Honestly? Really? Are you joking? If I did not know what the Dyker Heights/Bensonhurst neighborhood was like, and I decided to take the N (which stands for "nasty") or D (which stands for "dirty") train here to check out the area, I would probably get right back on the train as soon as I got off. What a despicable gateway to the neighborhood the New Utrecht Avenue / 62nd Street subway station is. Having grown up in New York City, I understand that subway stations are not generally the benchmark of what is great about this place, but I am not even joking when I say that I am truly disgusted by this disastrous excuse for a transportation portal. I can't decide what I like least about this station - The crumbling paint (I'm sure it's chock full o' lead/asbestos), the putrid stench that permeates the filthy station house (which hilariously has bathrooms!) or perhaps the fact that if the atmospheric humidity outside is higher than 3%, something in here is dripping (or the floor is simply soaking wet/slippery which happens about 85% of the time). The platforms are in horrible disrepair (I am not kidding when I say that the roof on the upper platform has blown away [it is outdoors]). The sad part of it all is that I can really see that this station has good bones (being over-analytical here, but when you wait in this station for the N train as often and as long as I do [you know that shit never comes], you notice these things). The outside of the station house has some nice decorative tile motifs on it, the lower platform (where the N train runs) is formed by an arched colonnade (that is falling apart), etc. It would just take some general maintenance on part of the MTA to at least not make me fear for my life when I use this station. Not to mention that when you finally do make it through all the despair-inducing parts of the station, you step outside to face the highest quality elements any neighborhood could possibly offer - A check cashing place, a hot mess of a convenience store that isn't even really good enough to be called a Bodega and sidewalks so full of litter that I thought for a second that they were actually made of Tampico labels. I would love to actually see one of our hack local politicians use this station on a regular basis like I do - The state of it is an affront to the thousands of taxpayers who use it all the time and even worse is the fact that it's a hub for two major express lines (and a local line, the M train) that serve Southwest Brooklyn. Be on the lookout for falling pieces of ceiling, general filth and that warm, fuzzy third world feeling you get when you know you're in the wrong place. Welcome to the neighborhood! read more

MTA - Metro Stations Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Finally! after a 2 year wait, the Coney Island bound platform for the N train at this station has been officially restored. The station overall looks very good and in much better condition than it was before. The station itself got a much needed facelift and upgrade which included better lighting, newer countdown clocks and 4 new elevators. The elevators are currently still being worked on and the stairs that you use to transfer to the D train is also being worked on which really sucks because by now you'd think that MTA can get renovations done on time but in reality they're never on time. And to make matters worse you'll need to walk to the other D train entrance on 60th St which is pretty inconvenient especially in the hot summer weather because you'll be shaking your head and be like: "MTA you had one job". read more

It's a train station....love it or hate it...eventually a train will come... It used to be creepy on the upper level (D line), where you'd know a train is coming by the way the station sways even before the train has arrived. They recently made changes to the upper level(front and rear stairs). I'm glad they finally fixed the roof because when it would rain, water would leak in every place, you'd have to use your umbrella even though the roof is supposed to cover you. Now it's time to make some renovations to the lower level (N line). read more

A train station is a train station. This train station has nothing special about it except a few negative things. It is dilapidated due to age, and it smells. It's more neglected than your average train station, which brings the rating down from 3 stars (typical) to 2 (suckish). It could use a lot of upgrades and improvement. I bet almost every person would describe train stations as the same thing. A train station is a train station. It's a station for trains, not some huge plaza. Don't let the fact that this train station is, need I say it, terrible, keep you from going to this train station. The only important thing about this station is that trains board passengers there. Definitely go there if that's the closest place to go to. Just some minor issues in the cleanliness and upkeep categories. So yeah, my final statement, drumroll please... Is... Meh. This station is good for making switches from the bmt to the ind or reverse order. The problem to make connections is either you walk up, over and thru the tunnel or down and thru the doors. Either way 75% of the time you miss connection. It could also use a improvement upgrade, Not that safe. It's dirty and smells like piss. Beware of rude booth clerks and bird's dropping poop on your head. You can usually find a police officer in the station. read more

