Then in 1967, the Washington Township Public Library opened on Fairview Ave. As the population of Washington Township continued to grow, the library moved to larger quarters on Schooley's Mountain. As the Township continued to grow it was recognized that a new facility was needed. Ground was broken in Rock Spring Park for a new facility May 1995. The new library opened to the public June 1996.

You can really tell that everyone here loves what they do. Ever since moving to Newton a few years ago, I have frequented this library, and more so in the past few months. I want to extend a huge thank you to Mrs. Larsen, the principal library assistant, who always makes sure to get my obscure movie requests filled. If you're ever traversing Newton, stop by this gem of a library. They always have many programs going on, like the Delectable Delights Cookbook Club and Craft of the Week for kids.

There is no inter-county library loan. Selection-wise, there are a few books I always check to see if a decent library has, and they have them, as well as Wii games and an impressive DVD collection, but the sense of community, of going to a library to do research or look at new books or whatever, is just gone, only adding to the anti-intellectualism America does so well. It's completely dystopian and disappointing. I know that libraries have to follow state mandates and are often the first things closed during virus surges, but this once-impressive library is just in a sad state.

My favorite part of the library is the online access to 7,000+ online newspapers and magazines. The worldwide selection of the top newspapers from around the the world is an indispensable resource for me. I also find my favorite periodicals as well, like Scientific American. Science News, Smithsonian, National Geographic and Discovery magazine. You can have most of their materials shipped to your local library which can be very convenient.
