Occasionally, there are NYPD police presence on the platform which fends the illusion of safety and security for New Yorkers during turbulent times for rash of hate or bias assaults. I get out on the Fulton side that leads you to Fulton St and Stuyvesant Ave across the street from Boys and Girls High School, adjacent from Fulton Park. There is no token booth, no one for customer service, and seldom NYPD available, however it is anything but grimey (that's Ebonics for dirty) and the four kiosk are always working but please be advised some mornings these kiosks do not take dollar bills. This exit is well lit and clean. The murals are a stationery to the culture of working class people and youth that attend neighboring schools that access the A/C trains daily. 4 stars because the MTA tore down our Token Booth. This subway station is located adjacent to Frederick Douglass Circle, a traffic circle located at the northwest corner of Central Park at the intersection of Eighth Avenue (Frederick Douglass Boulevard and Central Park West) and 110th Street (Cathedral Parkway and Central Park North) a gateway to Harlem. This station is located at West 110th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard at the northwest corner of Central Park. The station is mosaic name tablet is in midnight blue background surrounded in black border. This midnight blue mosaic color is vibrant. There is no mezzanine above the tracks which allow a free transfer between directions, northbound/southbound. For transfers to either northbound/southbound direction straphangers would have to exit the system to street level and walk to stairwell re-entry for access with OMNY card. I always find mezzanine or passageway transfers beneficial without loosing my paid fare and without exiting to the street in the winter months. There is a customer service booth. The subway entrance/exit kiosk is modern and very simple design, but serves as function and operate rather than beauty and ornate. Artwork "Migrations" by Christopher Wynter contains three different areas of mosaic panel installation, two on each platform and one on the full-time mezzanine. It appears very muted colors. This 110th St-Cathedral Parkway subway station where Central Park West turns into Frederick…read moreDouglass Boulevard, serviced in the daytime by B & C trains and A at night, has interesting mosaic murals entitled "Migration" by Chris Wynter, a local artist who also teaches at Pratt. You'll notice the 2018 recent bright renovations, including digital signage, and ability to cross between Uptown and Downtown lines make the station pleasant to use, if you don't mind the stairs. Nevertheless, the MTA SHAMEFULLY DID NOT INSTALL ANY ELEVATORS when they invested in the 2018 renovation - OUTRAGEOUS, considering that this station abuts the Northwest corner of Central Park, at the North Woods section! (Also, Morningside Park starts one block away!) People who cannot easily navigate the stairs, such as with strollers, carriages, or wheelchairs cannot easily use this subway station!!! Hard to believe, given the station is at a traffic circle, that there wasn't some location for MTA to accommodate the required elevators to make subway travel to this part of Central Park or Morningside Park easy for everyone!

My wife and I used this station as our gateway to get to other parts of Manhattan and ultimately to get back to JFK airport. The NYC subway system originally operated as three separate, competing companies [IRT - Interborough Rapid Transit; BMT - Brooklyn-Manhattan Transit; IND - Independent Subway System] before unifying in 1940. Numbered trains represent former IRT lines, whereas Lettered trains represent former BMT and IND trains. The Flushing Line platform (1 island platform with 2 tracks) opened in 1926 as part of the IRT. It now services the 7 train. The Sixth Avenue Line station (2 island platform with 4 tracks) opened in 1940 as part of the IND. It now services the B, D, F, and M trains. An underground passageway between the two stations was completed in 1971, allowing for free in-system transfers. The complex is the 13th busiest station in the system.

The Cloisters is a few minutes away up the big hill. Choose either of the Dyckman stations that are here. It serves the A Train. The other one is for the1 Train. Basically this is the nicer one. Mostly clean and safe which is what you want in a station. Also has a great location. Has a whole lot of cafes and restaurants. It's the next to last stop on the A. The 190th Street station is before it. The 207th Street station is after it. Also there's Fort Tryon Park close by. It's one of the big parks around here. The Cloisters is the main attraction here and is what brings most people up this way.

It might sometimes be called Midtown - 57th Street in some references and is directly adjacent to Carnegie Hall. The station is completely handicapped accessible, which I found helpful today as I was dragging my rollaboard and not interested in going down a flight or two of stairs. Surprisingly, the elevator did NOT smell of pee! The mezzanine level has the usual fare controls including ticketing kiosks and turnstiles. There is another elevator down to the platform level. For a station that is over 100 years old (it opened in 1919), I found it reasonable clean and well lit. Better than many of the MTA stations on Manhattan. Located in MidTown Manhattan, Times Square, Garment District, also Hell's Kitchen is nearby. This MTA station serves several Subway trains including the A, C & E lines which I trequently use. You'll find stairs all through the area which will bring you downstairs to the lower level. I've mostly seen newsstands and ATM's throughout the station. Be careful of panhandler's and always watch your back. I frequently see NYPD on patrol, during major political events I've also seen US Military personnel, but you can't always rely on their presence or the use of CCTV. Download the OMNY app, use Apple Pay or you can always use and reload your Metro card using the self-serve kiosks. Be smart and travel safe.
