture away cause I didn't care. The shave brought me here and Watching those cats in the beginning made me want to get a cut too. Unlike at Other cuts where it's a turbo cut these guys don't rush and perform a quality master cut- there's really a contrast to watch. I should mention this was my first time getting a shave By another person . I've been shaving for over 3 decades and I'm certain I've never given myself such a phenomenal close shave like I got today, thank you for hooking it up and a great cut too. This place has good energy, good music and great service. There's a cool lounge in the back with a pool table, plenty of screens throughout to keep your eyes on when you're not in the conversation.
