Service was quick, waitress was polite and patient to take our order for a big family on Fathers Day night. When my drink order was taken I asked if they had tap water instead of bottled waters which they were selling. She said no but I was welcomed to bring down my water bottle from the car if I had one. Which was really appreciated. The establishment was busy, parking lot was crowded and restroom was clean. The tacos were overly greasy so I'd recommend asking for "A La Plancha" or Tacos "saludables" which is oil from the when the tortillas are warmed on the grill and saludables would be a healthy option. They didn't taste any special or have a WOW presentation but they are 100% authentic and simple. Truthfully, I ended up getting Food Poisoning from the poor handling of food; the meat genuinely didn't feel cooked throughly. The order was rushed out within 7mins max and that was concerning. You do have to order everything separately to complete your meal which isn't a problem as most of the crowd seemed to comply to how the Buisness sells their products. Would I recommend this location on a busy day? No. Would I say maybe it was a long shift or just a bad cook that night? Maybe. Would I recommend them for The Valleys Best Tacos: Absolutely Not. Underneath that thick layer of queso fresco, are 4 juicy, and delicious El Pastor tacos. Each order comes with, the standard cilantro, and regular onions on top. In addition to the regular onions, you'll also get a heap full of grilled onions, on the side, and a-couple of slices of avocado. As a side order, I usually order the frijoles especial.. you'll get a cup of charro beans, with meat mixed in it (not sure if you can tell them what kind of meat, you want in it), then it's topped of with another heap full of queso fresco, and garnished with a slice or two of avocado. Then you can wash all that down with either American sodas, or Mexican sodas, or aguas frescas. This is my go place, when I crave some awesome tacos here in Browntown, ( That's Brownsville for non Valley peeps). Give them a try next time you're in town. read more

This place is simply brilliant! 5 star hands down. Best tacos that side of the valley (well at least Brownsville) ! I went to Mr. Taco Wednesday noon time frame. A few folks were there but it was not busy at all. This is the location right off of Boca Chica Blvd. so onward to the food. I ordered three tacos : one fajita and two pastor. I ordered it with everything so it was onions , cilantro and Mexican (white) cheese . This place gets the Rick 5 star approval because of how consistent and great the food is. Not only do they know how to make tortillas but the portions are fair and the food is great tasting . I enjoyed the tacos de trompo (pastor) the best. Use the red or green salsa! The green is my favorite and what I loved is that they even seemed to warm up the salsa ahead of time so it added that extra little touch to things. We ordered some loaded beans (forgot what they called them but it's an appetizer of beans with cheese and avocado). They are really good and hit several flavor profiles. Everyone has their favorite taqueria and Mr. Taco is mine and is the standard by which I find myself judging all others. There are a few things which make this one stand out. First of all you can order one or multiple tacos and aren't locked into a certain number. I usually get bistec, pastor, barbacoa or a combo of all three. Secondly, they are generous with the toppings including the avocado and cheese. Third, their grilled onions are SO delicious. And fourth, their meat is just so perfectly seasoned and delicious. At other places I've tried, the meat runs the gamut from bland to overly-strong, nasty meaty funkiness (here's looking at you El Ultimo). Add a frijoles especiales to your order (charro beans with toppings) and a perfectly sweet-tart limonada! Enjoy! We will certainly be back! read more

Also, I greatly appreciate Mr. Taco's willingness to put up with my terrible Spanish. My go-to order -- which should be yours too -- is an order of bistek tacos, with avocado, grilled onions, and a dusting of queso fresco. For $7, you will find yourself floating on a corn tortilla through taco euphoria. I am thoroughly convinced that Mr. Taco's tacos are the best tacos in the world. Yelp pointed me to Mr. Taco. Meh was my first reaction. But after reading all the good reviews, I decided to give it a try. My dining experience was certainly an adventure b/c it was a Spanish speaking only restaurant. I had to point to the pictures to place my order. But the staff there were super nice nevertheless. I ordered the bistek and barbacoa tacos to try. My order came quickly with loaded cheese, cilantro, grilled onions, and a huge bowl of key lime. The food was very fresh and flavorful. The best part? The taco is 99 cents each! Yes, 99 cents!! I couldn't even believe it. The second night after a long day at the beach feeling exhausted and starving, I went right back to Mr. Tacos b/c of the positive experience I had the previous evening. This time, I ordered one of each five flavors on the menu and a soup. Again, my order came quickly. They were just as good as the day before. My only complaint was that they put too much cheese in the soup and also on the tacos. I do like cheese but eating too much isn't healthy. Other than that, five stars! Best tacos we've ever had! With Covid we haven't ate out much but this place was super clean! It's probably the cleanest taqueria I've been to. There was someone constantly cleaning on the other hand the service was GREAT. Our waiter was so sweet and kept checking on us. The tacos were bomb! Upon walking in, I was concerned for what I was getting myself into due to the cleanliness. I've never seen such a disgusting floor in a "restaurant." There's food, napkins, paper all over the floor, and tables needing to be cleaned up. Unfortunately, none of the staff seem to care. It's concerning to even think what the kitchen must look like if they allow the actual seating area to be that unkept. The restroom trash cans are overflowing with toilet paper...another disappointment. Once you get over the uncleanliness, you hope the food is worth the environment. Being a frequent visitor to Mexico City, I can say they don't have a clue on how to make "tacos al pastor." They should just take that option off the menu, since it's the worst attempt I've ever had. I felt like I was eating burnt crispy red scraps from I don't know what animal. As for their beans, they weren't bad, but Ultimo Tacos are way better. I tried the bistec tacos, and I think that's the only reason why I even gave them 2 stars. The meat has flavor and if you're okay with a greasier tortilla it adds more flavor. They could do with less cheese, but overall they were good. They don't compare with actual tacos from Mexico City, but they can satisfy the craving. With all that said, I will continue to frequent Ultimo Taco for the peace of mind that they care about hygiene. read more

Even though this is the only taco joint that we've been to that has run out of queso blanco, and if its not the cheese they were running out of it was the tortillas they had run out of. despite those major hiccups, They do serve up some awesome authentically Mexican 'street tacos! Its a city staple and one of the two major taco joints in this border town. Between Mr. Taco's food and the other major competitor, I'm pressed to say its a close toss up. Although the other one may be busier because its convenient location next to the highway, but its waitstaff isn't known to be as courteous or attentive, to say the least.
