Okay, so we all don't like knick knacks and from the outside of this glorious shop in Newtown…read morethat's about all it looks like....But don't judge a shop by its cover, because inside you'll be consumed for hours. I had initially stopped by because I was looking for an oil burner, but what I found was so much more and left with an armful. There were pillows and African fabrics, Japanese china and Moroccan lamps, candles and jewellery, handwoven baskets and hand painted frames. The textures and smells hypnotized. I could see a spot for each found gem in my place at home. I need this right? I kept telling myself. The staff is friendly and the prices are affordable. Don't forget to head upstairs for larger pieces such as dressers and stools. They take cards and cash so don't worry and prepare to spend some time.

The window display caught my eye first. How do you walk past a gorgeous Japanese frock on a mannequin with a cheerful deer for a head, swimming in a river of painted squirrels holding tulips? I know. Pretty damn near impossible. Prepare to be charmed and ticked to death by everything inside Made 590. From tiny Japanese tooth holding boxes to small magnet sets that look like household items, the "awwweeeeee" factor is certainly there. If you're searching for something gift-y, the books and home wears are a sure fire hit. Try a Sydney gourmet kitchens book paired with a wooden apple clock. And don't even get me started on the t-shirts. The designers behind these screen-printed images have irony in their bag. How's the scene of a deer driving a car and catching a naked man in it's headlights? Genius. If you're less inclined to wear nudity on your chest, there's also a fair pick of G rated designs too. Even the window display replaces your stock mannequins with animal headed bodies. The pretty colours and cutsey theme keeps this from being at all spooky, instead it all feels a bit tongue-in-cheek! There are some beautiful light and summery dresses for sale which would flatter any figure and use really original fabrics, as well as some t-shirts and skirts with the signature animal caricatures embezzled on them. There is also a real stress upon arts and crafts here too with quirky stationary and books on making things at home decorating one wall. My mum would likely call them clutters rather than treausures, but each to their own. If it makes your home a home, then it's a treasure. And theres some lamps. I guess as a store, it mike lack some use, but as a perfumed, confortable, and quiet oriental tresure hunt, it's a nice place to stop into. And there are some bags too. (In fact, this is the store where those crazy kids Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth were snapped by the paps when they were in Sydney earlier in the year.) This shop is great for gifts and homewares like rugs and lamps. Everything is extra colourful, so be careful you don't get caught up in it like I did and end up walking out with a so-bright-it-hurts-my-eyes skirt I'll never wear again. Nevertheless, every few weeks I throw on a kaftan and a string of pearls and wander around Avenue Joffre because some of the stuff they've got in there is just so damn rad. I dig old, quirky, imported, *different* homewares and this place has a constant rotation of them. Like the old, paint-faded Indian doors for a cool two hunj (check out one of the photos). I don't know who their suppliers are - they could source from a Persian leper and I wouldn't much care - just as long as they keep slinging the quality that they have until now.