Fuction over form it is a hub after all! There are some cool warehouses in the vicinity to daze at while waiting for a train to come. I find peace downstairs on the N line in the summer when the ivy is growing on the walls. A cool station for graffitiing also, the artwork looks better here for some reason. read more

Wow. I consider myself lucky that I'm at least somewhat of a "seasoned tourist", because if any of those corn-fed Midwestern folks ended up in this subway station, I think they'd have coronaries. If subway stations had contests for being run-down, dirty, overrun with weeds and peeling lead-based paint everywhere, this one would win the Oscar. Maybe I'm too used to the D.C. subway, which is at least well-maintained; but this one, dear God almighty - it's just bad, okay? You don't dare lean against a wall to wait for the train, because those paint chips will end up on your clothes or in your hair. There was water dripping from light fixtures - isn't this a fire hazard or something? And one of the most shocking things of all - no elevators or escalators here. Just steps and nothing but. How do people in wheelchairs ride the train here? Isn't this illegal? Look, I know this is the New York subway. I also know that there's a bit of a historical thing going on here - I get that. But it is absolutely inexcusable in this day and age, in 2012, not to have disabled accommodations available for your customers. People in wheelchairs, with walkers, using canes - just skip it, because you're not going to get on this train here. I saw at least 4 people struggling down STEEP flights of stairs with 50, 100 pound strollers. What IS this crap? The ONLY reason I'm giving this place even two stars is - 1. It's at least in the open air where you can catch a cool breeze, unlike the rest of the New York subway system, which is mostly underground and freaking HOT AS HELL and 2. there IS something to look at - the graffiti, which is actually pretty damned good - they must have talented artists in Brooklyn. Otherwise, it's a waste of time and energy. And if you're a corn-fed innocent Midwestern tourist - take my advice and RUN. Run fast, run far. read more

I bearly go to new Utrecht and when I do it's running erreds for my family...just a normal train station but gets crowded 24/7...expically during rush hour... Lots of people get of this stop for some werid reason... Somewhat dirty...but hey it is a train station...beaware of shoplifters! read more

What an old decrepid train station! Just because they added some stained glass in a couple of places doesn't hide the fact that paint is peeling off the walls and theres more garbage on the tracks then there should be. This station sucks, but it's the most important train hub in south Brooklyn outside of Stillwell Avenue so we have to deal with it. Get the N or D here, and stay on the ground floor to wait it out and see which one is coming first. read more

This has got to be one of the most God-forsaken subway stations in a city with many horrible stations. Construction, which seems to have been there forever, blocks the 62nd Street exit so you have to walk 5 minutes out of your way to get out! there are never any staff around and it can be positively scary to stand waiting on the upper elevated level. The neighborhood is also an unbelievable pit. Its a wonder that anyone can live around there. Regrettably, I have to visit this area every so often read more

Nice station manager. Very clean and well organized. You can buy your metrocard from the station attendant without. Any issues or attitude. Very helpful station manager. Theres a toilet here but no toilet paper and very stinky. They also have a clock, three metrocard vending machines so nobody needs to fight for it or line up for a metrocard. They would also help you combine your metrocards if you need it. Very safe even late at night. Mostly quiet and loiterers. Very nice and funny train workers getting ready to switch shifts. You can take manhattan and coney island d train and n train. N train is downstairs and d train is upstairs. One thing that is amazing is that it tells you that the train is arriving without you going down to the platforms to wait for the trains, so if you can take either or trains then you can just wait inside the station and look at the signs for it to see which one is going to arrive faster. Very convenient. I have never had an issue here and I use this train station very often to either enter the train or to do transfers. The d train is faster than the n train so I usually try waiting for that one. There are usually cops in the station and sometimes bag checks but that only makes riders feel more safe and secure. read more

When the D-train dumps me here, I feel like the train and I broke up and I got the shitty end of the stick. Not only are you left here with a residing hatred for the MTA, but in addition you will be either frozen cold or boiling hot and stranded. Not to mention that there is also no shelter for rain. It's connected to the 18th Avenue N train stop, which is probably one of the most rundown stations in the borough. The loud factory noises nearby makes for an unpleasant waiting experience. read more
