The fries that come with the poutine are frozen fries that can be found in the freezer aisle at Walmart. The wait time was almost 10 minutes, just for a poutine. The staff didn't seem to care about the customers either. The inside was ghetto, and ALLEGEDLY there are rats living in the walls, I do not know if it is true, but I definitely don't want to risk it.

At long last, I finally get to cross off this shop from my quest. And after so many attempts and such conflicting reviews by my pears was it worth the wait?? Meh' I find myself in the middle of the road. It's not bad. Shop itself needs some work and a dose of character. The two, portable, home AC units they have gerry-rigged (looks like they are not up to code...) were a nice touch. Clean enough. One employee I saw was pleasant though I'm not sure she washed her hands after handling cash. There were no questions asked when I ordered my regular donair ($7.50). Typically a conversation is had regarding toppings...cheese...and of course choice of sauce. Nope. She just headed to the back and began making it. Thankfully...It wound up with sweet sauce, lettuce and tomato, but had that not been what I wanted, we may had an issue. Donair itself was decent. A little on the small size. Meat was good. Veggies were a little bland. Could have been fresher. Pita was soft. Sweet sauce was also not too shabby. While I certainly wasn't "knocked out" by anything...I was actually caught off guard by the meal shining above everything else about the place. I'm pleased enough that I may one day stop in and check out the value of their large donair for $10. If this were my local shop, only finding it open after 3 tries may turn me off. But I'd keep my eyes peeled for their open sign...and give'em another chance if the stars aligned.

Burgers are made fresh and smashed just right, not too thin that they crumble at the edges or fall apart in the bun. All burgers are two patty minimum. The most basic burger costs $12, and comes with cheese and a ton of fresh veggie and traditional toppings. A burger combo is $17 and includes a drink. Upgrade to a poutine or a milkshake for a couple of bucks. Their fries are really good, chunky and made fresh. Haven't tried the milkshakes. Proper old-school burger joint food. Compare with fast food and other small local burger places. A quarter pounder at McD's costs $8 these days, crazy. At places like Woodshed or Foxburger, you can't get just a burger, and prices start at $14 (single patty no cheese) or even $20. Drinks are extra. I love these local burger places too, but the burger quality is similar in my opinion, and I really like the style of burger served here. Let's Smash has the Goldilocks "just right" kind of smash, the burger buns hold up to the contents, and the toppings are fresh and flavourful though not as fancy as other places. One time though, I had a burger here that was topped with gyro toppings, specifically the pickled veggies, and it was delicious. We always sit in, there's plenty of seating space, and usually some soccer or European music contests on the TV at a low volume. Service is efficient, order at the counter and have a seat. No alcohol service means less trouble, which is nice for lunch or early supper on Jasper Ave. We generally get friendly service and have never felt forgotten or neglected for the steady stream of delivery drivers.

Delicious burger! Served with fries. Was prepared in 7 minutes. The ambiance is pop music.read more

Jollibee fried chicken…read more I remember when the first restaurant of this Filipino chain opened up here in Edmonton, hearing that some people camped out, and I witnessed the super long line-ups of apparently loyal Jollibee followers that were there daily, the line-ups of which lasted for a couple of weeks. Good thing they had the large tents to shelter the cue from the elements as they made their way through line. I thought to myself, "Wow, I'm not sure if I've ever seen a line-up like that for the opening of a restaurant before! Once the lines go down, I'll have to try one day!" But not being in any hurry, I did some reading and research for what seemed to make the chicken so special, and tried making some "copy-cat" recipes at home, so the urgency of trying the real thing waned. Now that several more Jollibees have opened up over the past couple of years in Edmonton and through the Pandemic, and the long lines have dwindled, we finally decided to try the fried chicken. Having previous experience with Filipino style spaghetti, we gave that a pass. We ordered a 10 piece bucket to go, and the cashier allowed our request to substitute 2 pieces of the regular with spicy (though I like spicy, it usually covers the taste of other spices so I prefer to add something later). A pleasant surprise were the 2 containers of gravy that accompanies the order of chicken. The crunch of the evenly coated fried chicken was very, very good, nicely seasoned with a background taste of five spice. The meat was moist and juicy, and I'd guess that the pieces were brined prior to coating and frying. The pieces of thigh and drumsticks were quite large and meaty, much larger and more even than what KFC provides (Canadian KFC seems to use smaller pieces that the US does, but it's been a while for either since we've last had some). The evenly numbered pieces of drumsticks and thighs overflowed the bucket supplied, and it was impossible to fit the lid on, so the lid was supplied perched on top. As KFC doesn't seem to be as tasty as I remember it in the past, again admittedly a while since I had any, but we both thought Jollibee was much tastier. The 2 pieces of spicy were a surprise! As I said, I like spicy foods, and Jollibee's spice level was not disappointing! Likely too spicy for many people, so I'd advise caution for those not so inclined. As expected, if there were other spices like five spice powder in the mix, it would be difficult to pick it out, but as was the regular, the spicy chicken was very flavourful. The gravy was very good, not spicy and with a stronger umami and slightly sweeter taste than KFC. It went well on the fries that I made at home (par-boiled, tossed in a slurry of corn starch, and double fried for a really satisfying crunch). So Jollibee's fried chicken is certainly worth trying you get the chance, if only to see what the fuss is about. Certainly better than most other fried chickens available. I can see why Jollibee has become the successful chain that it has with its legions of loyal fans.

I got the classic Nashville sandwich with fries and a drink. The ultra flame is incredibly spicy ,( I asked if anyone has ordered it..she said not yet ). I like spicy but I also want to taste my food. The ladies there were outgoing and easy to talk to while i waited . Not long and i was out the door. Got home and opened the container . Good size portion fries. The chicken in my sandwich was a perfect size and tasted amazing . So what's a Nashville classic? What's on it. Chicken breast, coleslaw , pickles and comeback sauce ( no idea what that even means ). It was delicious though. BTW it's across the street from sweet mango ( if you attended that yelp event , you'll know where it is ) in the strip mall. Orders are made fresh upon ordering ( not sitting in some hot box ) .
