This subway station is located adjacent to Frederick Douglass Circle, a traffic circle located at the northwest corner of Central Park at the intersection of Eighth Avenue (Frederick Douglass Boulevard and Central Park West) and 110th Street (Cathedral Parkway and Central Park North) a gateway to Harlem. This station is located at West 110th Street and Frederick Douglass Boulevard at the northwest corner of Central Park. The station is mosaic name tablet is in midnight blue background surrounded in black border. This midnight blue mosaic color is vibrant. There is no mezzanine above the tracks which allow a free transfer between directions, northbound/southbound. For transfers to either northbound/southbound direction straphangers would have to exit the system to street level and walk to stairwell re-entry for access with OMNY card. I always find mezzanine or passageway transfers beneficial without loosing my paid fare and without exiting to the street in the winter months. There is a customer service booth. The subway entrance/exit kiosk is modern and very simple design, but serves as function and operate rather than beauty and ornate. Artwork "Migrations" by Christopher Wynter contains three different areas of mosaic panel installation, two on each platform and one on the full-time mezzanine. It appears very muted colors. This 110th St-Cathedral Parkway subway station where Central Park West turns into Frederick…read moreDouglass Boulevard, serviced in the daytime by B & C trains and A at night, has interesting mosaic murals entitled "Migration" by Chris Wynter, a local artist who also teaches at Pratt. You'll notice the 2018 recent bright renovations, including digital signage, and ability to cross between Uptown and Downtown lines make the station pleasant to use, if you don't mind the stairs. Nevertheless, the MTA SHAMEFULLY DID NOT INSTALL ANY ELEVATORS when they invested in the 2018 renovation - OUTRAGEOUS, considering that this station abuts the Northwest corner of Central Park, at the North Woods section! (Also, Morningside Park starts one block away!) People who cannot easily navigate the stairs, such as with strollers, carriages, or wheelchairs cannot easily use this subway station!!! Hard to believe, given the station is at a traffic circle, that there wasn't some location for MTA to accommodate the required elevators to make subway travel to this part of Central Park or Morningside Park easy for everyone!

My favorite is the Uptown platform's "Minton's Playhouse," the neighborhood jazz place on W. 118th St., known as the birthplace of bebop, that he enjoyed and which still operates today. (Also look forward to checking out Minton's Playhouse Jazz Lounge myself!) The Downtown Platform's mosaic is "The Movers and Shakers," featuring many historic, iconic Harlem figures. Hopefully soon, MTA will install elevators to enable people in wheelchairs, physically challenged, or with a stroller or carriage to access this 116th St. station.

On Caton Ave's end there's a huge park two blocks up called Caton Park w/ a school directly across from it. On the opposite end, church ave., there are stores such as subways, Bobbys department store, dunkin donuts, a t-mobile, Korean vegetables stands along with so many other stores. The neighborhood is very active so you can guarantee police officers on almost every corner.

Great way to stay dry if you work in the area during the winter or the rain storm and have to get from the train station to Path/Brookfield Place, etc. Various exits will lead you to where you need to go, but one should know or have to figure out which exit to take or ask someone. Escalators in the Fulton Center will lead you to certain trains - mid-level is the 4,5 and lower levels are the rest. Follow the signs. The Fulton Center Station also has Dunkin and other eateries where you can purchase snacks and food if you need to grab a snack before you head to/from your destination. Also, refill your Omni card now that Metrocard has been retired, or just tap your credit/debit card to pay.

I mostly go to the front of the platform the J going to Jamaica since the front of the platform is much more bearable. The end of the platform got a lot of smokers. J trains take forever to come compared to the 4 and 5 trains, which come like every second. Sucks that the J trains take forever. Got so much anxiety and impatience waiting in this train station. Also sometimes the train is packed when the previous station is Broad Street, the last stop on the J train. So why is the J train packed with no seats at Fulton?!?

I always feel the configuration somehow could be structured more efficient for passenger. With all that, the station is normally provides ADA compliant accessibility, but not sure what the temporary situation is given there's elevator work underway until early 2026. In Lexington Avenue fare zone Mezzanine to the E,F,M Platform, MTA installed Brooklyn-born Abstract painter Al Held's 2004 "Passing Through," long bright mosaics based on his watercolor works. One wall has flows like yellow ribbons, the opposite wall provides interactive colorful geometric shapes and swirls, intertwined with a 3-D appearance. Each piece seems to accompany your movement through the space. Apparently, this station has Nina Yankowitz's 1989 "Tunnel Vision" with hand-painted ceramic tiles, but I think it's covered up while MTA's doing work.

I'm not sure why we decided "lunch in the Village" was such a great idea but here we are. The station is quite clean (at least the level where we were) and signage was decent. A little loud, perhaps. But clean and well lit for 2pm on a weekday. The station is handicapped accessible, which is nice. There are two levels with tracks (A/C/E on the B2 level, B/D/F/M on the lower B4 level) and two mezzanine levels, one for the fare control and the other is for connecting between platform levels.
