I am an expectant mother and set an appointment to meet with Dawn (Director) at Dawn's Early Light…read more I told her that I would be driving quite a distance to come meet with her and that I would have to leave work early in order to make it to her facility during her business hours. We had set an appointment to meet and I had left work two hours early to make our 5pm appointment time. When I arrived, I was told by multiple unsupervised children, probably around 7-8 years old, that Dawn was not in the office today. I asked the children if there was an adult I could talk to and find out if Dawn was on her way or if she was not intending to keep our appointment. I was directed to what appeared to be a teenage boy who was evidently in charge of watching these unsupervised children who were all over the place, including playing in the parking lot. I asked him if he knew if Dawn was on her way or if he knew where she was. He had no information. I was later approached by Brandy who took me into the infant room to provide me with a tour. I was required to remove my shoes prior to entry into the infant room and stepped on either a piece of glass or a sharp clear plastic that was on the floor. Since the purpose of my meeting with Dawn was to discuss paperwork (that she promised to send via email but never did) and provide a deposit to hold a spot, I asked Brandy if Dawn had left a packet for me or something. Brandy checked her office but found nothing. Dawn, as the director, is the only one with the authority to go through the paperwork with me and make the amendment that we discussed to allow my deposit to be refundable. At this point I realized I had wasted all my time driving and accomplished nothing. Here's the kicker... I had called Dawn the following day to find out why she was unable to keep her appointment and why I didn't receive a phone call stating that she would not be able to meet. She said her daughter got sick on the field trip that she had taken the kids on because of the heat. (There was a heat advisory and air quality warning but she took young children on a field trip to an outdoor-only park.) She decides to send me the paperwork via email that she was supposed to send earlier in the week OR we were supposed to review together during our appointment that she stood me up for. Immediately following that email, she sends me another email stating that she doesn't believe that I would be a good fit for her facility claiming that I was discourteous, intimidating and frightening to her staff. I am 5'2", 130lbs., was in fancy business attire and pumps and am pregnant. So intimidating, right? So now I'm blacklisted from this facility because she didn't have the respect or professionalism to give me a quick call to notify me that she would not be able to keep our appointment. I guess everything works out for the best because after my visit to Dawn's Early Light, I wouldn't want to leave my newborn child in the care of such inconsiderate, unreliable, and unprofessional people.

At the time, we needed to tour while there were no kids there (of course due to the pandemic), but we were so thrilled by how our daughter took to Ms. Carla. When our daughter started, Ms. Carla assured us that our little one was happy and cared for by sending picture updates and all the fun little crafts home. She was active, learning, and playing. Sona is truly a child whisperer in the way that she is able to meet children exactly where they are and lead them into their most amazing selves.
