Drive thru lady starting being racist when I started speaking English. Responded to me very well in English..."what can I get for you today, sir" , was able to take my order then had a problem when telling me the price. So I pulled around, then she continued the act at the window and continued to act like she knew no English while having the biggest smirk on her face. No big deal at that point. She handed me my sweet tea. And came back a few seconds later to tell me I could pull up over there in crystal clear English. So I did, went to drink the sweet tea and noticed it had 5 cubes of ice and it was a large. Took a sip and almost threw up because it was so sweet. I poured it out and there was over an inch of syrup in the bottom which you clearly don't get from pouring out of a spout. Now I knew she was messing with me. So the manager came out there after I poured my tea out so I guess they were watching me. I told him what happened and that I wanted my money back and he didn't question anything so he obviously knew what was going on and he got me my money back and I left. We all have that friend/coworker who loves certain places that we know weren't not going to like. Of course I didn't know my coworker who we'll call Karen (not her real name) loved this place. Sadly she told me after I checked this place out. I ordered the breakfast tacos using their app around 820PM. Showed up at the 835PM delivery time and they still didn't have my order complete until I asked the lady in my broken Spanish: ?donde esta order ochenta y tres por favor? If you can't translate that, learn español! Anyways, right after I asked her, another employee looked at the ticket and started preparing my eats. Food was made and handed to me around 845ish. What's the point of an online food order if they can't have your order by the pickup time? Anyways, get back to my hotel and found out some of the order was incorrect. Ordered 3 breakfast tacos (eggs and potatoes) with added cheese and beans to all three. Sadly all the tacos were missing one or more items. One missed cheese and potatoes, one missed beans, one missed potatoes. Pissed me off although the taste and the sauces I picked up at the sauce bar made helped compensate for the error. Decided to try this place after seeing the commercials on TV. It is an average place with nothing special. Not a place I would be frequenting. The presentation of the food is unimpressive. I found it expensive for the amount of food you get. The quality is a tad better than a Taco Bell. Do not bother paying $2 for a fountain drink. Either they do not use filtered water or the machines are not cleaned. There are plenty of restaurants that serve better for the same amount of money. read more

They also have a large area just with complimentary chips and salsa, all the condiments like onions, cilantro, a variety of sauces, radishes and many more for your meals. Sad to say this place has let me down. After years of eating here and supporting them, we have decided to forgo ordering from here anymore. Second time we have ordered delivery and huge portions of our order are missing. Very strange that it's the same things. Feels as though someone is purposely leaving them off or taking them out for themselves. When we call they are not helpful. This time they told us they could fix it if we came in. Very disappointed...curbside designated parking spots were being used for dine in. None of the staff or management seemed to care who parks there. I had to park across the parking lot. The salsa bar at Taco Palenque is truly exceptional. I've eaten at them in Laredo and all across the valley and they have always been consistently good. They have ao many different salsas to suit anyone's flavor and heat preference. They also have fried jalapenos and diced fresh jalapeños as well as onions and lots of other goodies to accent your food. On two trips here I had the beef fajita panchos, a crispy taco and the beef fajitas for two. They were all excellent. The fajitas have a nice marinated flavor and the bed of grilled onions accompanies it well. The rice and beans were good as well, and the flour tortillas had a nice texture and flavor. The panchos (nachos with beans, cheese and meat) had a really good liquid cheese on them. The crispy taco had nice beef picadillo. Highly recommend this place. read more

I ordered some breakfast tacos for delivery, including 2 "junior barbacoa" tacos. Those were so oily and greasy, the tortillas were soaked and couldn't eat. Each small taco had about 1+ tablespoon of oil dripping out of it. read more

My favorite place to eat every single day. They have a lot of different foods to choose from. Not only that you can sometimes make your own like myself. Always get chilaquiles. First time here! I had to write a review. I ordered the fajita parrillada and the meat was tender and juicy. The beans were excellent as well! I rarely eat beans but these I ate them all! Everything was delicious from the fajita to the veggie bar. That's what made it worth the price. From fresh jalapeños to chiles toreados to lettuce, cabbage and different sauces galore! The food is a rating of 3*s at this establishment. The staff needs improvement in customer service. They lack in eye contact greeting, friendliness and acknowledgement of their customers. I have many times overheard, seen and experienced this type of rudeness. One person delivers orders to tables, cleans the dinning area and refills the food bar. Obviously Taco Palenque this person needs help. The floors, dinning tables, drink station and food bar are for the most part of the day very unclean. The wait time is the worst! The employees are rude! The food is expensive. When you go through the drive thru, they make you wait so long and you have to move up to a different spot to wait. Sometimes it seems like they forget about you because they start serving all the cars behind you (I just ordered a couple of tacos, not a buffet). I've been to several and they all do this. And some will make you park on the side of the road to wait for your order even if there is no one behind you, which is dangerous. Then made me pay the difference, I had to wait while the other person I was with finished their food. The food was not very quality and seemed messy. The chips were not fully cooked. If I could give more stars I would. I absolutely LOVE this location. I live in Harlingen but work in Mcallen so I've been to the ones on 10th street. I've been a few times to the new location that opened in Harlingen. I was excited to have one closer to me, but the food was not as fresh as I am used to (picky eater). Yet, Taco Palenque in Brownsville (the one that is next to a Starbucks) has a different atmosphere. You walk to that location and you are greeted with friendly faces. From management to regular employees, the fajitas, the chips, and the salsa bar are absolutely the best! (trust me I've been to several locations). They even have mariachis on Sundays! I take my parents so they can enjoy their meals while listening to their favorite songs. By far our favorite place to spend quality time with the family. Even though I live in Harlingen, I don't mind the long drive because I am certain that I will have a good time and enjoy my meal. Excellent place, excellent customer service, excellent food!
